Honour killing brother gives account of murder

The brother of a man convicted of a so-called honour killing in Högsby, southern Sweden in 2005, has told social workers more about who actually committed the murder.

Only one person was ever convicted of the murder of 20-year-old Abbas Rezai, who was in a relationship with the murderer’s sister. Both the district court and the appeal court ruled that the convicted man could not have committed the crime alone.

The 15-year-old brother of the man convicted is reported by several newspapers to have been taken into state care after claiming to have felt threatened by his family, and has told social workers exactly how his sister’s boyfriend was murdered.

The boy’s older brother has now served his four year sentence in a youth detention centre. He is due to be deported, but the deportation to Afghanistan has been put on hold while he seeks a pardon from the Supreme Court.

The victim was murdered using hot oil, knives and blunt instruments. The Court of Appeal classed the crime as an honour killing.

4 years for a murder with knives and hot oil ? i hope im wrong
19:53 July 13, 2010 by Kevin Harris
Can somebody please come up with a better description than the misnomer "honour killing".

Several people surprising their victim, binding him, and torturing him to death doesn't sound very honourable to me. More like a disgusting bunch of cowards, who well deserve their time in Hell when they get there.
20:56 July 13, 2010 by calebian22
Honor has a different definition in that part of the world, but that would be so very ethnocentric of me. I must be a bigot since I find it revolting and barbaric.
23:31 July 13, 2010 by wenddiver
@Calebian22- I must be a bigot too, because I find it cowadly, barbaric and revloting. Four years is a ridiculously short amount of time for a murder.
00:47 July 14, 2010 by Swedesmith
I must also be a bigot, because I say deport him as soon as possible.
04:40 July 14, 2010 by Nachos
Yeah, I'm definitely a bigot and 'racist' too since I find this disgusting and see no place for it in any civilized society.

What is not nearly as appalling is the short sentence for the murder considering this is the Swedish judicial system which, as everyone knows, is an utter disgrace.

Remember your a normal human of a civil society...

That is why open borders dont and NEVER will work.

I call this getting away with murder, and where else on earth but in Sweden, is this possible. Four years for murder!!!!! Why am i not suprised again? Because its Sweden......Unbelievable!! and did i hear the mention of pardon? Wow...Bravo Sweden!!
08:35 July 14, 2010 by janswed
it is just as bad in canada ,lately there have been several so called honor killings ,but they have never involved a male victim always females .\and as far as dumping on the swedish legal system the canadian one is no better try not to offend the sensitivites of islam.
08:54 July 14, 2010 by Rey Stockholm
I dont believe the comments of janswed. "dont offend the sensitivities of Islam " A gírl has been murdered in cold blood.

When will I see an article from a member of the muslim community condemning and apologising for these types of actions from what I assume is extremists in their own community.
11:26 July 14, 2010 by Twiceshy
It's allways the same in hole europe. Here in germany wie call such crime as "ehrenmord". And the mildest punishment is the same as in sweden. Hot oil, massive beating and finale cuting the neck with a nife!! And only 4 Jears, unbelievable, but standart when the morders are member of the "religion of peace". That sucks!
14:12 July 14, 2010 by wolverine2k
Weirdos. I say it again.. Pack them all up and deport them either to the desert or to the moon.
15:07 July 14, 2010 by Torontonian
"The Court of Appeal classed the crime as an honour killing."

Good for you Sweden! Even a cold-blood murdered is now "re-branded" 1. "honour" 2. "killing".... to top it all...4 years...

@calebian22: "Honor has a different definition in that part of the world, but that would be so very ethnocentric of me. I must be a bigot since I find it revolting and barbaric. "

Cool your jets. Honor has the same definition "in that part of the world" (I come from there). Crazy is crazy. People kill each other everywhere. What's different there is the concept of individual freedoms and gender equality. And no, you are not a bigot for finding it revolting and barbaric.

Anyone would agree that it is indeed revolting and barbaric. Even "in that part of the world". It's absurd to think that they missed the Thou Shallt Not Kill in the last Abrahamic religion. Absurd! This is some pagan pre-Islamic customs.

If I understood everyone correctly, the sentence would have been heavier if he was not...from "that part of the world"? If so, this discrimination must cease. Else there will be a growing feeling of victimization. See...myths are already propagating. Robert Spencer's business is booming...

I have seen statistic diagrams showing how big the difference is between the punishments by law and what the Swedish voters would have expected.

