Sweden Democrat members exposed in leak

Published: 21 Sep 10 05:33 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/29146/20100921/

A register of over 5,000 people who are either members or have registered their interest in the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrats (SD), has been published on the internet.

"It is an old database... which the attacker presumably got hold of in the weekend's hacker attack. We have filed a police report," SD press spokesperson Erik Almqvist told the Dagens Nyheter (DN) daily.

But according to several Swedish bloggers rumours began circulating in the weeks running up to Sunday's general election that the Sweden Democrats' member list had been obtained by hackers back in April.

Either way the list was published on Monday and is presented as a search engine enabling visitors to the site to "Get to know your local Sweden Democrats" and "Find a friend near you" with the possibility to search according to town, street address or telephone number.

According to Almqvist the information has not been actively collected by the party, but has been filed by the applicants themselves.

Almqvist argued to DN that the details have been published in order to scare current and potential members, although he sought to play down the importance of the information.

"It is not particularly sensitive information really, but we know that there is a significant level of threats directed against the members of our party," he said.

The website where the register has been published is registered to Gottfried Svartholm Varg, one of the founders of file sharing website The Pirate Bay and whistleblower website Wikileaks' web host PRQ, which is hosting the site.

While it has been confirmed that the website's IP address does in fact belong to PRQ, it remains unclear whether Svartholm Varg is in fact the person behind the site.

The whole situation is muddied still further by the fact that Mikael Viborg, who operates PRQ, has previously been employed by the Sweden Democrats as their legal counsel.

The Sweden Democrats website has been the target of a series of hacker attacks during the election campaign and was not accessible at 6am on Tuesday.

This is pure blackmail, it is not illegal to be a member of any party. This kind of antiques will come back to hunt every other party.

Obama is a lesson in the making. Haven profitted from the media's bashing of Prez. Bush, he now has to contend with the same from Fox News.
07:31 September 21, 2010 by The Rabbi
whats the address to this list please anyone
07:41 September 21, 2010 by locaxy
@voiceofreason:

Of course it's not illegal! Freedom of expression and thoughts is too important to jeorpadize over this.

But I think it is the duty of society as a whole to push the nationalist counter-progressive (and in many cases, outright racist!) elements to the fringe. Not through violence or anything. Just through social pressure.
07:45 September 21, 2010 by flintis
Morons, that's right keep up the attacks, "no publicity is bad publicity", just bringing the SD more & more into public view, some people are too stupid to learn.
07:49 September 21, 2010 by Rey Stockholm
SD polled more votes than the commmunists - but, if I am correct communism has been resposnible for far more death and repression than any other ideology - why are they not getting similar treatment
07:57 September 21, 2010 by anglesaxon
we have a right in the west to be a member of what the hell we want.its mostly a few misguided people who think that intigration is the answer.the fact is that its not working, and it never will.be realistic sweden before its too late, and you become just another god forsaken country with no freedom at all.
08:00 September 21, 2010 by flintis
@ Rey Stockhol: you are not wrong, reason, bigotry & the ideal communist society where EVERYONE is equal.
08:15 September 21, 2010 by anglesaxon
bigotary mostly comes from the other direction.communism is a great idea, but get real, it never works in practice.we have freedoms in the west that most countries only dream of.we had better wake up before its too late.
08:37 September 21, 2010 by Iraniboy
Bla bla..Attackers?? Another self attack?

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that SD themselves leaked the list!!
09:32 September 21, 2010 by Niggletriple
Another tactic to intimidate the electorate. Therefore 'tainting' Democracy. In a truly free and Democratic society people should fell comfortable about voting for any politcal party they choose.
09:49 September 21, 2010 by Uncle
Iraniboy.

Of course you would not be surprised. Like you are not surprised that the west explodes itseld in buses and local swedish women are walking around in niqabs just to hurt the muslims. Probably some caricatursts hire some gullible little inncent muslims to enter their homes with axes.

You are also not surprised why jews attacked themselves in Kristallnacht and why "there is a significant level of threats directed against the members of SD". Of course SD hunts itself and beats itself on the streets.

It is not related to the non-existing gangs of muslim thugs who never attacked anyone at all.

