Why tell Al Gore? He pointed it out rather clearly in his movie. One symptom of climate change resulting from global warming is that certain areas will experience much colder winters. The basic idea of climate change is that the earth's ecology is a holistic system and each piece depends on the other pieces. When one piece gets out of whack, the other pieces adjust. These adjustments are expected to take the form of extreme heatwaves and droughts in some areas as well as extreme cold spells in other areas. Simple to understand, really.

Unfortunately, however - areas such as Scandinavia and the Arctic are NOT among those predicted to experience colder winters according to those scientists busy being experts on climate change.

As last weeks inconveneint data from the UN on the rate of global warming shows us - our current ideas on if & why climate change is happening are off the mark.

The global warming alarmists are also now telling us that air pollution in Asia, particularly in China, is the primary cause of the global cooling we've experienced over the last ten years. Scientists are trying to encourage operators of coal-fired generator plants to clean up their emissions so they can again set about reemphasizing that air pollution causes global warming.

Another group of these scientists has just returned from the arctic summer to tell us that polar ice is melting. They will now head to the antarctic summer to prove that the polar ice is melting there as well.

Guys and gals, if you tell me that "pollution is bad, we should do something about it" or "overfishing is dangerous and needs to be controlled", I'm apt to believe you. Don't feed me self-contradictory bullsh*t and expect me to believe it.

It's obvious God is fed up with Sweden. Worst winter in a hundred years, earthquakes, Malmo, etc.

Unfortunately the term "global warming" is too simplistic, with its implication of everywhere in the world getting hotter.

It would be more accurate to indicate that more energy is entering the system - if you do that to a refrigerator, then one part gets hotter (the back of the fridge) whereas another part gets colder (the inside).

Let us agree there is and will be climate change until there is no more climate. We can argue whether man's activities are between zero% and 100% responsible for the current 'change.' In the meanwhile, I will watch with interest to see who will be on the worldwide committee charged with the responsibility of maintaining the level of the 7 seas at optimum levels, and to see how successful the committee will be. We certainly can and should stop polluting the environment as much as we are, but there is no 'science' that can save us from what Nature will do. Science is not a thing or a group of people who agree on stuff. Science is a process of finding out how the world works, to a reasonable degree of certainty--until new facts are found to change our theories.

Forty years ago we were all warned how CFCs were creating a hole in the ozone that would cause the onset of the next ice age. More recently we've been told that carbon emissions will lead to steadily rising temperatures all over the globe (i.e. global warming). Given that the facts don't quite line up with the "science", maybe it's time to drop the dogma and consider that there may be other factors at work (e.g. changing proximity to the sun, sun spots, etc.).

Weather is not evidence of climatic trend. Weather events tell us absolutely nothing about anthropogenic influence on the climate system but weather actually is climate since climate is merely the sum of all weather events over a given period.

Al Gores movie was filled with flaws. We're experiencing cooling on the planet. There is no global warming. Never was. Being involved with atmospheric science I haven't seen the proof of any man made global warming. And I've read just about everything. Most of the science behind global warming has been heavily flawed. Keep in mind that over the past 10k years the temperature has been higher. We're cooler now. Second, the Earth would probably be better off it it was 2 to 3 degrees C warmer. We would grow more food. It's these world elites that want everyone to pay for a hoaxed science called Climate Change. Why do you think they changed the name from Global warming. If Global warming is true and is a danger to the world, and if its made by man, then why does Al Gore leave his car running in Sweden while at a climate change conference. Why does Al Gore use 4 to 6 times the electricity than the average American family? If this thing is so bad, why does Al Gore ignore it and thinks it doesn't apply to him.

How can this be possible, when 14-15,000 representatives are in Cancun, Mexico partying their tails off and working out details on saving the planet. The problem with Stockholm Sam's hypothesis (that during AGW some parts of the earth will cool, while others warm) is that it , like Freudianism, "explains everything but predicts nothing. Since there's no way to falsify or "prove" such a claim, it lies outside the realm of science.

