Liberals slam Left Party for dictatorship aid

Liberal Party MP and foreign affairs spokesperson Fredrik Malm has accused the Left Party of funneling millions of kronor in development aid to leftist authoritarian and totalitarian regimes and causes around the world from 2005 to 2009.

In an editorial in the Dagens Nyheter daily on Monday, Malm cited the Partido Comunista Colombiano, a non-reformed Marxist-Leninist party in Colombia, as well as Laban ng Masa, an alliance of revolutionary groups on the far left in the Philippines, as recipients of financing through the Left's international forum (Vänsterns internationella forum - VIF) and called on Lars Ohly to explain why the party supports dictatorships.

"Voters have the right to be informed about what happens to Swedish aid if the Left Party sits in a red-green government after the election," wrote Malm. "What a party does in opposition is of course what it is also prepared to do in a majority with much greater resources and political influence."

Each party has a parliamentary aid organisation that receives annual support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete, SIDA) for development cooperation. The total annual budget is 75 million kronor.

According to Malm, the Left Party is sponsoring a new political party formed by Laban ng Masa that supports an armed communist rebellion, PLM, with 640,000 kronor in 2009-2010.

Furthermore, at a conference in Manila in 2007 funded by VIF with Swedish tax revenue, seven leading Left Party members were on the guest list, as well as Cuba's ambassador to the Philippines and representatives from Hugo Chávez's regime in Venezuela.

Malm also accused the Left Party of "plowing" 150,000 kronor of Swedish tax money into the current dictatorship in Vietnam for nine months in 2007. In addition, the Left Party's international collaborations have a common thread: the Chávez regime in Venezuela.

VIF has planned Venezuelan lecture tours, sponsored think tank that have published writings on Chávez's revolution and paid for trips for Chávez supporters. In 2005, the party organised a conference in Caracas in which Ohly participated.

Swedes tax money is used to sponsor terrorism.... what is new in this I do not know. Swedes tax money is used to murder Israeli children since the 1970.

I just wish the Swedes admit it, for the world to see. The peace loving nation, probably one of the biggest terrorist supporter in the world.

Indeed. Each year, hundreds of millions of Kronors is sent in large suitcase to Hamas. Anyone with a brain knows Sweden is a peace loving nation.

Swedish terrorism money, is better spent in Sweden or EU.

Terrorist states and political crazy states should be shunned, not supported.

I think improving ports, raillinks and air transport are better way to spend this money in Sweden.

High speed rail links from Norrland to Skåne would be good as would be links from Oslo to Åland, Oslo to Malmö and Stockholm to Malmö.

Improved deep water ports for exports would be brilliant.

Sverige first. EU second. Rest of the world if there is anything to spare.

Why exporting murder world wide? Sweden's left would not appreciate it if Columbia, Israel and the Philipines sent some Grenades, Money and Assault Rifles to the Right in Sweden. By the way Chavez did not have a Revolution he was elected and then used Marxism as his excuse to seize power as Dictator for Life.

In Nortehrn Ireland the majority voted for an end to hostilities and a peace process. It has been far from perfect, to put it mildly, but it is getting there.

In Sweden some people openly fundraise to help extremists break the peace process. See http://www.irlandinformation.se/ They are a cover group for theReal Irish Republican Army (RIRA), who took part in the omagh bombing which killed 29 people.

The same group engages in drug dealing, trafficking of women to use them as prostitutes and racketeering.

I have got to know quite a few people in SFI from various countries. Quite often the subject comes up of why groups which they fled from and got refugee status in Sweden to escape from are freely operating in Sweden when we have a private conversation.

These are just some of the terrorist fronts, operating openly and freely in Sweden.

Al-Barakaat (Al-Qaida front)

Al Aqsa Spannmål Stiftelse/Sanabil al-Aqsa (Hamas front)

@ Wenddiver,

Let the truth be spoken.

I am not a fan of Chavez.. Chavez was democratically elected twice, with a big majority in parliment. President Carter, who along side the EU, had supervised the election and had said that it is one of the cleanest, and most open election. EU had also confirmed it. I trust them.

I think you have failed to separate misinformation from facts. Like you, President Bush had called Chavez a dictator, even though he came to power in a dubious manner, and had behaved like a dictator during his terms office.

If you read one of the articles of today's local news the number of widows in Iraq is one million - he is acountable for it together with a few others. These statistics should speak for themselves who is the cruelest/imperilalist elite rulers in the world are? It is the US that the world should fear just like our forefathers did towards Hiler Germany. A tinny country like Venezuela whose state power does not extend beyound its major city does not count in world politics. The only exception to this rule is when they are invaded or violated, i.e., like the CIA attempt to oust Chavez and bring back a dictatorship to that country again. We need to focus on what matters! Absent this the US might stir WWIII.