"The party won 20 of the 349 seats in the country's parliament"

Really good news and this on top of Geert Wilders recent success. Hopefully people of Europe are beginning to wake up .People are beginning to realise that nationalism isn't a dirty word .Indeed to believe in Nationhood is to believe in a Great Britain ,in a France, in a Germany, in a Spain and so on . A country without effective borders and without a people with a shared history, culture and ancestry is not a country but merely a geographic area.
10:53 September 21, 2010 by flintis
@anglesaxon: I said an "ideal", never said that communism works.

Bigotry comes from the other direction? do you understand the word?

Bigotry towards religion & race is just as prevalent in communism as it is in facism and any other political standpoint.

The far right seem unaware that the mass influx of immigrants and asylum seekers is a product of capitalism. You'll notice the rise has occurred after the Social Democrats began moving right. A capitalist economy wants cheap labor, it has no patience for retraining, entire industries can vanish quickly as they're moved to other countries, and lastly countries like the US, UK, and their European allies want access to markets and resources around the world. Their latest endeavors in the middle east have resulted in many people fleeing the war that the west brought. The Swedish government has been a silent ally of the US for most of the 20th century and even more so for the past 20 years.

Global capitalists and those they've influenced in economics, finance, government, want the whole world to resemble America. No one has a sense of community. Everything is entertainment and products to enjoy as tourists on vacations. They want mass uncontrolled immigration to drive down domestic wages and benefits (the cost of labor) as well as ease of outsourcing and moving production to play countries against themselves. We'll be one world of consumers with no cultural identities, just those endlessly purchased, fighting against each other to get scraps.

The soft left, like Social Democrats and supporters, only view immigration and the situation with asylum seekers (in Sweden and elsewhere) as a matter of race. If they even entertain the idea that there is a problem, they won't be forward looking "progressives". None of the left parties want to touch the matter. They're either hoping to get those votes or are afraid of being labeled racist like the Swedish Democrats. The soft left in democracies often fail in this regard and then you have the rise of far right parties with more racist, far-right ideas (in terms of economics, religion, etc.).

@Bork

"the mass influx of immigrants and asylum seekers is a product of capitalism. "

Immigrants and assylum seekers have been around for all of human history. In each and every case, people are either running from something, or to something, or both. Capitalism is just another factor to run from or to, and (in historical terms) a very recent one. There are dozens of other factors that motivate people into becoming immigrants and assylum seekers (war, over/under population, repression, environmental changes, freedom to practice religion etc), and attributing them to only one (capitalism) is an over simplification that weakens the rest of your post.

SD has to expose selfs more.As we remmber ,they have been blocked by media before the election. It is true the more the media opens gate for them the more we know who realy they are .From my point of view SD is a poletical party trying to limit immigration in sweden nothing extra. As an immigrant this is a relief to words the ending of slavery and hope.

The shaking economy ,high rate of unemployment, low tollerance from the sociaty has lead to haterd to wards immigrants.UN body ,has warned sweden for its misstreatment to refuges and immigrants. And now "The calculated pressure from the sweden sociaty has created negetive impact among refugees. Most immigrants and refugee are exposed now psychological and physical truma and feeling of fear".Sweden is no longer stable and secure country for refugees and immigrants.Every refugees from africa has been exposed to cheap labour and misstreatment. The only ending to this slavery is if and only SD rules.

Those who were involved in the leak should be liable to prosecution.
17:41 September 21, 2010 by Rebel
I believe that even the Moderates believe some people are more equal than others.

People bettter hope and pray that no violence takes place against SD, supporters or their families in the near future. If it does, you can bet teh world media will expose peel away the nice exterior persona that Swedes have tried to cultivate to the world and see the little fascists that hides underneath.

actually it quite funny to read through the database with many fake entries. also looking at the entries you will see the database is not that old (i.e. someone writing "i'll turn 18 before the next elections and will vote you, etc.). just remove the article suffix from the official domain.

HUGE over-reaction :)

Swedes can´t group-resent this one into silence.

Too late, s**hit hit the fan big time now, it should´ve hit way earlier....
