According to the Swedish press that night was a very busy time for heart attacks as SOS was already treating 3 heart attacks in the A&E department at the time the ambulance arrived which meant that all of the A&E cardiac beds were full and the cardiac doctors were already busy.
The main issue appears to be communication between ambulance/hospital/ the 112 alarm centre
PUFFIN.......a hospital in the biggest city of the entire country can't handle more than 3 patients at a time with heart attacks? 65% of the country is like 55+, what are they going to do in a few years when thousands of these older Swedes start dropping? Just always seems to be excuses here
"We are not going to investigate why the man died, that is a medical issue."...yes it's a medical issue but it should still be looked at to see if the man could have been saved if he was taken at Södersjukhus and I bet you'll find he could have been.
"We will look at the transport and communication to see if anything has gone amiss"...HELLO? Something obviously has gone amiss. And if a big hospital in the capital city has problems dealing with three cardiac patients in Akuten then there is much much more amiss than a communication problem. This poor guy who died will probably be treated as nothing more than a statistic of the healthcare's communication problems.
I've had so many problems with the free healthcare system here I get so frustrated when I hear of stupid mistakes like this. Everywhere in the system (even akuten!) it'a "take a number" or "make an appointment" where the appointed time is normally at least a week later unless you go to Närakuten but they don't help much there anyway.
I use the private system whenever I can now. You pay a little extra but you can get appointments fairly quickly, you get treated with respect and you're not rushed. There's no "take a number" and you can call during business hours (unlike the ridiculous "telephone times" public doctors have because they don't see the need for secretaries).
