Feminist cash burning provokes backlash

The Feminist Initiative's (Feministiskt Initiativ - Fi) controversial burning of 100,000 kronor ($13,000) in Visby on Tuesday in a demonstration for equal pay between the sexes has come in for criticism, from allies and opponents alike.

Fi party leader Gudrun Schyman's has claimed that the huge interest generated by the carefully orchestrated PR coup justifies the means and that the move has generated widespread discussion over the issue of discriminatory pay.

"I think it is very positive that this political issue has come high up on the political agenda," said Schyman, according to several media sources.

Moderate Party press secretary Per Schlingmann was among those who voiced criticism of the stunt on Tuesday.

"Why did she do it? It seems baffling and irresponsible," he said.

Schlingmann argued that the move seemed inappropriate in the midst of a recession.

"In a country with serious societal problems where there are people who are badly off this sends a signal to those that one has a different view of the value of money," he said arguing that Fi should have used the money to show what the party wants to achieve.

Social Democrat party spokesperson, Ibrahim Baylan, was however more conciliatory.

"I have no view whatsoever. Gudrun Schyman can herself stand for what she does," he said.

Schyman has expressed understanding over some of the outrage directed at the party over the high-profile move but argues that the issue itself is more of a scandal.

"When the first feelings of outrage have eased, when the reflection is made over how much money that women miss out on in pay, then I think that many will be outraged over the issue," Schyman said.

"I can understand that many are outraged by this. Many will say that there are plenty of worthy causes to spend this money on. But we are not a charity, we are a political party," said Schyman to the Expressen daily.

While criticism from Fi's political opponents is perhaps to be expected with only two months to go before the general election, former spokesperson Devrim Mavi, editor-in-chief of Arena magazine, has also voiced concern over the publicity surrounding the event.

"It feels a little offputting," Mavi told the newspaper and questioned whether if burning the cash had proved better PR for the firm which funded it than for the party itself.

At the same time Mavri argued that it is positive that the issue comes to the fore.

"This is a very important issue and there are no other parties which have taken it up other than Fi," she told Expressen.

Therése Olsson at media analysis firm Retriever is among those who have however declared the Feminist Initiative's manouver a success arguing that it completely eclipsed the Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) appointed day during the Almedalen political week.

"She completely swept the floor with him (party leader Jan Björklund)," Olsson said pointing out that Fi's demonstration featured eight times on radio and television, and was named 64 times in internet articles, and in 164 blog posts on Tuesday.

Some PR experts argued that not all publicity is good publicity and Schyman has conceded that the move could be construed as a desperate measure, but she added that the situation demands desperate measures.

"It is a democratic scandal that we have a society that systematically, decade after decade, discriminates," Schyman said as the last of the 100,000 kronor donation went up in smoke.

Ignorance is bliss.

Burning money is not a loss to the economy of Sweden like the critics seem to claim or lament. The state regularly burns old notes and print the equivalent amount to replace them. The state also prints some amount of money from time to time to replace those lost in fire, hoarding and the like. The burning of money by the feminist party is a loss to the party while it is an increase in income to the state, however insignificant the amount might be.

To put the argument differently, the "fanfare," of transferring of money, by burning money, to government account, is a demonstration of her confidence in the government, which she ardently wants to criticize.

And so, with sad inevitability, Gudrun learns that not all publicity is good publicity, and that disgusting the electorate is not necessarily the best way to explain policies.

Tomorrow she's going to strangle a puppy, and on Friday she's going to eat a worm sandwich.

What do the other parties have to say? Who cares? Bring on Gudrun and her circus.

Great. I'm all for equality in the workplace and all that, but Feminism like this has always puzzled me.

What if they were to gain more power in the government? What would happen to a budget surplus, would they burn that too? And if there's a deficit, what else would they try to burn??

"We are not a charity, we are a political party". Doesn't that mean they have to show some measure of maturity, and also try to be appealing to potential voters, female and male alike? Not all publicity will get you votes, it may even lose you some.

Burning money only shows me that Feminists simply cannot be trusted with money and power in Government.

What an idiot she is, with the money she burned, she could have donated it to children's charities that feed the poor in 3rd world countries. But no, with these groups its about the result damn the lives lost or what not.

As with the Flotilla, after 9 people died. The elader of the Free Palestine group who was on board said without a hint of sadness "we regret that some lives were lost" and then you could see her smile "We are glad that it shows how Dangerous Israel is and brought it into the international spotlight this problem!" WHo cares if people died, I get to be on TELEVISION!!!!"

The best comment came from the paper in Ystad. The paper asks itself why she gets so much publicity now, since shejhas done nothing else but burn other people's money all her life.

Still, I hope she gets into the Riksdag, otherwise she might become a councillor in my kommun. We've got enough nutters already.

I am very curious about where she got the money in the first place....one can imagine the conversation with her partner at dinner...

Gudrun: Darling, just to let you know that I burned SEK 100,000 today

Partner: What! What the ¤%&# did you burn it on!

Gudrun: No, I mean I burned it

Partner: Burned as, like, with fire...

Gudrun: Yes, I set it alight with some tändvättska and a packet of matches

Partner: What the ¤#%& possessed you to do this!

Gudrun: Well I wanted to make a statement about wage discrimination on the

basis of gender

Partner: But you earn loads more than me and yuo don't see me burning my money at the bottom of the garden...and anyway, we were going to use it to pay for little Emily to study at Harvard one day.

Gudrun: I know, but it is the principle that counts!

Partner: Well I bloody well am not going to sleep with yuo tonight -on principle!

I agree that men and women should get equal payment fot theyr jobs, but this women is an idiot. I wouldn't vote for a party like this. Try to imagine what she could do if she would get a full control in parliament...

The woman is a liar and manipulator.

The are several reasons why women earn a lower income than men.

For instance;

Women prefer jobs in the public sector, as opposed to men who more often work in the private sector.

Public jobs, on average, has lower pay, but compensatory benefits; a shorter work week, more job security and higher pension schemes.

On average women are more risk averse, this is a psychological constant, and they therefore prefer working in the public sector.

Women are still on average less educated(although this is rapidly changing), and therefore get lower pay.

There are several other explanations which could be listed, which reasonably explain the wage differential.

Why do the feminists never mention these very reasonable and logical explanations, but always postulate its due to "discrimination"?

Because they are just working towards fulfilling their own selfish needs, using lies and marxist inspired manipulation to reach their egalitarian/totalitarian goals.

This money burning b%tch is a perfect example of this.