Unbelievably the voters of ALL political parties consider the current prison terms to be far too leanient. (Of course the lefties were slightly less upset than the supporters of Moderaterna, but the voters of all parties stand for a clearly harsher policy than any of the political parties.)

The question arises: How is it possible that the Riksdag does nothing against this discrepancy between the law and what the voters expect? Or, alternatively: How is it possible that the voters support these parties?

This is why Muslims need to go back to the middle east. We are very different people than these socially backward people.

Go back, we don't want you.

@locaxy #14

Blame it on the pagan pre-islamic thing now! Aren't you sick and tired of saying lies or as maha-mad instructed, you will keep on using "Taquiya" till you have the powers to go on a full scale mass murder/mass conversion era.

Wake up beard. maha-mad killed all the pagans and everybody living in arabia and surrounding regions. Read the hadiths, they are made by your own beards. If it wouldn't have been for the oil today and for the innocence of people of the yester years, your ghetto would all be extinct.

Well well guys....I am a muslim and come from Pakistan where so called honor killing is at its worst. Let me tell you that Islam strictly prohibits the honor killing or killing of anyone honor or non honor on the basis of religion, color, creed or political views. This honor killing has its roots in the afghan Culture and also has spread to neighboring countries like Pakistan, Iran, and Central asian states...Now commenting on the wrong doing of one individual of a specific group (i.e. Muslims) does not give you a right to snub the teachings of one of the biggest religions in the world....

The local has become more of a place to spread hatred against muslims and groups and this is done by giving a chance to people to say anything they want against anyone in the name of fake freedom of speech...

I wonder of the racism is at the heart of this online daily which usually reports incomplete, wrongful facts and also spreads hatred...this online daily even does not spare the very gentle and noble swedish royalty...people've been humiliating the swedish royals on this bloody online daily's comments section...
14:31 July 15, 2010 by DamnImmigrant
This was a PREMEDITATED (1st degree) TORTURE KILLING!

That right there says LIFE in prison! Why only 4 Years?

Declaring it an honor killing should be seen as a HATE CRIME which should only ADD to the sentence.

"deportation to Afghanistan has been put on hold while he seeks a pardon from the Supreme Court" - is this a real possibility?

@wolverine2k - Most telling is that it was islam's PROFIT himself that personally took part in TORTURE KILLINGS!
14:46 July 15, 2010 by Uncle
shoaibach - seriously? you do not see tendencies? It is true that most muslims are not violent at all, however how do you explain the fact that a majority of current and recent violent acts involved muslims? How come women have a half slave status in sharia countries? How come the impact of the christians, buddhiss and hindus on the crime rate in Europe is not as massive as that of muslim guests?

I mean, even compare the violence levels per capita between Lebanese and Syrian christians and muslims (this is to rebuff the ridiculous racism blames).

Colonialism? Far east was also colonized, but buddhists are not nearly as violent. NO ONE is nearly as violent in the name of his religion. Native americans were not just colonized, but actually cleansed in Latin America and still they are not nearly as violent!

Muslims factually prove that there is no chance for a long term peaceful living in an environment that is comprised of other religions also (note - long term).

Now I agree that the religion does not harm people. People harm people. But how come it is so easy to interpret the Quran in any way that one just wishes? Not just interpret, but also ACT! Point at group of people that are not on medication that actually murder in the name of the old testament or the Bible these days? That RULE their countries on pre-medieval laws? Crusades are a bit out of fashion in the last 700 years.

It is not about racism. It is about these cases that scare people. It is like white males between 25-45 with used cars and quiet approach scare the hell out of female hitchhikers in the US.

There is no way one can be rational about it, until it is proven STATISTICALLY that muslims bring love, peace, lower crime, scientific advances and progressive social views. Can you prove it now? No? Come back when you have it.
05:54 July 16, 2010 by saab
Where are our friends like Open Minded, Audrian, Peterssen? Cmon, guys, I want to hear how these were justified killings and that we in the West are a bunch of Jew influenced Christian crybabies who support the murderers of the Palestinians? Their absence is deafening! I can't stand it!
07:45 July 16, 2010 by Uncle
saab - it is a limitation of the freedom of the muslims to boil their sisters in oil! How dare you to claim that you are democratic, if it is not allowed to show that dirty female the true ways of islam?

Next year they will be an official demand by muslims to install an half a ton oil boiling pot in the middle of stockholm to purge the unfaithful and any refusal will be seen as suppression of freedom of religion and traditions.

Hope I replaced open minded well...
