More Thai women in Swedish sex trade: report

Published: 21 Sep 10 12:06 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/29154/20100921/

The number of Thai and Nigerian women exploited for sexual purposes in Sweden has increased, according to a police report on human trafficking.

The number of reports involving the exploitation of mentally handicapped women has also increased, according to a report on human trafficking from Sweden's National Police Board (Rikspolisstyrelsen) released on Tuesday.

"Alarming," Kajsa Wahlberg of the police board told news agency TT.

Last year was the first time Nigerian women were reported to have been involved in the sex trade in Sweden, likely as a result of the introduction of a law in Norway prohibiting the buying of sexual services that came into effect on January 1st, 2009.

In addition, the number of exploited Thai women has increased. There were also several reports of the pimping of exploited mentally handicapped girls last year.

The trafficking of Nigerian prostitutes has previously been a large problem in the rest of Europe. In Sweden, however, they have only appeared on a small scale in Gothenburg.

A trial is currently under way in Stockholm exposing a Nigerian prostitution ring. The exploited women involved were forced to undergo a voodoo ritual in their home countries, where they were intimidated into submission and repaying debts to the masterminds behind the ring.

The police board estimates that about 50 Nigerian women were exploited in the sex trade in Sweden last year. They often lack education and many of them are illiterate.

The Thai women who come to Sweden and are exploited for sexual purposes often come here through marriage or on visitor visas after being invited by Swedish men who then sell them into work in apartments, hotel rooms or at Thai massage parlours.

In the Stockholm area alone, police estimate that there are about 90 Thai massage parlours.

"Most offer sexual massage," said Wahlberg.

The police have never seen so many cases of sexual exploitation of girls and women with mental disabilities as were reported last year. Cases have been reported by police authorities in Stockholm, central Gävleborg and southern Skåne.

"They are totally unscrupulous men who exploit these helpless girls," said Wahlberg.

Other facts from the report reveal that the majority of women who were trafficked to Sweden in 2009 came from eastern Europe, Russia, Estonia, Romania, Hungary and Albania.

Most of the traffickers were men, but some were women, coming from Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Sweden, Estonia, Nigeria and Thailand.

There were also examples in which the traffickers exploited the victims for several purposes. In one case, two Czech women were trafficked to Sweden to steal during the day and prostitute in the evenings and nights.

Legalization of prostitution might minimize the trafficing of women to Sweden. To protect their market, prostitute with liscence can assit the police to catch smuggled women. Likewise, it might be easy for the police to spot women without a liscence, i.e., smuggled women.

Did i just read that "Most offer sexual massage," Bring on the SD lol
15:18 September 21, 2010 by Jes
This one the reasons why SD won 20 seats , isn´t it ?

The Local mentions 90 Thailand women , 50 Nigerians , then adds a line that implies that these women are handikapped . The Local does not bother to explain that there are many respectable women from Thailand or Nigeria . The Local does not tell the readers how many Swedish woman practice prostitution and why .

Just imagine what this kind of prejudiced reporting will do to those massage parlous that don`t employ prostitutes .
15:21 September 21, 2010 by Lostaussie
Sweden just doesn't get it...making prostitution illegal or the purchase of services from prostitutes illegal just does not work. Will it ever change here...not likely.
15:29 September 21, 2010 by zircon
Child prostitution is another evil... But when found behind the tears, after sexual entercourse, one can write his paper in the civilised world and universally find support by many women in power on his claims of how and why the extreme poor fill this world with sorrow.
15:44 September 21, 2010 by Taxalien
Allegedly officially I thought the report that came out earlier in the year indicated that Sweden was a special place where there was no sex trade because we had such forward thinking politicians that had abolished it?
15:58 September 21, 2010 by Sam1
The Sweds I'm sorry to say think they are the worlds best, if there was'nt so much malfunction in their society men of Sweden wouldnt go to thailand to get girls please them sexualy then abuse them, and use them as maids, they in the east asia are willing to do anything to live a better live.

Some of the Swedish men go to such countries to practive pervesion and crimes against children.

You think the police will bring morals?? You think the SD can bring morals by being an ironing force!!!

No its moral that should be though at school, the girls of Sweden should remember that equality does not mean they should take the role of men if they were good towards their men you wouldnt see so many Swed men getting Thai and indian etc.

So much divorce and breaking up because of nothing!!! and small issues, they leave their children grow up in a mind factory like Dagis or Fritids, you are not allow you are allowed its not funny to be mean its funny to stand in line.

They are treated like Robots.

Everyday a different man comes to pick them up lösas papa riktig papa, lösas mama riktig mama, ny mama pojkvänn gammal pojkvän, her boy friend might abuse her girls.

Oh son we didnt work!! why the hell you didnt think that before you brought me to this miserable life?? was is alcohol or a fling at party?? humans are so cheap to be brought up like a wild animal?? without the real love of mom and dad.

they grow up with cigrettes and alcohol and sex, and pornography, and prnography brings about perversion and psycho diseases and there comes thailand and child sex because maybe their losas papa abused them or they saw somehting sick.

