A 30-year-old woman has been jailed for ten years for persuading her husband to murder his own three-year-old daughter.

The little girl was killed by her father in a forest near the town of Värnamo seven years ago. He initially claimed that she drowned, but a postmortem found that her back had been broken.

The father, then 24, pleaded not guilty to the murder, but was convicted and sent to a secure psychiatric hospital, where he remains today.

Police suspected at the time that the girl’s stepmother was involved in the killing, but she was never charged due to lack of evidence. The case was reopened in the spring, however, after the father claimed that his wife ordered him to kill his daughter. The woman allegedly believed that her stepdaughter was hampering her relationship with her husband.

According to court documents, the woman had pushed her husband consistently over a one year period to kill his daughter. Jönköping District Court said the father "would never have killed his daughter if [his wife] hadn't challenged him to do so."

The woman was found guilty of solicitation to murder. The court's sentence of ten years was less than the prosecution had wanted - they had demanded she serve life behind bars. She was also ordered to pay almost 200,000 kronor in damages to the girl's mother.

She has a previous conviction for serious assault, for which she was jailed for 18 months in 2008.

The woman has consistently contested the charges against her. Her lawyer, Leif Silbersky, said she would appeal. The court had given far too much credence to the father's account, he said.

Only five people have been convicted of solicitation to murder in Sweden between 1990 and 2009. In 90 percent of the 2,000 murder cases since 1990 the murderer has acted alone.

“It is very unusual to plan and recruit accomplices. Violent crimes often happen on the spur of the moment. It is possible that there are unsolved murders in the criminal underworld and honour killings where people are guilty of soliciting, but it is hard to prove,” said Mikael Ryning at the University of Central Sweden.

I think they are both mentally sane. Putting them in jail may make them worse and dangerous after the end of their terms. They should be spend to a secure mental hospital until the professionals find them fit to leave the facility.

These people make me sick... I can't understand this at all.

I can't even find the words to adequately relay my disgust.

I say drop them both down a deep well and forget about them.

Sick people. They both should be locked up.

@europeman31 "when society governs by Lust" That would have be one of the dumbest comments I have read.

Its difficult to proof her guilt. Its not enough for to say she persuaded him to kill his daughter as long as she didn't partake in the murder session. We all have our senses to make own individual independent Judgement and should be sorely resposnible for our decisions no matter who ask us to act. Except when you are in the millitary or organisation hierachy were orders are taken directly from superiors sometimes without premeditation.

10 years or life?

How about execution? Why sweden can not make an exception when it comes to crimes against children i do not understand, a person who would harm a child much less kill a child or their own for that matter should be executed and reduced to ashes.

And for people to say, well execution would be just as bad as what he did to the child is a stupid moron and should be slapped to equate the two. You cannot compare.

And they thought they would live happily ever after?

@Audrian, you want to send a "mother" who had her husband break his little daughter's back and kill her, to a mental hospital until the "professionals" deem this vomit of a people to be "fit to leave the facility"??

Are you sure YOU should not be locked up in a mental hospital?

This "mother" and "father" broke their little daughter's back and killed her, and you want to send them to a mental hospital until they are deemed fit to be released?

Your personal value system is truly sick, at best firmly founded in mid-air.

These disgusting people need to be quickly and professionally executed with four bullets in the heart, Utah style.

People who deem capital punishment wrong in principle need to sit down with some strong coffee and reevaluate what their respective value systems are based on. Because for most people, their value systems are baseless and stupid.

Hang, draw and quarter them!

What I don't understand is, she gets 10 years for solicitation of murder, but yet most murderers who do the actual murdering of people (adults) in Sverige only seem to get half of that. Why has she gotten 10 years then? Why don't all murderers get 10 years? Was it because the victim was just a små barn?

Oh my God!

Dont be surprised if the actual term to be spent is 3 years...cos the crime was committed 7 years ago . :)

In this the Swedes are ahead of the Canadians. In this recent news the mother actually deliberately murdered her own daughter and got a suspended sentence......she should have been executed.

I don't understand--did the three-year-old daughter dishonor the family by dating a Swede?

Anger Management is your answer, especially when it's about a murderous wife.

He needs to be castrated and she needs her ovaries removed. At least then, if they are released neither can create any more kids that would be endangered.

Personally, I could like to remove their hearts and give them to some person in need of a transplant, but this is Sweden alas.

Sick, sick, scum! Both of them!

Someone who finds easier to murder a 3 y/o little girl than to simply give her to her mother or to any institution is just a monster. I say prison for life with both.
