Peace has returned to the small community of Klippan in southern Sweden after a 25-year fired up his chainsaw and chased unsuspecting passers-by down the street last weekend, threatening to kill them.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after a man phoned at 1 o'clock in the morning last Sunday to say he and several others were being pursued down the main street, local newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad reports.

With his chainsaw running, the 25-year-old uttered death threats as he barreled along Storgatan in pursuit of his prey. He also took the opportunity to slash branches off trees in central Klippan, a town of 8,000 people located 90 kilometres north of Malmö.

The chainsaw wielder's would-be victims managed to keep at a safe distance from their aggressor throughout.

Local police dispatched two units and were eventually able to arrest the man and confiscate his chainsaw at an apartment on Storgatan.

"We questioned him and he gave an explanation for his behaviour that I don't wish to elaborate on. He was very drunk," said police spokesman Göran Tolf.

@waybackwhen: Sounds like you really do not know what you are talking about.

Like a friend of mine told me once. He would rather accidently bump into a person that is high on XTC than someone is drunk.

I'm sure that the occupational safety inspectors will be on the case to ensure that he was wearing proper safety equipment, i.e. hearing/eye protection, gloves, work boots.

Will the city be charging him for tree damage or harvesting timber without permits?

Send him to east Texas and stick him in a methamphetamine lab in the piney woods. He'll blend.

Thank god no one was hurt. Rick would say they deserved it. We wouldn't want someone to be able to defend themselves against a nut like this. I am on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale right now so if this guy threatened me he would have 180 grains of lead to deal with. Too bad Chicago (and Illinois) politicians agree with Rick. We all know that the more sophisticated people in places like Chicago, San Fran, and NYC only wish the best for their fellow citizens, and would never do anything to harm them. Not like these crazy hillbilly states where the crime rate is so much higher.

greg in canada,

perhaps it was a stihl? Hence the need to arrest him for lack of loyalty.

mkvgtired,

Or, does Scandanavia needs a right to bear chainsaw constitution ruling. So if any person comes at you with one, you have the means to defend yourself with equal force.
