The SD must be confronted in debate and not by changing democracy.
Such a change is exactly what people accuse the SD of wanting to do!
They have been democratically elected. Tough luck. But you can't ignore 5,7% of the voters. That would really be playing with fire. Look at Belgium and the Netherlands to see what could happen in Sweden if the other parties try to ignore the SD. The SD will probably blow itself up. See the article today about a SD member wanting to shoot people. There are probably more nutters like this one who are going to take their seats in Councils all over the country. No political experience and no discipline. One thing for sure, politics won't be dull for some time to come!
From Swedish law
5 kap 1 § Brottsbalken:
"Den som utpekar någon såsom brottslig eller klandervärd i sitt levnadssätt eller eljest lämnar uppgift som är ägnad att utsätta denne för andras missaktning, dömes för förtal till böter. "
-Page 5:9 i Brottsbalksommentaren, 2005, står att även en grupp som utpekas omfattas av detta skydd om det går att härleda detta till vissa individer.
This is a law that even newspapers that follow not just politicians.
i have a friends in usa and switerzland. they have alredy told me that pple there now see sweden as a nazis country and they have taken there trust out of them. i realy felt bad wen they said that to me coz of the sd imagine.
Restructuring of Riksdag to avoid and ignore 100's of thousands of voters is not at all democratic, and would signal a downward spiral for Sweden.
(PS. The local, you tarts. I used a word you used in your article, and my post got rejected for profanity. Fair enough, but lets have one standard ha!?)
Fear the right wing!
Like the elite rulers in the US, which control the local and world economy (particularly third world economy) through easy creadit and indebtdness, the new elite rulers in the Sweden will complete what they have already started recently, i.e., privitizing and starving school, health care and other public services so that taxes will be reduced for corporation and the wealth class (neo-conservative ieology). At the same time easy loans would creat the illusion of weath in the short run. In the long run rise in the supply of money is inflationary, which ttransfers income from the working people and other fixed income earners to corporations and the wealth.
Sweden will emerge as a country split between the haves (the local rich and others from the rest of the world) and the have-nots (the rest of Sweden). Likewise services (schools, hospitals and universities) will develop along income divison, one for the rich and the other for the poor. Such a system is unstable without a sizable number networks of security and prison network to squash strikes, walk-outs, demonstrations and revolts.
The political parties must be democratic & abide by the wishes of the electorate, if they the M, FP, KD, C, S & MP get their acts together & stop bickering & these activists stop with their demonstrations, then the SD will slip quietly back from whence it came, hopefully taking the V with it.
Fascism is already here in Sweden, in the UK, particularly obvious in the USA, and virtually all of the Western world. Every piece of legislation passed is designed to destroy the SME and help the large corporates. The middle class are being plundered, not so obvious here in Sweden yet (but it will become obvious soon), but clear as crystal in the USA and the UK.
What is required is the almost complete rolling back of state powers and the trial of all corrupt, bought and paid for politicians for treason against the people.
This word is used nearly every day in our SFI course. Its literally shoved down our throat and always delivered with a sense of smugness and superiority. It was even used in our Nationellt prov today!!!
Democracy is the other smug word used every single day....
What no-one told us was that "all" apparently means " only some" in Sweden and apparently Democracy means Doing it "our" Way or the Highway. "Our" belonging obviously to "some".
What a crock of ####. Sverige behöver växa upp!!!!
but if greens and left party are allowed representation, so should SD... just to keep peace in the country, they should be allowed in whatever they have achieved... so that they have no justification to run violent!
Because people, this is not democracy: http://www.boingboing.net/2010/08/11/tom-the-dancing-bug-15.html
(It is, but not the good democracy that we like)
I agree. If the moderates wants minimize the SD's, they will simply have to take the smug route and treat them with the respect of votes they earned.
Simply stonewalling them creates the "martyr" situation and will only play into thier favor.
The fact is, if the SD's want to gain 18% in the next couple of elections as they have stated, they will have to tone down thier rhetoric in order to court that number. That is the dynamic in european politics; all the parties are extreme in thier message, because that's what they need to do to get heard, because they know once in parliment, thier agenda gets watered down.
As before, I'm happy for the SD's as its a indicator that Sweden has woken up from years of bad policy, but the SDs are going to have to learn how to deal with parliment, and to tone down thier message and mature.
"Mussolini, who knew a thing or two about Fascism, defined it as the merger of State and (large) Corporate interests"
Not sure about that one.
Communism is where the State runs the means of production.
Capitalism is where private enterprise runs the means of production.
All Capitalist Societies have Government that oversees the means of production by regulating the economy.
By this definition, all counties that are not communist, are fascist.
"Fascists believe that a nation is an organic community that requires strong leadership, singular collective identity, and the will and ability to commit violence and wage war in order to keep the nation strong. They claim that culture is created by the collective national society and its state, that cultural ideas are what give individuals identity, and thus they reject individualism."
The U.S. fosters individual liberty and loves its rock stars, sports heroes, and movie stars. If there is any place the "individual" rules supreme, it's there. Therefore, your point is wholly incorrect. The U.S. is not a fascist state (and, imo neither are the UK or Sweden).
Dont ever vote for the established scumbag parties again.
I am actually hearing people complain that they will vote for the Swedish Democrats out of contempt it they are not allowed to assume their rightful place in the Riksdag.
Swedish democratic values...yeah right.
You DO NOT refuse to sit in the same room with a democratically chosen opponent!
This is 3-year old´s behaviour. You DO NOT treat a grown people like this!
Yes, there are fascists in the Riksdag, but it remains to be proven that the Swedish Democrats are as much fascist, or more fascist, than their more polite (on the outside) collegues.
In theory you can't introduce a new law in order to punish a past act which was not considered a crime (e.g. getting 5.7% of the votes) at the time.
It will only help the impression that the nationalists are bullied here. Victim hood is the best weapon a small party can have.
Leftist groups are attacking their political opponents openly and covertly, both using words and violence. Just like they did then. SD is sitting latently as sheep to slaughter and look like they are just trying to point out some core issues that established parties have done wrong, while most know that there is (or was, I don't know which) a core in SD that are as militant and undemocratic as the leftistas are. Meanwhile leftists and establishment are defending everything, even things that are clearly wrong (like allowing more immigrants to come when they obviously don't work) and in doing so are closing the door on the reason why people are not working (taxes, regulation and prevalent discrimination). Meanwhile SD actually have nothing to offer solution wise other than more prejudice and more regulation and discriminatory practices.
Sweden is being drawn to the left and towards more planning and market interferance and there is no end in sight for the plight of the immigrant who wants to work, for the sick to be allowed a decent living and subsistence conditions and the young have a future going through an educational system in severe crisis.
Sweden will probably become the next Ireland, seeing most of its young talent migrate out while leaving the poorest behind.
If 330 million Americans can get along, what's wrong with you folks?
Have a nice winter.
i have a friends in usa and switerzland. they have alredy told me that pple there now see sweden as a nazis country and they have taken there trust out of them.
You sir, are an idiot and a liar. I doubt ANYONE thinks Sweden is a "Nazi" country because 5.7% of the people democratically voted for the SD. However, if Sweden allows the changing of democracy, THEN the world will view it for what it is. Totalitarian. As if that would be a shock.
