Syria's top envoy to Sweden has been expelled and a Swedish politician arrested on suspicion of plotting to kidnap the diplomat's daughter because of a relationship she was having, Sveriges Television (SVT) reported on Tuesday.

Syria's charge d'affaires, who was not named, allegedly wanted to abduct his daughter and take her out of Sweden where she was having a relationship with a young man, SVT reported, citing sources close to the matter.

The diplomat was allegedly helped by an elected Social Democrat politician who was arrested as part of an enquiry into the matter, television said.

Teo Zetterman at the Swedish foreign ministry was unable to confirm to The Local on Wednesday morning whether the diplomat was still in Sweden.

"We don't comment on these types of diplomatic cases at all," he said.

SVT reported that the diplomat had already left the country, while other media said he was still in Sweden.

The Social Democrat politician who has represented Stockholm for several years, was reported by SVT to have been acting as the Syrian diplomat's family adviser.

The politician is currently being detained and the prosecutor will decide on Wednesday whether he should be released.

It amazes me how some goons sell their parents or siblings just to be with a partner.

What about the girl?
11:12 May 12, 2010 by J Jack
...define expelled, every time I was expelled, I just stayed at home and wrote an objection, never actually removed from the country... but that was only petty temporary residence issues... and how silly, wouldn't this imply that the so expelled dipsticklomat would have to take his family, therefore succeeding in ending the love story anyway?..
11:34 May 12, 2010 by glamshek
@nordic

I have been following your comments regarding Taliban in which you say that they are better than Western liberals but unfortunately it is not the case.

Today however you are amazed at what went wrong with that daughter who sold her Father's honour for a weak love affair. But we need to understand that it is mostly the training of parents that is questionable in such cases. Did they properly follow their own culture and religion before they complain about their daughter? I think its better to be honest.
11:45 May 12, 2010 by bbeynch
Why couldn't the social democrat politician be someone with a name like Sixten Josefsson or Eva Nilsson? Who is this social democrat politician anyway? Also why is noone surprised that it would be a social democrat? Why couldn't it be a Moderate or FP, or Centrist? Can someone please put the equation together for me? Thanks.
12:08 May 12, 2010 by Nadeen
Well, I am dead surprised because this diplomat adores his daughter and he offers her everything she asks for. She is so spoiled, and suppose to be of a well- mannered child, but what happens seems to violate all the expectations !!!!

This diplomat is an open minded person, and respects human rights very much. He even does not mind about his children getting married to people from other religions, but definitely not to do something immoral. So maybe he requested that his daughter should behave according to her traditional values and believes, and not according to the concept of morality and freedom of Sweden. The Swedish mates around his daughter wanted to drag her down under the name of liberty and personal freedom, and this does not suit any respectable parents who like to look well after their kids. And this is not surprising as immorality for one nation is considered freedom for another, and this exactly what happened in the case of this Syrian Diplomat.

I very much doubt the allegations that this person would like to kidnap his young daughter because she lives with him, and the rest of her family at the same place. She got her mobile, computer and, on daily basis, she is in touch with her friends, so she is really in a very good position, and that rebuts all the allegations launched against this person.

Does the Sweden government believe that if a Syrian Diplomat was nominated in Sweden, he is not allowed to visit Syria with his family even for a vacation? Is this the freedom that talk about?
12:13 May 12, 2010 by Kanedaa
What an idiot, Who tries to kidnap their own child?

I'm glad he was arrested, Its his child's life and he can't control it and now he learns that the hard way.

All you can do is pass on your guidance and that's it, You do not own your children and you should not try to control them beyond the law.

Morals are installed by our parents and no one else, Swedish morals are fine, its the transnational approach which leads to these problems in the first place.

The old ways are outdated, wrong and fading out so get over it.
12:40 May 12, 2010 by StockholmSam
@Kanedaa

You said, "Morals are installed by our parents and no one else,"

I say, "you are terribly misinformed about how the world works."
13:17 May 12, 2010 by sendia
whats the problem in writing the name of the arrested politician? he is arrested after all. I dont understand this!
13:30 May 12, 2010 by Kanedaa
@Stockholmsam

No I'm not, From a very early age child start to learn how to behave and as they get older the still gather the basic moral values from their parents. Yes some are formed on their own via experience.

To any intelligent and educated person who understands basic psychology its clear how the human mind and behaviour is effected by their upbringings.

Any argument is wrong.
14:20 May 12, 2010 by Nordic Prince
@glamshek #5

You bloody-buffoon, you should be honest to yourself before you argue with people.

