Chef hurls meat cleaver at fleeing thief

A chef at a Stockholm restaurant rushed out of his kitchen on Thursday afternoon and threw a meat cleaver at a departing thief as his restaurant was robbed for the second time in a week.

The robbery took place at 2pm at a restaurant in Hässelby Villastad in west Stockholm. Two masked robbers held staff at knifepoint and forced them to hand over all the cash in the till.

"Apparently the chef's meat cleaver struck one of the robbers in the back, but they were able to disappear from the scene. The same restaurant was robbed a week ago and I guess the staff were just tired of it," said police spokeswoman Christina Johansson.

Police had not made any arrests in the case by late on Thursday afternoon.

The Return of the Swedish Chef, was he wearing a Viking Horn Hat?

Precious, this is a gem

I am a Chef and have to say we have more weapons at hand and more knife skills than Rambo so one would have to be a complete and utter moron to annoy us ,on top of the pressure we endure .

Lucky for him the cleaver missed and the chef never went for his Japanese garnishing tools ,painful but artistic !

I sympathize with him for his loss but it can end up worse for him if he kill anyone through blind rage.

We all have a lesson to learn, we need to take control of that time gap between action and reaction. Then we won't act rashly.

Agree with Voiceofreason point of view

It was a China resturant and the chef was Chinese not Swedish :-) It maybe just a feeling, but isnt it almost always chinese chefs that go crazy and try to kill robbers?

I am missing something here! where is the bit about the police arresting the chef for assault (seeing as they have no hope of catching the thieves) as per normal Swedish practice maybe even they are slipping !

No doubt the evil chef will get life behind bars for trying to protect his workplace whilst the poor hard done-by thieves will receive specialist trauma counselling and adequate compensation.

Go chef! This story made me smile. A perfect example why you shouldn't mess with chefs!
10:05 May 14, 2010 by Da Goat
shame it does not say if the cleaver was successful or not is there a thieving mongrel with a large gash in his back on the loose did anyone think to ask around if someone has had an accident and required large suture job to nether regions? maybe he just has a nice bruise where the handle hit, I guess that would be Chinese roulette reaching the right distance where you have the 1-3 chance of getting cut, I guess they will not try robbing that chef again (third time unlucky)!

@voiceofreason.

Your obviously a do-gooder, & one of the reasons there is so much crime in the world, you & your oh don't hurt them, they must be rehabilitated friends

Hang the thieving b'stards, cut off their hands, burn their eyes out give a taste of what they'd get in the middle (& far) east. Back to old real values & get rid of all the rapists, murderers, peodophiles etc.

How excellent.

Too bad he missed. It won't stop until you decide it should stop. Quit coddling the bad guys and stand up and be men.

@flintis

voiceofreason was only advising caution, an innocent bystander could have been hurt or killed.

You suggestions indicate a pathetic person with a strong tendency toward violence. You should stop playing those video games, they are delusional and bad for your health

Pity the chefs name wasn't Geronimo.

The thief would have probably staggered out the door with only the cleaver handle protruding from his skull.

Hope he brushes up on his throwing skills ready for the next ones.

Have to agree with jack sprat, viking skills seem to be on the decline.