If you take a monument to look at what the condition of the Sun is, you will notice the number of sunspots are way down for the last 2 years, and the prediction is they will go to zero by 2015, much like in the 17th century, when the ice was so thick they had fairs on the Thames river in GB.

Actually all that Sweden is experiencing is normal climate variability. The climate on the planet Earth has been warming since the end of the last ice age. Science shows us that the Sahara desert was once a much wetter than it is today, even having large lakes; please tell me how the release of CO2 into the atmosphere changed the Sahara so much. The simple fact of the matter is that AWG, as pushed by the IPCC and the news media, is simply a way to steal your money and give it to someone else, maybe. A Mini Ice Age covered most of Europe for 500 years ending about 1790, this cooling was caused by increased emission from a newly active cycle of volcanic eruptions. During this ice age period European population dropped by 20 million due to death caused by starvation brought on by crop failure. People took their babies out in the forest and left them to die because they could not feed another. The Vikings all died on Greenland. epidemics spread across the land killing millions.

Human life today is only possible because of the global warming that began in 1790, humans do well in the warm climate, they can produce food to provide for their populations. Not only should we hope for continued global warming, it is essential to the survival of man, not destructive to man.

The global warming believers would do well to read some history, and mostly recognize man survives within narrow climate limits, which, most of all, we have no control over, or ability to impact over an area as large as the earth.

Svante Arrhenius, Sweden's greatest chemist wanted to heat Sweden by increasing CO2 in the air by burning coal, but after doing a lot of research gave up saying it would not work as CO2 is a poor absorber of IR energy from sunlight. His work was published in the great German physics journal "Physique" in the late 19th century. His work proves the CO2/global warming thing is a fraud!

Some of us do know what we are talking about. I don't claim to be an expert. I did study geology and oceanology. But that really doesn't matter. the point is global warming or global cooling. both are happening at different times. the planet goes thru cycles. Co2 is essential for life. Water vapor is one of the largest that contribute to green house effect. Methane is one of the biggest green house gases. that bubbles up from the earths crust without man doing anything. dead plants and animals give off methane. Ice melts breaks off the Ice shelf and should we panic. At the same time ice is building up at the center of Antarctica. I can go on and on. Again I will say it THE SUN we can't control it or the planet . We like to think we can control everything. well wake up. or you can follow the heard like a good little sheep.

Why is Al Gore still being mentioned in the same sentence as global warming. He is just an opportunist that took advantage of the phenomenon to make some money and fame.

The global warming/climate change people promoting the climate change product is not presenting the product properly... They are attempting to shove it down everybody's throat. Do the they really think that the opposition hates the planet or dream of it's destruction? Instead, why don't they call for a transparent hearing for the world to see so that everyone can present their case and calmly look at the evidence. Then people can decide if it indeed has merit.

Whenever anybody wants me to "buy it now" or advertises "it's only available today", all my suspicions come alive. No wonder the climate change gang is having a hard time selling the science. The supporters should also refrain from calling people who are not willing to send their money to people they don't know, stupid. On the contrary, I think they are courageous.

If this is climate change. Why is it the coldest temps since 1965? Was it Climate change in 1965 as well? It just goes so show there is no trend. The "scientist take a million data points and use 50 to create a trend that supports their beliefs. We've have some pretty extreme weather in the last couple hundred years.

And all the left wingers that go on about how religion is terrible and science is great. They seem to never support real science. If you supported real science you wouldn't believe we are causing climate change and you wouldn't have a problem with GMO crops.

I don't think you will find very many people who will deny climate variations. What the argument should focus on is the cause. What is the explanation for the surface temperature of planets, like Mars, increasing at a rate equal to or greater than was is reported on Earth? Could it be a natural cause? Could it also be a natural cause that we are seeing here on Earth?

So much 'tongue in cheek' commentary about global warming ... you seem to forget that Sweden also had one of the hottest summers on record this year ... below average temperatures are a consequence of global warming ... do your research instead of wasting space.