I saw an advertice showing a lady pointing on her ass saying i had sex with matt damon, for every child to see on the street.

Children get exposed to so much explicit material with ADs and by their parents and their parents BF and GF before their mind can handle it.

WHat you expect then people???

"I saw an advertice showing a lady pointing on her ass saying i had sex with matt damon, for every child to see on the street."

here we go again Nigeria is always in the news for bad reasons, what about good ones.thailand as well.whats up with the good things they bring to sweden.thelocal image makers and image killers. my little girl who doesnt know about thailand and nigeria just said they are not good people there ,right ?

@ jes

am still wondering your views on the general elections results
17:25 September 21, 2010 by zircon
The sexual intercourse with children was meant here above written by zircon as a strategic move on the chessboard of pawns and... dare I say anything else?

But it is a mad world when it comes to children in the poorest places of the Third World. Sadness or sorrow should be found in the facts you see before you: e.g. their governments. Woe is me! Deprofundis and so forth, are a few cries of sorrow to the heavens. And what have we learned so far from the old views? Instead mankind can only take himself seriously after having sex with a child? Pin pointing out to the world where and why sorrow of the poor is deeply insulting to human intelligence. Aha! Women will never be able to find out the same facts of this abhorrence then.
19:09 September 21, 2010 by Jes
@ granti ke

You are still wondering what my views on the elections are ?

Well , I am still in shock . I just can`t believe that the Racists got ONLY 5.7 % . If that woman who had sex with a horse started a party , she would beat the Moderates , I think .

Also , I find it funny that the Wonderful Swedish Democracy party is panicking that the list of their almighty members is out there . Does this mean that haters are allergic to being hated ?

Maybe they should wear hoods like their brothers of KKK

Idiots thinking they can ban the world's oldest profession. In 20 years, Sweden will look back to this era with disbelief.

CLIMAX is the attraction, common in both sex and alcohol. One is legalized and other has bar.

Swedish authorities should round up all these individuals and immediatly DEPORT them back to their native countries, the individuals who solicite the services of the prostitutes should be arrested and prosecuted for " Aiding and Abetting the Exploitation of Human Beings". If the citizens of Sweden do not start taking VERY AGGRESSIVE action to DEPORT all non-Swedish persons the Swedish race ( the individuals that have lived in Sweden for several THOUSAND years and the culture they created will become extinct in 50 - 100 years. Yes, help the citizens of the world make THEIR NATIVE COUNTRIES better places/more civilized places but DO NOT COMMIT NATIONAL / ETHNIC / CULTURAL SUICIDE by bringing them to Sweden. Look at the Japanese....they help but they emphatically insist that Japan is for Japanese. You don't see the Japanese taking in refugees for ANY REASON. They make no apologies either.
11:49 September 22, 2010 by grantike
@jimmyjames

this is sweden and not japan .i do not know who you are or where you are from but have this at back of your mind that this is sweden not japan or thailand or nigeria or wherever thes people come from.every country have thier policies
12:03 September 22, 2010 by Sam1
@Jimmyjames

For your kind information its not the Swedish citizens who deport its the Police.

and this extinct lie that you carry in your head is not true.

Because there is mingeling fo cultures and integration, and there are good people who contribute to developing Sweden as planet earth and a world citizen. Imagine if Dubai removes their Multiculture, its like remove blood from a body.

You see something from a very narrow perspective.

You know Immigrant doctors I met in Sweden I got the best treatment in Jämtland, because the Swedish 50+ or 65+ doctors knew nothing about medicine and were narrow arrogant specially the ones in the suburbs healthcentrals.

and Swedish citizens say the same that an Indian doctor took the trouble to find out their problem with further investigation not just blame your disease on some chronic discomfort.

Immigrants are rich in cultures Wether arabs or Chiense or Serbs and they add to Swedens benefit.

and by the way Japan japanese thing is not true they have lots of Koreans and Chinese and indonasians and other asians, and americans, but they still discriminate unfortunately other cultures and that is a shame to carry on.

That is very sad. get these women off the streets, educate them and help them settle into normal lives. sex for money is not healty at all. feel sorry for these women.
12:41 September 23, 2010 by zooeden
People c´mon, think about AIDS for f&#¤ sake!!!
11:06 September 24, 2010 by Taha
@freedom of speech

My friend, Sweden has entered into a 'new' era. This is not an era of Center-left where they would carry them off, educate them and help them live a normal life. Now is the time for right wing which means that if you have money, get education otherwise get out on the streets (as whatever suits you well).

You know what I mean :)
19:27 September 25, 2010 by Hoath
I would have thought the fact that it is now illegal to purchase sex is deterring men from reporting suspected human trafficking to the police.
16:53 January 27, 2011 by Nilspet
@Jes

Totally agree with you. ... 90 Thais and 50 Nigerians.

I think Sweden should pause and look at ourselves.

I think politicians have forgotten and these women make lives better for many of us here. Same apply to many foreigners who work hard here.
