Abba star sues Buddhist temple owner

Published: 13 Oct 10 12:15 CET | Print version

Former Abba star Anni-Frid Reuss, has demanded the repayment of a 46 million kronor ($7 million) loan from a Qigong temple in southern Sweden, which has in turn claimed that the money was a donation.

Reuss (nee Lyngstad) has, together with her partner W H Smith, filed a bankruptcy order against Swedish Medical Qiqong Investment AB, which operates the Yangtorp Qigong Resort, located near Hörby in southern Sweden, after the firm missed a payment on a 46.2 million kronor ($7 million) loan.

"She has filed the bankruptcy application, because she wants to bankrupt the company - it is the only way she can get her money back," said Carl-Gustaf Söder, Anni-Frid Reuss' lawyer, to The Local on Wednesday.

The firm and resort is run by Master Marcus Bongart, who founded and built up the temple and healing centre on the site of the old village school house in Jönstorp.

Bongart told The Local on Wednesday that he is "in shock" at the turn of events and argued that the money received from the former Abba star was a gesture of "commitment to the operation" and was meant as a donation and not as a loan.

"We have been friends for a long time. We have had disagreements over how to develop the temple, but that is all that has happened. The money is not there to be paid back, it is invested in the buildings, in the Buddhist temple."

But Carl-Gustaf Söder rejected Bongart's claims that the money was meant as a gift.

"The debt is included in the company accounts, so I don't understand how he can maintain that."

Bongart argued that Anni-Frid Reuss gave no warning that she was to demand repayment and furthermore claimed that the purpose of the bankruptcy application was to take over the company and turn the centre into a luxury hotel in order to earn more money.

"I have no idea of their plans," Carl-Gustaf Söder told The Local.

When asked what the future now holds for Yangtorp, which describes itself as "a magnificent oriental temple in the middle of the Scanian beech woods", Bongart replied:

"We shall have to see. Now we are in this situation. We are in shock and were not prepared. At the moment we are unable to reach agreement, so the future is uncertain."

A prince recently wrote to me... telling me there are millions for the taking and he would be willing to give me percentage if I helped him get it out of Nigeria...

I am pretty happy where I am, but dear Anni-Fred - sounds like this Nigerian prince is just the person you were looking for...

So snake oil is not working, she want refund. So called Master Marcus Bongart cliams to be a buddhist...I am a buddhist but I sure won't donate a single cent to him. But Dalai Lama.....yes.

A lot of people can do Qigong(which have nothing to do with buddhism) and Yoga too....they are not buddhist or hindu.

Never heard Dalai Lama do any Qigong but meditation

How can anyone trust a guy who adopted the title of MASTER? Consider her money well spent if she can learn a lesson from this. But if she don't, she can donate some money to Master IZBZ

Here's another observation to follow my comment regarding Carina Herrstedt. Apparently, in Sweden being stupid is someone else's fault. OK, I've got that too.

I wonder what would happen in the world if we were all to level the same degree of criticism at ourselves instead of at others..........

It's her money. She can do what she likes with it.

That being said, the 'spiritual industry' is pretty wallstreetish, huh?

Wanna know how spiritual some org or person is?.....Follow the money!

Unable or unwilling to comprehend the scriptures and reason of their native religion, they go into the world to find flim, flam men, thieves and sexual exploiters and strange ceremonys.

Their own religion needing only faith in God's love, offering the New Testament scipture to occupy their minds and protect them from their own follies and created by Christ's Love and Sacrafice on their behalf, they rush to give their wealth, lives and bodies to foreigners who long to exploit them.

If she turns from and learns from this fraud, it will be money well spent. I recommend she read the Lutheran Confessions and find out just how enlighteded the Swededn of the Past was.

It really doesn't matter if she is owed the money then she should get it back. I hope she has the written proof to back her up so this matter can be resolved quickly.
13:17 October 15, 2010 by tadchem
Follow the paper trail. Read the loan agreement they both signed. What? There is no paperwork for the 'loan'? What kind of idiot would borrow or loan 46.2 million kronor without paperwork? Oh. THAT kind of idiot.
15:21 October 15, 2010 by MichaelZWilliamson
Qigong (chi kung) is a variant of kung fu, and has turned into a new age meditation and alternative medicine method instead of a martial art. The exercises are attributed to Bodhidharma. So yes, it is Buddhist in origin.

As tadchem asks, is there a loan document, either public or private? If so, this is easy to resolve.

I just thought one up myself:

Qikunedo:

As a variant of the famous Bruce Lee jeet kune-do, you would actually just figure it all by yourself.

You could for example combine a bit of greec-roman wrestling in to your moves and twist around the place and slam yourself on the floor or something..

And of course you could come up with weapons of your choosing, like a chainsaw, maybe. You could then perform a kata with your stihl and depending on your syle on hadling it, you would get perhaps a granmaster-degree in this.

You would truly be yourself and in contact with what you are, and all that gets bruised is you.

Qikunedo.

/Tomi