I wonder how you climate change skeptics would feel if someone who knows nothing about your area of expertise pontificated about your area of expertise like you are doing about something that you know little or nothing about. Why even bother with education when you who are uneducated in climate science somehow claim that your opinion is valid whereas extensive scientific studies made by people who understand climate science far more than you are invalid?

Most of you are doing what U.S. conservatives do when they fear that something might impinge on their "freedom": attack the messenger, promote an example that supports their worldview as if extrapolating from a specific example to a general conclusion is valid (it's not), etc. If you can't support your view with valid scientific arguments, then your views are pure rubbish and nothing but your uneducated opinions. If you, instead, practiced responsibility, you could avoid what you fear the most which is some higher authority limiting your irresponsible behavior. "Freedom" without "responsibility" will not make this world a better place when there are now billions of people whose irresponsible behaviors are changing the climate.

I have a Ph.D. in chemistry, so I understand how the scientific process works. Comments made by many of you indicate that you don't have a clue. I also worked for 3 years at probably the premier climate research center in the world, the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), in Boulder, CO. But climate change is not my expertise, so I won't second-guess climate scientists as you are doing.

What I find is amazing that anyone would think that the rapid increase in the population of humans who exhale CO2, the rapid reduction in CO2-absorbing plants caused by humans' clearing of vast forests, the huge increase in the numbers of greenhouse-gas-producing livestock for human consumption, the rapid release of CO2 by the burning of petroleum and coal which had removed CO2 from the atmosphere over millions of years, and other huge changes that humans have and are continuing to make at an ever-increasing pace would have no negative effects on the climate.

We should fear any rapid change in our climate as is now occurring. But when its predominate cause is human activity, we have the power to solve the problem. If rapid climate change was caused by a natural event like a large meteor impact, we would be almost powerless. The U.S. is being left behind by countries like Sweden and China who are developing and selling technologies to increase the world's energy efficiency, something that everyone should support.

You who deny something that you don't understand should be ashamed of yourselves because you are endangering not us, so much, but our descendants. I suspect that you really care only about yourselves and you don't really care about what you leave for your descendants to deal with.

That's the fantastic thing about "climate change" (an idiotic name to start with: climate changes over time by definition...the climate in Europe today is not the same it was 200 years ago) Too hot? Climate change. Too cold? Climate change. Too wet? Climate change. Too dry? Climate change!

What really annoys many of us is the egregious position of the UK Met Office. There are only a few computer models for the climate, and the Met Office's model is one of them, arguably the main one. These models drive the Warmist/Alarmist fear-mongering by dint of their predictions, looking 10, 50 or 100 years ahead. Yet the Met Office's climate model is (by the Met Office's own admission) essentially the same one that produces the medium-term forecasts -- but they have ceased to publish their medium-term forecasts because they have proved to be so inaccurate. The Met Office can't even model the climate a few months ahead yet they expect us to trust them to model it a hundred years ahead. It's as if they had never heard of Chaos Theory.

Why are so many 'climate change' proponents assuming that those who dispute the cause of climate variation think that there is denial of variation? I don't think anyone is against preserving the quality of enviornment by pollution controls. But that position does not mean that the variation seen and predicted is primarily due to our doing.

Actually, in the south of Europe there are ridiculously warm temperatures for December. So no matter if you call it "global warming" or "climate change", definitely the weather conditions went mad!

This is really bad news for the 'Global Warming Conference' going on right now in Cancun, Mexico, sort of like what happened last year at the 'Global Warming Conference' in Oslo, Norway, when an ice blizzard caused the conference to end early. What about that poor UN Weather Agency that just prognosticated that future weather around the world would now see scorching heat as routine. Those poor 'UN Barterers' of 'Carbon Based Gas Credits' just have no luck at all, this report will cut their profits in half. The Chicago, Illinois 'Carbon Based Gas Credit Exchange' had to close down from the negative publicity of the ice blizzard at the 'Global Warming Conference' in Oslo Norway of last year, I wonder how many other 'Carbon Based Gas Credit Exchanges' will have to close down around the world because of this report? There goes the spreading of the wealth from the developed countries to the under-developed countries, right down the old drain.
