Princess Madeleine takes time out after split

Princess Madeleine has decided to take a time out from official engagements in order to give her time to deal with her aborted engagement to lawyer Jonas Bergström, the Royal Court in Stockholm has announced.

The Royal Court confirmed to the Aftonbladet daily that the break up from Bergström is the reason why Madeleine cancelled her attendance at Sweden Week in Seattle at the weekend, having to be replaced by her sister Crown Princess Victoria.

"She needs personal time and peace and quiet. Madeleine is not feeling too good," Nina Eldh at the Royal Court told the newspaper.

The court confirmed that the princess has cancelled all engagements up to May 30th, the date for the publication of the marriage banns for Victoria and Daniel Westling.

Madeleine travelled to the USA at the end of April to fulfil a series of engagements and to escape the media glare after revelations over Bergström's alleged dalliance with a Norwegian handball player.

Calls from the palace to leave the Princess in peace as she adjusts to life without her erstwhile fiancé fell on deaf ears however as Scandinavian news teams were joined at Newark Airport by international paparazzi photographers.

But the Princess succeeded in leaving the airport undetected by reporters and photographers after the well-documented turbulence in her relationship with Jonas Bergström culminated in the April 24th announcement that the couple had chosen to go their separate ways.

Princess Madeleine's engagement book was scheduled to keep her in the United States until May 9th, with a lengthy spell at the World Childhood Foundation, an organization founded by her mother Queen Silvia ending with the trip to Seattle.

I guess she could do the same as her sister and pick up a personal trainer at the gym

Here's the deal. Madeleine heard that Tiger and Elin had worked out the details for their divorce. She immediately dumped her boyfriend, flew to America, and disappeared. The next weekend, Tiger missed the cut and didn't play golf. What was he doing? What was Madeleine doing? I've just added two plus two.

"Time Out" from what?

How do you take time out from doing nothing?

First the court claimed she was taking Time Out from Sweden to fly off to New York for her important "work" at the World Childhood Foundation. Ah, so good and noble of her.

But now it seems she's taking time out from even that non-job.

Well this goes to show even beautiful princess can be broken hearted. Of all the princesses on earth I thought Madeline would be the last one to get broken hearted. She looks like a model not an unattractive blue blood. But then her family isn't as royal so not as inbred.

Anyway, I am glad she went to the USA! Its a great place to take a vacation and a lot of Swedes do it. And the fact that a beautiful Swedish princess chooses the USA to take a break is very flattering!

Madeline deserves to find someone who truly loves her. Its good she found this out before her marriage then after. Otherwise she would have been forced to stay in an unhappy marriage with a man who wonders. No relationship is perfect but maybe she can find someone better.

For all you mean spirited people who are mocking her for who she is, it just goes to show the character of your person and how jealous you are of her position. She didn't ask God to make her a princess, she was born into the posiiton and doing the best she can. Grow-up and get a life of your own instead of being bitter over her position. I wish her joy and happiness in the furture and it's better to know now then later what kind of man she would have married. After all, we all suffer broken hearts in our lifetimes, even you and me. We all grow stronger and smarter from it.
11:50 May 12, 2010 by NickM
You're right Sheridan. But I think a lot of people think why should they pay for her to fly to New York first class and stay in 5 star accommodation to help her recover? We'd all like something nice like that when we've got a broken heart but unfortunately, we weren't all born into a publically funded life of luxury.

And no, she didn't choose to be born a Princess. But she could renounce it couldn't she?
11:57 May 12, 2010 by Fishtank
Smart one!
20:58 June 6, 2010 by A common man
As an American I am simply taking this all in.

Much of these posts reflect negativity and resentment of the royal family. I agree with Sheridan. Princess Madeleine could not control the conditions of her birth any more than any one of us could. She is human and feels pain and to celebrate her pain is a debased and corrosive emotion and act. You put yourselves at the bottom of the pile by such attitudes. You don't need the comparative of a royal house to do that for you.

Finialy, to NickM: Do you think that you would enjoy being asked to denounce yourself? Think about it, man.
