Government enjoys high trust rating

Confidence in Sweden’s government remains high despite a recent controversy surrounding the resignation of former labour market minister Sven Otto Littorin.

A Skop poll shows that 65 percent of voters believe the government is doing a “good job” or a “very good job”, an improvement of one percentage point on last month’s figures.

Some 25 percent of respondents described the government’s performance as “very good” compared to 22 percent in June.

But there was also increased dissatisfaction with the centre-right Alliance, as the proportion of voters characterizing the government’s performance as “bad” or “very bad” rose from 18 to 20 percent. Eight percent of those polled said the government was doing a “very bad job”.

Half of the 1,000 people polled were interviewed after Sven Otto Littorin’s high profile resignation on July 7th.

The three party Red-Green coalition enjoyed a two point upswing on last month, with 30 percent believing the Social Democrats, Left Party and Greens would do a better job than the government. Some 42 percent said the opposition would do a worse job, down slightly from 43 percent in June.

“Confidence in the Red-Green government alternative has recovered from its lowest level in June. There are however still many Swedes who believe a Red-Green government would do a worse job than the current centre-right Alliance government,” said Skop analyst Örjan Hultåker.

Skop interviewed 1,000 people aged 18 to 84 in the period from June 30th to July 31st. Respondents were asked two questions: “Do you think the government on the whole is doing a good or a bad job?”; and, “Do you believe a government made up of the Social Democrats, Green Party and Left Party would do a better or worse job?”

Our Prime Minister is doing an amazing job...and for a fraction of the salary his counterparts earn in other EU countries! We should be very proud of him and his colleagues...in particular our Finance Minister!

Guys ..keep up the good work and know...there are many of us who think YOU ARE FANTASTIC.....

A week ago I read an article about a city manger in the city of Bell, California. His salary this year is almost 800 000 dollar (ca 6 miljoner kr) with an annual raise of 12%. And the police chief of this small town makes 457,000 dollar per year (ca 3,35 miljoner kr) which is substantially more than the chief of police in the city of Los Angeles makes annually. Bell is a city of 38 000 people whereas LA is a city of 3.8 million people

This example, at least for me,is one of the clearest and most blatant signs of the widespread corruption and failure in the economic model deployed in USA.

We're not quite there yet? Are we?

@ miss 79

I had a discussion over dinner with my two brothers in law and respectivare the other day about the course of politics in Sweden. I said something similar to what you have said here. They replied something similiar to what @shannon1 replied.

The discussion about neo liberal politics was only faught with arguments like "I BELIEVE" as if politics was a religion, or "you can\t compare societies" As if politics studies would have isolated theories, as if neo liberal politics wouldn't have caused the same in each and every country they have been applied. They also made statements like "I work in Mc donalds and I know that it is impossible to take people form the black market because we have to fill in a book" jeeesus.

Then I realized that you can't discuss politics with most Swedes for MANY factors.

In this case, some of them have never gone out of their little town in the middle of Sweden beyong a charter trip to some destination invaded by Swedes, so they haven't see the world.

The handle a level of naiveness that makes them blind and impossible to talk to.

And finally I remember that meanwhile my country had some of the best ingeneers in the world and was one of the richest countries in this planet, Sweden was still full of analphabet farmers. So educations is a quite new thing to them. And finally that non of the ones sitting at that table has ever read John Maynard Keynes, to at least begin to talk about something. They are more interested in following princess Victoria's wedding on tv.

I ended that conversation because, after all, when this country starts to collapse and most people loses their houses because they can't pay their loans I can finally run to mine, take my husband with me and chill in my big summer house by the beach, or my big aparment in the centre of the city back in my homeland.
