Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward on Tuesday after an eight-year-old girl was raped by a stranger in a Stockholm suburb.

The girl was attacked in a forest in Sollentuna, to the north of the capital, at around 2pm on Tuesday.

“The girl was lured into a car and driven to the Sjöberg area where he raped her,” said Diana Sundin, spokeswoman for Stockholm police.

Following the attack, the girl ran home and told her parents what had happened. She was undergoing a hospital examination on Tuesday afternoon.

Police are asking for witnesses who saw the man, who was driving a dark-coloured car.

“We don’t want to release a description at the moment, as this is information from a small child,” Sundin said.

The man’s approach to the girl differed substantially to the methods used by a paedophile who has molested some twenty children in Stockholm over the past year, and who has so far not been caught.

so amazing the number for rape cases in sweden...
19:59 July 27, 2010 by Andersson
sad news. Now there is big difference between "is-Sweden" and "was-Sweden", so parents must exercise maximum vigilance.
20:15 July 27, 2010 by europeman31
Parents must advice Maximum vigilance and appeal for hard law for rapist , so that rest of our children live in safe place. Otherwise it may happen when your child report the same. May this not happen ...

Laws should be made strict for rapist to control this evil of society.
20:50 July 27, 2010 by eZee.se
Cases like these I think fuel my (and others like me) desire to have castration on the table for such serious offenses.

Laws should be changed, penalties should be strengthened and proper attention should be given here instead of 40million kronor being wasted on the police monitoring regular prostitution (http://www.thelocal.se/28034/20100727/) and prosecuting some idiot for reading/translating Japanese cartoons(http://www.thelocal.se/27984/20100725/mostread).

A little girl has been scarred for life by a maniac- this is what society should be really concerned about and make changes to make it not worth happening again.

I have to ask a very common sense, though non-accusatory, question here: Where were the parents of this little 8 yr. old child, as she walks through a forest on her own?

Additionally, why do authorities assume there is only 1 pedophile perpetrator/abductor responsible for molesting some twenty children in Stockholm over the past year?

Like other skeptics I have to wonder, if or when they do apprehend this monster, what might be his consequences for horrifying/traumatizing this little child for life?

This is deeply saddening news and a wake up call for parents who can no longer take their child's safety for granted
22:14 July 27, 2010 by Michael84
Unbelievable what kind of sick human being could commit such a crime?
23:10 July 27, 2010 by wxman
"We don't want to release a description at the moment, as this is information from a small child." This smells like a real PC response. She probably described your average blond blue eyed Swedish male. ;~)

And if caught, he will get the Swedish taste of hard life behind bars. 6 months in an ocean view jail with access to music, TV, gym and all the amenities of a country club. Ah and lest not forget release every other Sunday
00:08 July 28, 2010 by billyb362
concha de tu puta madre -

this beast might also get the royal treatment of being escorted to the local sex shop (by his prison guards) to stimulate sexual fantasies and make purchases. Did these prison guards get FIRED from their position after that outing? We almost never hear of any follow-up of these type things...it's very disappointing. The Local should really give us UPDATES on such things.

The laws here in Sweden against hard core sex offenders are just brutal, aren't they? It makes one wonder if the politicians who make these lenient laws entertain the same sexual fantasies themselves, in the event they ever get busted.

Something does not add up here yet again

not sure if castration would work as he is incredibly poorly endowed it seems, he drove her some place else and she ran home to tell so she evidently was uninjured she could run long distances home

maybe the crim has no equipment and only fits an 8 year old child maybe someone needs to attack him with some nail clippers!

or maybe she is telling fibs or the story is not correct yet again
07:37 July 28, 2010 by SarahRF
I hardly think an 8 yr old girl would run home and tell her parents a lie about being raped, especially when there's a medical examination involved.

As for the girl being alone in the forest, this is not exactly strange. She might live in a house that has a small forest right at the backyard boundary, and so her parents let her play there. I have a forest behind my house and kids are always in it, rarely any parents.

There really do need to be harsher laws against this kind of thing. Criminals shouldn't get cable tv and gym access. Cold stone floor, bread and water, maybe a blanket in winter. They have forfeited their rights to any comfort by breaking the law, they should not be pampered! I am all for castration!
09:00 July 28, 2010 by La Figaro
There is a little point you are all missing, what was she doing outside by that time?

The report says she was raped around 2pm, it means she was outside a bit earlier. I would have thought that her parents will ensure she's inside, latest 10pm. I know that there are longer days now, possibly daylight till 10pm and beyond but I still think the parents failed in their responsibility of ensuring she is indoors by that time.

