Obama congratulates Reinfeldt on re-election

Published: 9 Oct 10 11:13 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/29512/20101009/

US President Barack Obama called Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt to congratulate him on his re-election on Friday and discuss the threat posed by Al-Qaeda and its allies to Europe.

"President Obama called Prime Minister Reinfeldt of Sweden today to congratulate the Prime Minister on his re-election," the White House said in a short statement.

"The President thanked the Prime Minister for Sweden's leadership on a broad range of issues, including Swedish support for the International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan," it added.

The leaders also discussed US and Swedish collaboration in the fight against the threat posed by Al-Qaeda and its extremist allies to Europe, the statement said.

Reinfeldt presented his new government to the Swedish parliament on Tuesday, confirming that he would govern with the minority his coalition was handed after the September 19th election. The coalition did not include the anti-immigrant Sweden Democrats, which entered parliament for the first time after the election.

The newly installed minority government wasted no time getting to work, announcing plans on Wednesday to present 77 motions in the next three months.

The budget proposition is set to be the most significant, incorporating a series of election manifesto pledges. One of the proposals included in the register addresses the extension of the mandate for the Swedish troops in Afghanistan, which is due to be presented on November 4th.

Obama is extremely unpopular in the U.S. now.His approval rating now ties George W. Bush's.He has been a huge disappoinment to most people.

Of course he likes the center-right. They love American wars and play along with these propaganda games. Let's see, major election coming up in the US. Public is growing skeptical of the US role and purpose in Afghanistan. American left thinks the US needs to get out, the right think Obama's somehow "weak" just because he's not Republican. Humanitarian groups and the left are opposed to the use of drone attacks and assassinations. So, perfect timing to announce a sudden increased risk of terrorist attack. The US-idolizing center-right governments in Europe then follow right along. They just find a few people with connections to Europe who have no concrete plans, have not committed crimes, blow their risk out of proportion, assassinate them (and many bystanders) using drone attacks. The Obama administration is more dangerous than the Bush administration because they're carrying out the same actions and worse but in a way that isn't as blatantly phony as the Bush administration. Sweden is no longer (and arguably never was) free of criticism here as Sweden manufactures weapons used in these wars, has sent troops to Afghanistan, and is playing along with the American propaganda campaign.

If Obama could shed his narcissist persona and park his smug ignorance, he'd realize that there is something to learn about what happened in the Swedish election.

A similarly rooted riptide is going to be the final nail in this failed presidency's coffin in November.

Y'all fags come on here and talk a lot of crap! having read through all the comments, i couldn't find anything but destructive criticism without any alternative plans of your own. Wonder what u'd do to please all 300million American if you were sitting at the helm of power. This guy took over a country that has been f"#"¤ck up for many generations, and now some of you sound like he's the root cause of it all. Makes me wonder what your real agenda is?

Let's see how long can the USA dominate the world when their country is dominated by Blacks and Hispanics? Let's see how these Blacks and Brown Hispanics going to compete with 1.8 Billion Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans and Japanese? The same goes to you too Europe...let's see how are you going to manage when your Continent is dominated by the Muslims? 50 years from now China will still belong to the Chinese, who do you think Europe will belong to? What do you think going to happen to sweden? So, what do you think now, the SD people are racists or patriots?

It´s true what you are saying, American government is hijacked long ago but Obama doesn't deserve special treatment, he is just another puppet.

@ misssh you dont have to like America.. just respect us..drone attacks saves lives and by lives i mean human lives.. ans it kills scum of the earth like the terrorists..which are not human but the dirt under my feet..we should have done more drone attacks in Afghanistan at the start of the war ..it is simple.. dont harbor murders scum..if you do you get bombed

@v b74..ehhh your statement is kinda true he isnt quite as low as Bush.. and it is an election year so the Republicans are the ones that making the big stink..Obama like all of the presidents are just puppets..but in the same breath Obama got handed a mess from Bush..people both in America and in other country's dont understand.. it normally takes 3-6 years for laws to get in to effect..it doesn't happen over night..i dont support Obama or anyone in this counrty.. i want to end the 2 party system because it has failed from the start.. i want parliament! like y'all have.

