Minister: Catholic Church should investigate

After a series of reports of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church of Sweden, Bishop Anders Arborelius wants the state to investigate, but the church minister has expressed reluctance, arguing that the church can manage on its own.

"We need an impartial investigation, we can not manage this ourselves," Arborelius told the Svenska Dagbladet daily.

"The government should appoint someone. I will write to them shortly. We need someone with no loyalty to the church to shed light on the issue," the bishop said.

But church minister Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth is reluctant to approve a state examination of allegations that the church hushed up the reports before a formal request is received and is in general sceptical of state involvement.

"If this is not that extensive then I think the church should be able to manage it itself," she told the newspaper.

The Swedish cases that have so far come to light have all passed the statute of limitations. Should more recent allegations emerge then they would be a matter for the police.

"The pope now wants more consistent rules. All cases must be forwarded to Rome as part of the ecclesiastical legal process," said Arborelius, who has recently returned from an audience with the pope on other matters.

Anders Arborelius has written to a Swedish woman who came forward and told of abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest, the Christian website Dagen reports.

"I regret the horrible things you have been subjected to and ask for your forgiveness in the Church's name," he writes and promised to investigate the abuse.

The woman has however been left unimpressed by the communication.

"It is so pitiful, I have no words to describe it. He writes that he regrets what has happened and asked for forgiveness in the name of the church, but doesn't mention a word of my brother's death or that they will conduct an investigation into it," she told Dagen.

According to the woman, who has since emigrated from Sweden, her brother died as a result of negligence at the monastery where she and her siblings lived as children.

"If this is not that extensive then I think the church should be able to manage it itself," she told the newspaper. --Because it has done such a good job of policing itself up to this point around the world.

The Catholic church has forgotten that it must render under Caesar that which is Caesar's -Mathew 22:21. Pedophilia is a crime that is not specifically addressed under Biblical teachings, so this would fall under "Caesar's" authority.

All criminals are equal in the eyes of law and church can't treat them as special cases, religious people must stop using double-standards.

Raping children is extremely bad for society and criminality.

They can serve better if they are married. At least that would not make them think of others properties :P

In Islam

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

"When a man marries, he has fulfilled half of his religion, so let him fear God regarding the remaining half."

`O young people! Whoever among you can support a wife should marry, for that is more modest for the gaze and safer for your private parts.'

What planet are these people living on?

Anyone raping a child should be put down, not discussd, understood or given a chance to hide behind the law.

The catholic church has been raping children worldwide. In every country that the catholic church is operating priests are going to jail for raping children.

As for the church forwarding complaints to the Pope. if that happens arrest the pope as well.

Any government not arresting the pope, when he interferes in legal process of prosecuting a paedophile should also be arrested.

The catholic church has shown (again and again and again) how poorly it can manage itself, from the Inquisition until the present. the pope is so out of touch with reality, one could be forgiven for thinking he is from another planet. His sycophantic inner circle of papal butt kissers are incapable of taking a dump without his permission. The state should investigate the catholic church and - if all goes well - put them into the same danger category as other balmy cults like the scientologists.

There once was a church

that had a moral lurch

coz all the priests were diddling

little choir boys while they were piddling

The problem is the Catholic church hasn't managed to police on is own. No matter where in the world where abuse has occured, the church had a policy of trying to cover it up. We've sent several Catholic clergy to jail here in Canada. Sweden should be doing the same.

The catholic church has no credibility. I wish the media would stop patronizing them.

It is pity that such a controversy is coming up in the Church when so much is needed for the society today. If there are those who cannot live up to celibacy, they must be helped. We should be able to understand that in such a time of "sexual revolution" anyone wil have problems in the matters of sex. But the Church should help them. Just punishing the culprits will not heal the society and the church...

"If there are those who cannot live up to celibacy, they must be helped. "

The best way to help them with celibacy is to admit that it is ridiculous Catholic ideal that has no roots in original christianity teaching, .

Yes, this kind of behaviour, by ANYBODY is inexcusable.

--------------------OK having said that, here is one excuse, inadequte, of course.

We all have our own outlook, framework or, even, frameworld.

Author Saul Bellows said it best in "Mr. Sammlers Planet"

Pulitzer AND Nobel in Literature winner in 1978(?).

or, take the word of Mr. Palmer, who wrote

"Our ability to reject Reality is grossly underestimated!"

It is not that they do not know what they do

It is more like a "temporary insanity", not serious enough,

according to "them" (or "us") to justify treatment for life.

What theyneed is a Love of Truth, they profess and ignore. Sad.
