Victoria to keep her wealth after divorce

Prince Daniel may have gotten the princess and the castle, but he would not receive a princely settlement if he and Crown Princess Victoria divorced, a premarital agreement submitted to Solna District Court has reveal.

The royal possessions would be protected if Prince Daniel and Princess Victoria divorce, according to the couple's prenuptial agreement. The court filing released on Monday states that only the couple's jointly purchased furniture and household items would be divided if they divorced.

The statement was signed by both the prince and the crown princess and a court auditor and court secretary at Stockholm Palace on June 7th, just 12 days before their wedding, and submitted in Solna, where their marriage is registered.

According to the statement, everything that the couple owned before the marriage and everything that they subsequently inherit, receive as gifts or earnings through work while they are married would remain separate property in the event of a divorce.

Only items purchased for their home would be considered in the division of property.

The premarital settlement also makes clear that "all proceeds of the private property will remain separate." For example, dividends on shares from Victoria's portfolio securities would not count as property held jointly by husband and wife.

According to Magnus Brogren, family law lawyer at Familjens jurist in Gothenburg, the document Victoria and Daniel have signed is a fairly common form of a premarital agreement, SvD.se reported.

"I think it is wise that they have written one up," he told SvD.se. "One can imagine that Victoria owns or will inherit things that are strongly associated with her office. Through their marriage, there cannot be debate about such things."

Following the marriage, Daniel can no longer work at the gym he built up. This means that Daniel has few opportunities to earn an income and collect a pension while he is married to Victoria, SvD.se added.

"It seems as if he could be in a bad situation if they divorce, especially after a long marriage," Brogren told SvD.se. "However, it may be that he has an agreement to get an allownace from the court, one that has not been made public. I hope that Daniel has advisers who have explained all this to him."

Brogren cited the divorces in the British royal family, especially Princess Diana's, which kept her far from destitute after she and Prince Charles went their separate ways.

Brogren added Daniel would also inherit Victoria's estate if she dies before him while they are still married unless they have written a will that says otherwise.

"Such a document would not be made public," Brogren told SvD.se.

I do not like the title of this article: Victoria To Keep Her Wealth After Divorce.

What ever happened to good taste and dignity ?

They just got married, and the Local prints something like that.

In any event, whatever that they signed is their personal business. He is a big boy now and he knows exactly what he signs. He as well would not have to worry about a roof or the next meal were things to sour between them, yet raising that issue at this point is simply bad taste and form.

Show some respect.

I think that any person with money or property would be wise to protect their assets prior to marrying.

@saab - Tiger did have a pre-nup; however, he wisely he voided the stipulated amount to compensate his wife for his disgusting behaviour. If he can give his mistress $10 million, he can more than afford to financially recompense his wife for her world-wide humiliation.

@Waffen...come on now, just face it already. Get real man! You might wanna check out the stats and see the divorce rate in this country. Why shy away from something which could very well happen in the near future. I see this article as simply being realistic. Nobody wishes for divorce, but its not out of the question. It has happened before (and yes! even with royals) and can happen again.

@Waffen. The fact that they signed a pre-nup at all should answer your question sufficiently enough.

Furthermore I doubt whether TL, or any other news source for that reason will actually cause their divorce, regardless of what is written.

@saab. I agree with you. Tiger sucks!! The blonde has just taken him to the casino..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

People with ancestral wealth know how to protect their wealth. Tiger is a self made billionaire. He does not have that history, and I do not think it matters.

In the end, it is his children who will inherit their mother's wealth when she dies.

I do not like the title this article, why should it be that the princess would keep her properties after or incase of future divorce? dose it mean that they man dose not have much resources before getting married to princess or is he interested in the princess resources instead of natural love?

I think that headline is eronious, what do you think?
14:11 July 8, 2010 by Tutu
The princess should not have been be allowed to do that. Afterall Daniel an enterpreneour was forced to give up his business empire to marry the princess. IT SOUNDS UNFAIR TO ME

when is a gym a everyday he gets to live at haga palace should be a plus for him ,ON TAX PAYERS EXPENCE but i digress they could never take away hes titles speially if they have children together . the bernadotte line the throne will be finished here after known as WESTLING does not have the same ring to it does it?

This article title is totally without taste, where are good manners and respect?? I totally agree with Waffen's feelings!!

The blessings of true love and the hope for the future of this newly married couple would be more appropriate at this time! Instead, the article could have woven the information into the ending of the article..
