Neo-Nazi takes seat in local Swedish council

A newly elected municipal council representative from a neo-Nazi nationalist party started his first day as an elected official in western Sweden with a lesson on the ABCs of democracy.

"Good," he said before the lesson on Thursday.
"This is totally new for me."
In the 2010 general elections, the SVP won 102 votes, or 2.8 percent, in the Grästorp municipal elections in western Sweden's Västra Götaland county, giving the party its sole seat in any elected office in Sweden.
The Party of Swedes is typically described as a neo-Nazi party and views "the current chaos" as a result of democracy. It wants to replace democracy with another governmental system.
In the meantime, Höglund intends to follow all political rules that apply to an elected city council member.
"We have ambitions in the long run," said Höglund.
The party is formerly known as the People's Front (Folkfronten) and was founded by members of the former National Socialist Front (Nationalsocialistisk front, NSF), of which Höglund was also one of the two leaders, in November 2008.
At the time it dissolved, NSF was the largest neo-Nazi political party in Sweden. It became a political party on April 20th 1999, the 110th birthday of Adolf Hitler.
The Party of Swedes' win is its first-ever in party history. The last time an extreme-right white nationalist party held elected office in Sweden was nearly 70 years ago during the Second World War.
In addition to the Party of Swedes, the Sweden Democrats also won a seat in the last election, but its seat remained empty at Thursday's meeting after the party's representative resigned.
An extremely discreet level of security was discernable outside the concert hall where the meeting was held, but no protesters were present. The meeting covered only the election. The budget and other decisions will be tabled on November 25th.

Lies. The longest serving prime minister ever in Sweden was a "nazi" up until 1969. And his party is still in office.

I tend to agree with you, except when you write "inefficient forms of government"... compared to what? What is the measurement of efficiency in the case of governments? And if Sweden and US are not efficient forms of government, all things considered, then what is?
Also I agree with you about keeping your enemies closer, although within some accepted universal human rights laws. I am not sure whether a party supporting the re-institution of slavery based on race should be allowed in the parliament for instance. Acknowledging an equal basis for all humans regardless of "race", gender and belief system should perhaps be a must for any party elected in Sweden.
And if people have common sense (which I hope Swedes have), you'll be able to vote against it.
Very astute and concise analysis. I have seen this happen in other countries - many, many times before: the powers that be screw up so badly for so long that in frustration people will lash back by supporting the exact opposite "just because" but only succeed in shooting themselves on the foot for their childish actions. Too late they realize they made a stupid mistake. It is however the whole basis of democracy, which also includes: Every idiot has the God-given right to be an idiot...
Not at all, I think I'm against everything the neonazi stand for, what they are capable of is horried, BUT because I am against them is the same reason I defend their right get voted for (which was mildly successful), Democratic process gives them the right to fight against the same system. Do I like that there are enough people to vote for them: No. Do I like what they are saying: No. Should they have a say in government: Personally I don't think so, BUT others do so our own system says we will hear it.
You gotta take the good with the distasteful when you have enought people to put them in that place of power. You don't want them? Go out and vote for someone else, that's rules.

Outside of Europe people are called Nazi and racist if they oppose the rights of indigenous people to express concern over the systematic destruction of their culture. It was the economic downturn in the beginning of the century which gave rise to these extreme right wing parties. Exactly as it is happening today with the latest economic downturn.

I don't care if SD got 300,000 votes, just take a look at the latest results in the Brazilian elections where a clown (yes a real circus clown) received 1 million votes.
In Canada, we have the same issue. No one can say anything or discuss the failure of multiculturalism without being branded a right wing idiot. What follows is the right wing groups champion the issue and they get support for it when otherwise they probably wouldnt.

Let's not forget what they did during world war two.
But, alas, what is misery and folly for one is an opportunity for another. Travelers from afar come to Sweden and see riches for the taking. They see the rot within the indigenous. They just bide their time, have their families, and take that which once belonged to another. There is no beauty or glamour in all this. It is sad to see a people die out, but I suppose that is the natural progression of inherent vice.
We all know what we witness. The extermination of a people.