I didn't say "sold her Father's honour". I didn't use word "honour" at all.Stop lying!

Go and re-read what I wrote you blind-troll!

I said "It amazes me how some goons sell their parents or siblings just to be with a partner."

It means: It has nothing to do with any religion, race or culture!

I just get shocked and blown away when I hear or read about a goof(like You) willing to leave his/her mother or his/her father just for a relationship. (That is my personal point of view though!).

You said: "it is mostly the training of parents that is questionable in such cases. Did they properly follow their own culture and religion before they complain about their daughter?"

Your aforementioned comment is completely useless and doesn't make any sense!

I believe that Parents' love is unconditional love, and it is builtin inside inside the heart and the soul.

Therefore, don't waste your time pretending that you understand sane people talk. Obviously, you don't.

BTW, You are bad-liar!, Also, I didn't say "Taliban are better than Western liberals" !!!

I said: "There is NO difference between Italy, France, Belgium and Taliban" because they both treat women unequally. Also, I said, Taliban do not lie like Italy, France, Belgium (Your lovely: Western liberals). Taliban never claimed on TV and media that they are democratic or liberals. But your lovely: Western liberals are made of hypocrisy and lies.

P.S. I guess you don't need glasses to read. Elements like you need a stick and dog to guide them!
14:52 May 12, 2010 by StockholmSam
@Kanedaa

First, you said, "Morals are installed by our parents and no one else."

Then, in a separate post, you said, "Yes some are formed on their own via experience."

Can you please make up your mind?

You went on to say, "To any intelligent and educated person who understands basic psychology its clear how the human mind and behaviour is effected by their upbringings."

Please note that a person's upbringing usually involves many factors and influences beyond the parents. This is especially noticeable in orphans and in people whose parents were otherwise incapable of giving normal support to the child's development (ie prison, sickness, addiction, etc)

Finally, you said, "Any argument is wrong."

You are a moron. Argue that.

It is strange that the whole issues took more than it really is. A loving and caring father who tries to protect his daughter from being drawn into a silly fantasy or childish affair of a novice girl who is learning the ABC of the facts of life should be expelled!! What is more bizarre is that this young girl is still living in the family house with her parents and is supported by her father who is an exemplary case of a caring father.

Observing the family values and traditions is expected and the interference of the father is motivated by concern for the daughte's happiness and welfare. Tthe question is how he is going to kidnap her and she is living the family in one house!! Where is the girl? why she has no say in this? Did she complain to the police/ why do not we hear her on TV? i am sure if she is given the chance to speak publicly, she would defend her father and denounce those reports that try to cause harm to her and her family.

Being a diplomat makes the news sensational and the fact that he is

Syrian adds more spices, and so we have a sensational report for sensation media!!

The whole issue does not deserve the fuss and the huss raised and i believe behind the curtain there are undeclared motives!!

The diplomat is a liberal and highly educated person and has served in the diplomatic circles for a long number of years and, unfortunately, some of these reports portray the story as if they were talking about a fanatic narrow minded father!! the police does not and will not care for the good of this DAUGHTER THAN HER OWN FATHER !!
15:22 May 12, 2010 by Just_Kidding
The syrian guy does not have any right to put his daughter in a cage. Maybe he had such a right in Syria, but not here in Sweden.

People who complain about personal freedoms in Sweden should consider immigrating to Iran, Syria or Saudi Arabia where the rules give enough power to parents to control their childern; I know that they don't want to do that. They want to enjoy technology and all the products of freedom and free thinking, but they don't want to pay the price of that. Freedom may lead to mistakes and failures; but this is the price to be paid for other good things that freedom offers.

He wanted to take her out of Sweden then over to some sheep farm in Syria to be raped and murdered by her brothers, cousins, friends, uncle. Not because the pig is a diplomat implies he is a modern 21st century thinker. we have seeing what these animals do to their own. remember Fadime Sahindal?
16:08 May 12, 2010 by RedEagle
@ peropaco

What do you know about Syria you ignorent tw@t.

Go educat yourself about the world outside the farm where you live and then try to be a wise ass.

and what Fadime Sahindal has to do with that....can i by the same logic say that your dady is treating you like Josef Fritzl..thats why you are sick minded
18:06 May 12, 2010 by DamnImmigrant
I might have missed it BUT

HOW OLD IS THIS GIRL?

I would have to assume that if this diplomat was forced to kidnap his daughter - SHE IS AN ADULT! Right?

If she is NOT an adult then he just takes her back to Syria - Right?

Kidnapping is a crime. What was his next step, her death for his honor?

I really think Swedish immigration should do A LOT more educating immigrants that come here!