@ rafa1981 exactly! he is a puppet..the only reason he got elected was because he is black..but he has white in him too so.. it was either him or Sara palin obama was lesser of the 2 evils so...

@ Makaveli i will have to agree with you also..there is a lot of people bashing America even Swededs are bashing America..but im sure it is just the uneducated Swedes doing it

@ GefleFrequentFlyer smug ignorance? he isnt smug he is just calm..there is a difference im not sure what is to be learned with the Swedish election..."A similarly rooted riptide is going to be the final nail in this failed presidency's coffin in November."..not sure if you aren an American or not but we have a 2 party system..it is either Democrats or Republicans sure we have the "tea party" but they are republicans so it isnt a new party.. then you have te "independent" which will either vote Dem or Rep..we dont have a government like Sweden where there are more than one party..wish we did.. this countery is going to crap rapidly

@tdye

eeeeh... I'm an american not a Swede and my statement is totally true the latest

poll I saw (today) showed only 29% strongly approved. And I think most people can agree that in general, there is a sence of disappointment with him. But I do agree with you in that the two party system really isn't the best way to go. In the last two elections I didn't like either candidate but that is the only choice we're given and a vote for the indepedants is a wasted vote since they are never gonna win. So yes I would like to see a European style parliment system as well.
23:37 October 11, 2010 by Tdye
well as an American you of all people should understand that Obama got this mess straight from Bush..i dont support Obama but i mean it is like everyone is giving him crap for no reason.. it took 8 years for Bush to bankrupt this country and it will take longer than ( less than 2 years that he has been in office) for Obama to try to fix it..I know as well as You know that Obama isnt going to be able to fix this mess but instead of blaming him.. lets blame the house and senate..he is but one man and when he has an idea if he doenst get the support to back him it is a dead fish so it is all on the house and senate

This is America! it is WE the people.. our voice matters here not theirs we decide who does what and when they do it.. but that being said We are a lazy country and no one will take the time to stand up for their rights..what poll did you see that on?

cause as we both know the Media makes the rules here.. you look at CNN and Fox and they will both say something way different

I have been paying close attention to the independents..they lean either dems..or reps.. unlike the Tea party which is republican wit a stupid name so that being said it is still a 2 party system which ever way we go..maybe we could get Sweden's government to come over here and get stuff going right lol..
01:04 October 12, 2010 by vb74
You seem like I implied it was Obama's fault which I did not I simply stated a widley known fact, Obama's approval is low and most people are not pleased with him. Alot of this discontent does have to do with the economy. Even though I did not like Bush and most of the economic problem are his aministration's fault there were other factors like our automobile industry etc. (that's a whole discusson in it's self). I don't like Bush or Obama but I think the president in general gets blamed for things that they have no control of. And yes the media, oh god the media! I could not agree more, it is virtually impossible to get any kind of impartial reporting. I've always that a multi party system was attractive because in America it seems so often that we are polarized about issues it's either one extreme or the other and so many people are middle of the road like me and neither the liberals nor conservatives represent my opinions.Yes in some ways we could learn from the Swedes and Europeans in general.
08:01 October 12, 2010 by Tdye
no i wasn't implying that at all sorry if it came off that way

i could really care less about his rating anyways cause in 2 years there will be a new idiot in office and they will screw things up as well..

and Sweden thinks they have problems hahah
16:15 October 12, 2010 by vb74
Yeah I'm expecting a republican to win this time so we can have 4 years of a bunch of religous finatics debating the "evils" of gay marriage. And yeah I agree with you on the tea party and as they gain more power which it looks like they will i'll bet anything, homophobic non sence is gonna be on the agenda alot instead of dealing with the real issues that people like you and I and most of the public really care about (the wars, economy, education, etc.). But hey I guess everyone has problems. Take care
