Sweden defence firm Saab has received an order for an airborne surveillance system worth in excess of 4.5 billion kronor ($669 million).

The order concerns delivery of the Saab 2000 Airborne Early Warning & Control system, which comprises of a Saab 2000 aircraft equipped with the advanced ERIEYE radar system, according to a company statement on Monday.

"This contract can be seen as a further confirmation of our strong position in the world regarding not only the area of airborne surveillance but in systems integration and data fusion as well," said Saab CEO Håkan Buskhe.

The contract also includes ground equipment as well as logistics and support services which together can be used in connection with, for example, border surveillance, rescue operations as well as in combating terrorism and organised crime, Saab explained in its statement.

Saab's ERIEYE system has been bought by the Swedish Air Force, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates in the Saab 340 aircraft.

The system has also been sold to Brazil, Mexico and Greece as part of the Embraer 145 system, and to Pakistan in its latest model, the Saab 2000.

The firm has declined to divulge the identity of its latest client.

"The firm has declined to divulge the identity of its latest client."

That's because it's America. Wouldn't look too good on Sweden if everyone knew.

so patheric, you sell weapons so that they keep fighting .. You are as war crinimanl as anyone else.

stop having dual policy ,

Sad news !

Since when selling weapons for killing human beings and for destruction purposes is something to brag about and be proud of...

Huh? How can I forget the root of devil?

My fellow Swede the bloody-goon Alfred Nobel who contributed a lot to invent the dynamite to kill innocent children. Alas, Sweden made him a hero and perpetuated his treasure by prizes. Even worse, they gave a prize to the leader (Obama) of the satanic state.

agree with idialogue, bcoz of fighting REFUGEES will start finding a place or a new country to settle in too..then U swedes or any european brats starts to complain immigrants this n that..but hey look whos talking??
12:38 October 4, 2010 by Swedesmith
Actually, it appears to be a defensive system to prevent bloody goons from blowing innocent people out of the air.

@Swedesmith #9

First of all I wonder if you were drunk when you post your comment, or what's the story?

1) The satanic and lunatic state (Israel) has nuclear weapons, and they love to use the pretext that "Whatever weapons that Israel has, is only used for defensive purposes".

Indeed, for defensive purposes! We saw how Israel burn poor Children white phosphorus.

So, you bloody-muppet are ignoring the fact that many corrupted countries that lead by mindless-goons like you can manipulate meanings.

2) All in all, It comes down to moral obligations. It is known that when you are selling weapons, then, you are beating the drums of the war. Anyways, many people nowadays are completely honorless, ill-mannered and love destruction.

Ja, that is a good news. Also if they could get back Volvo...American and Chinese Volvo doesn't sound good to me. German Swedish:)))
15:44 October 4, 2010 by Swedesmith
No, Marko. I was not drunk. I simply read the story. You can read, can't you? The story says that it is a surveillance system, there appears to be no offensive capabilities. You seem a little stressed out. Perhaps you should get drunk.

@Swedesmith #12

You have a narrow view. I am talking about the big picture. In general, selling weapons is something immoral as a matter of fact it is way worse than selling drugs.

You reduced the whole issue in one case, How about the missiles systems of Saab and its partners? Are those used for distributing roses?

It is funny that I had to explain obvious things to you, in order to catch the drift.

The reality is that defense ( clearly talking "attack") systems are needed in every country that needs to preserve his resources (all), the opposite is an utopia (and a very beautiful one), until today history has always worked and proven like that, we are miserable human beings after all.

I think that this issue could only be solved if all humans in the earth were having enough resources to their lifestyle, infinite energy sources and a high education standard for all individual in all the countries, highly critical with his government, invulnerable to manipulations and of course able to organizing themselves, a very big utopia for these days, who knows in the middle term future.

Of course I can be accused as a butcher for accepting the contemporary human reality and I will have nothing to discuss in the ethical arena (but a lot in the practical one), what I find dishonest with himself are self-justifying positions where there is not recognized that warfare machinery it´s used to kill, this is a military appliance for warfare, dot.

Marko2010S is such a funny guy hahah

i bit retarded but funny... i have read this article 3 times and English is my first language..i still have not seen where it says "missiles systems"

and @ NickM whats up with the American comment? perhaps you should read a little bit more about your country's relationship with my country the United States is currently the third largest Swedish export trade partner, and not to mention US companies are the most represented foreign companies in Sweden. And it is no secret that Sweden has military relations with America

so tip of the day...dont talk about a country you have relations with it makes you look like an idiot

Jag älskar Sverige och svenska folket .. bara inte de dumma dem

wake up and smell the coffee. out of the 2000 years of known conflict, peace has only prevailed during 180 odd years. if you think you can change human behavior engraved over millenniums i wish you the best of luck cause you'll need it
13:14 October 5, 2010 by maakm
Ha

Weapon manufacturers are not the terrorist but who use them, they became the terrorists. Again, if America make it, it is ok for every one. If any Muslim country build their own weapons then they charge the allegation of mass destruction weapons.

f....king moronic thinking.
01:10 October 6, 2010 by millionmileman
So what if America buys from Saab, she already uses Bofors guns for the Navy. The US Marines use the Swedish anti-tank missile amongst other weapons.
14:49 October 8, 2010 by dmj123
I always laugh when i see some of the stuff in the comments. All the sould searching over weapons and the claims of dispicable behavior by isreal of any one of a dozen other countries. The Phosphorus claim about isreal is the most absurd. It was proven that an isreali artillery round hit a PALESTINIAN stash of phosphorus grenades and other munitions, a valid military target I might add, not that isreal used them on civilians. But I digress. The operative thought here is the following quote; "Until war is outlawed by all nations the only thing more criminal tthan war is not being prepared to fight one. " When all the terrorist, dictators, rouge nations, and nickel and dime emperors stop arming for war and attacking then the rest of us can stop making weapons. Until then we need to be ready to fight if needed. Those that cry the most over weapons expenditures in peacetime are usually the loudest voices calling for the heads of the politicians who listened to them and left the country unprepared when we are attacked.

@ andaman

Are you Thai? Here in Sweden knew of what was going on in Thailand in the past few years. It was not the army to be blamed, and the Thai army did not use Swedish machines to end the illegal and violent uprising.
