New cancer medicine starves tumours

Swedish researchers have developed a new cancer DNA vaccine which restricts the supply of blood to tumours.

The research results, published in the medical journal Oncogene, indicate success in delaying the growth of breast cancer tumours in mice, Karolinska Institute writes in a statement.

"Our hope is that in the future this vaccine can be used to prevent relapses of breast cancer after surgery," said Kristian Pietras, who led the study at the institute, in the statement.

If a cancer tumour is to become larger than a few millimetres it must be able to stimulate the formation of new blood vessels, in order to secure the supply of oxygen and nutrients.

"Drugs that prevent the growth of blood vessels are thus a potential treatment alternative for tumours," Pietras said.

The blocking of the Delta-like ligand 4 (DLL4) protein there is a large increase in the formation of new, but non-functional, blood vessels, and this leads to the tumour growing more slowly.

According to the study the vaccine did not affect the animal's ability to heal and it left no side-effects. The researchers hope that the vaccine could be used to treat other cancers.

"We have worked with breast cancer tumours since they often express high levels of DLL4, while normal breast tissue does not. We hope that it will be possible to use this vaccine to prevent recurrence of breast cancer after surgical treatment," Kristian Pietras said.

This sounds to be a very good news.

However, several cancer cures, mainly from Mother Nature have been already discovered and successfully in use - it is really fascinating to see how researchers keep ignoring them...

But of course, that has its good reason. It's a bit dirty what for example Cancerfonden is doing: http://www.thelocal.se/blogs/stuckinstockholm/2010/04/09/cancer-research-forward-or-backward

Only a few cancers are treatable and even then patients generally an extension of their life expectancy of a few years. There is a need for new treatments.

The idea the Mother Nature has provided cures that are being ignored by the medical establishment is dangerous ill informed nonsense.

Engagebrain, I am also skeptical of processed "holistic" or "natural" cures for diseases found at the health food store or through so-called "natural healers," though I believe nature has a way to fight anything. That said, you should check out this video...

It is pretty interesting and sort of reinforces what AndreaGerak was getting at.

The best way to avoid cancer is prevention. Mother Nature does indeed provide many "superfoods" that have excellent cancer prevention properties. Eat more vegetables, whole grains and fruits...limit meat, processed foods and, of course, tobacco.

"The idea the Mother Nature has provided cures that are being ignored by the medical establishment is dangerous ill informed nonsense."

Mother nature has provided us with all the quarks, the gluons, the protons, the neutrons, the electrons, and the atom. So everything which is made up of sub atomic particles (this includes DNA, medicine and radiation) which is everything, IS natural and had been provided to us by the universe, hence by mother nature. We are just learning to harness the power of particles.

Everything is natural... eller?

Great news. I hope someday the pink ribbons will be museum curios.

Heard that there have been advances in cures for Melanomas (30 per cent cure rate) and lung cancer(depending on a genetic indicator). Maybe all of the money spent on research is beginning to pay off.

Tell me what happened to the BREASTMILK cure from 1999 Sweden study? Breastmilk ingested and reacting with the stomach acids oleic acid? Cleveland Clinic in US is now studying coming up with a vaccine when it was proven if ingested to kill all breast cancer cells? I guess big money is needed from Mother Nature's cures to be formally exposed. You sure cannot find much about it on the internet. See HAMLET study or human alpha-lactalbumin.