As for Sweden, maybe they are waiting for a high profile person to be raped before they can have stiffer laws, penalties and jail time for rapists. Funny enough, the prisons there (UK inclusive) makes it quite attractive to homeless or bored people.
09:37 July 28, 2010 by dobermann
For such a people goverment should pass death sentence. But instead of that they will spend a few years in comfortable jail and that's all.
10:21 July 28, 2010 by Matan
@wxman

I beg to differ, and let me just say I think it's just the opposite.
10:24 July 28, 2010 by LeoKinmann
@La Figaro

2pm is in the afternoon. You were thinking about 2am. That's the perfect time to get out of the house after lunch to get some fresh air.

Wonder how the kid got lured into the car. Did the parents never tell her to not trust strangers?

Just looked up the locations on the map. There is a bay between Sollentuna and Sjöberg. The closest forest to both areas are near Edbergs slott, which is at the tip of the bay. If she lives in Sollentuna she shouldn've run at least 3-4km to get home.

"Criminals shouldn't get cable tv and gym access."

Yes, Sarah, but if they seriously punished rapists Sweden would lose its status as Europe's Rape Capital.

Sweden is best....
11:28 July 28, 2010 by jonathanjames61
Its not about criminal rehabilitation,its a about a sick man that need proper medical care,from a psyco hopital,8 year old ,common the man is sick.
11:37 July 28, 2010 by AussieAndy
Sick man, I hope they catch him. I feel sorry for the little girl.
15:59 July 28, 2010 by eppie
Many people here again think that harder punishment will solve the problem.

The typical solution for the rednecks of this world. Just make sure a government punishes hard and then we can all get back to sleep. The US way of handlking things....

Do you seriously thinks some person that rapes little children will think twice because of the possible punishment he can get?

Of course not.

What we need is higher chances of catching these people, and better ways of identifying strange behaviour that could lead to these kind of crimes.

(people that hurt animals are a dead giveaway for weird behaviour againts people and especially children for example).

Not so good for your revenge feelings but will lead to less victims in the future....and to me that is more important.

This is so sad and painful. I wish if my country Sweden applies some of the greatest laws that are in my great religion Islam, such as killing those freak-animals who rape and destroy poor child's life.
00:42 July 29, 2010 by old git
and stoning women to death for adultery, marko2010?
01:58 July 29, 2010 by hogwort
Castration is the solution. Once we know what those sick men have done, why should they be forgiven? I wonder why there doesn't exist a law like this... Maybe the politicians are afraid of being castrated too?
03:03 July 29, 2010 by harrylatour
@marko,,,,Rape is a disgusting vile crime and your Islam comment makes no sense at all.There is no way that this poor girl would get ANY justice under Sharia,,,,where are the four MALE witnesses she would require???
05:47 July 29, 2010 by Da Goat
Yesterday I was making comment that the perpetrator was very poorly hung being a small dick (and probably a smaller brain ..... oh sorry it was his dick he was thinking with)

the fact he could rape an 8 year old and she could still run home was my point ! and one could debrain him with nail clipper!

other than that I agree this is a cowardly crime!

@ marko you need to move on to the greater religion, the one that goes beyond justice and even beyond mercy to the religion of grace (and forgiveness), in short if no one has ever told you Islam is now days sick

re castration it might not work as he has no balls to start with !
09:50 July 29, 2010 by Marko2010S
@old git #21

Read very well what I wrote before you open your mouth Mr.Blind-Goon. I said "applies some of the greatest laws", "Some": doesn't mean "All". My text shows pretty obvious that I meant the death penalty for those freak-animal.

@harrylatour #23

You really don't have to make fool out of yourself, and talk about things you have no idea about. Islam's laws ask for Witnesses ONLY in case of adultery cases NOT raping you Bloody-Muppet.

@Da Goat #24

I respect myself, that's why I don't talk to animals.... hmmm your name is kind of....
11:34 July 29, 2010 by Harry Latour
@marco,,,I shall not be responding to anymore of your posts,,,because as usual with you Islamists,,as soon as a discussion is underway,you revert to abuse and insult,,,because you know that Islam is wanting when it comes to the ''small print''
19:20 July 29, 2010 by Michael Whitfield
Death penalty sounds a bit extreme. In Malaysia a beating with a cane sounds appropriate, but still perhaps too severe for our overly senstive and politically correct socities. Incarceration & rehabilitation?
07:51 July 30, 2010 by Rebel
Off with his balls!

There is absolutely no good reason to allow someone who would rape an 8 year old to have use of those things ever again -- either for fun or for reproduction.
17:13 July 30, 2010 by Icarusty
