Swedish women equate jogging with sex: survey

Jogging is more important than a slew of other social activities, and is as important as sex and time with the family, according to a new survey of Swedish women by iFORM lifestyle magazine.

Shopping, having coffee with friends, watching television and calling your mum are all willingly sacrificed for a trot around the block, the magazine writes.

iFORM editor-in-chief Karen Lyager Horve explains that the popularity of jogging can be explained in the activity's rapid results.

"Jogging is something of a panacea, in a relatively short period of time you can boost your well-being by running yourself to a healthy weight, less stress and more happiness," she said.

Indeed, according to the survey of 1,774 women between the ages of 15-60, jogging is equal only to sex and time spent with the family. A third of the women replied that pounding the streets was in fact preferable to exercise between the sheets.

The survey shows that the only task unquestioningly more important than jogging is work.

The majority of women in the survey responded that they run three times per week, with an average distance of around 5 kilometres, although many are becoming more ambitious with almost a third dreaming of running a half-marathon.

For the modern Swedish woman a pair of worn-in trainers and an old t-shirt is not sufficient attire to launch forth, with MP3 players, pulse meters and mobile phones typical accompaniments on their quest for better health, the survey shows.

I think the majority of women in this survey were having what is called a "laugh". They were "pulling your plonker, mate". Good on them I say.

How do you put that in Swedish?
07:54 July 14, 2010 by karex
I don't think that jogging is exclusive here. Any physical exercise carried over a regular schedule will become addicitive. The reason why joggin has become so popular I suspect is because unlike joining a fitness club, jogging costs next to nothing.

I will pass on Swedish women. Yes they look good when young but you can have their strange ways. Swedish women are too weird and controlling for me.
07:10 July 15, 2010 by Rebel
Problem is, a lot of Swedish women skip jogging and sex once they get married.
10:33 July 15, 2010 by hjoian
as usual, what you are seen to be running with ie,mp3/phone etc, is deemed to be important. For those that dont know, running with a "free" mind and no distractions is a better way to go. .......of course that would not be the swedish way as you cannot show off your latest heart monitor gizmo....FREAKS!

I'd rather have sex, least I wont get knackered knees from it by the time I'm 40..

Oh terrible, that explains why it's so hard to find a sex partner on dreamy Stockholm nights, they are on jogging!

I'm with you Rogue, I'd much prefer to get my exercise in the bedroom :)

How cold-hearted is it, preferring jogging to sex? Or is it just that Swedish men are so bad at it?
00:41 July 17, 2010 by LeoKinmann
I find it much easier to get laid in other countries than in Sweden. The Swedish women may look beautiful, if you are up for dyed-blonds with some bitchy attitude and put up with their ways. There is definitely something wrong with the Swedish men's emasculated behavior.

There is nothing wrong with men, I'm not a Swede and I had friends from different parts of EU, Swedish womwn are well educated and friendly, but it's maybe a matter of over-educaion that has made them so conservative to lie in double bed on regular basis. A forcible period (maybe months) of not having sex makes them then to pick up a random perhaps phisicaly proven to get a shot of sex, and the cycle repeats again, I see frustrated men,