The FIRST thing that HONOR culture immigrants should be taught is -

Sweden does NOT believe in family honor! - Sweden believes in HONORING THE FAMILY!

Does this woman have the right to decide for herself who she wants to be in a relationship with?
19:56 May 12, 2010 by glamshek
@Nordic

West claims liberalism, while Taliban claim actual Islam. Both are a shame towards that end in their claims. Both have an understanding of these which is only good to them.

Secondly you dalringle rimple, I wonder who told you to come here and leave comments. This is not matching with you, just leave it and start something that needs less brain !
20:25 May 12, 2010 by boby
I saw that some people on here are missled about Syria, so let me help-

Its a retard country, controlled by a dictator. One of the poorests nationes in the world, yet investing heavily in military, and in development of weapons of mass distruction.

It is on the list of countries that host and support terror, actually some of the more notourios terrorists have found refuge in Damaskus.

I think this is it in a nutt shell.
21:56 May 12, 2010 by Nordic Prince
@Abbot #18

"Does this woman have the right to decide for herself who she wants to be in a relationship with? "

BIG YES, She has 112% the RIGHT to be with whoever she wants to be with.

Her family has no right at all to kidnap or force her to do anything.

BUT I feel sorry for the father!

@glamshek #19

1) To correct your broken English "dalringle" : do you mean "dringle" ?

2) "Taliban claim actual Islam"

Can you provide facts about that?

3) "I wonder who told you to come here and leave comments."

I am here to do you a favor and teaching goons like you!

4) "start something that needs less brain !"

It amazes me how some goons (Like You) love to prove that they are proper morons. Do you think commenting here and teaching ignorant-elements like you requires brain :) , you makes it sound like rocket science.

just give it up newyork-väsby, there is no need to hide anymore. you can use your old account again :P
23:32 May 12, 2010 by Herodotus
Good for Sweden. I'm proud of the people who took this decision and of the woman for going to the authorities.
23:35 May 12, 2010 by RedEagle
hahaha @ boby...how old are you?...you are excused if you are not older than 15 and you never read a book in your life,,, you are trying to correct people who are miss led about Syria! ..you are really poor kid...Syria is not poor, just for example check the top ten cotton and olive oil producers in the world and that only an example :) and now we can see who is the retard.

And to everyone who heard about "honor" crimes, and now they think they know a lot about that region and they start to give a great opinions, I just want to say that those crimes are not much than the crimes the parents have here against their children's and they don't represent the society like Josef Fritzl and others doesn't represent Austria and other European countries

Something really shameful here is that everybody wants to give an opinion in things they know nothing about instead of try to ask how things are in reality, since many people who read this page are from different places in the world.

Judging by the comments on this story and the comments on the story about the cartoonist being assaulted in Uppsala amid shouts of "Allahu akhbar! Allahu akhbar!," I must conclude that Sweden and my own country, the United States, have almost nothing in common.

Good.
09:33 May 14, 2010 by peropaco
@RedEagle. Looool. Syria is a country filled with goat and sheep herders and its subservient people are ruled by a chinless; moustached goat. Most of the intelligent people left allepo around 47. If Syria's claim to fame is its production of olive oil and cotton then I feel sorry for them. The guy was taking his daughter to be raped by every shoeless peasant in the goat village and be murdered; fullstop. Puss puss

@nordic prince

You understand that if you stay in Sweden your children or your bon bon will be Swedish girls will have sex with whoever they want regardless of what their male relatives think and they will think your views on the subject backward. If you want to know what they will think of you read infidel ..

BTW:

The ideas of honor killing and forced marriage are rooted in the tribal cultures of the middle east not Islam ( which is just another religion roughly based upon Judism Zoroastrianism.)

18:58 May 18, 2010 by Dr Taher
I think the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs should have called this diplomat and heard him before taking its hasty decision!! The facts of the story are different from what has been broadcast and he has the right to answer these allegations which are false and unfounded.

I am afraid the whole thing is manufactured out of prejudice and produced by some racists who feel ecstasy to blackmail a VIP Arab diplomat!! This is no more than one sided story fabricated by some Anti Arab reporters and published by those who like hot spicy tales!! Imagine how silly it sounds when they say "KIDNAP" !! and who the father wants to kidnap his daughter who is living in his own house!! How shallow and how naive. It is definitely a campaign which has hidden motives. Where is the daughter? She has been kidnapped by the Swedish police from her own house (parents house) and taken away to an unknown place!!

Who is kidnapper here?

If the girl appears on TV and tells her story to us then we will know the truth of the matter!!
