Agnetha Fältskog open to Abba reunion: report

Swedish singer Agnetha Fältskog has revealed that she is open to reuniting with supergroup Abba in a detailed recent magazine interview.

The famously reclusive star has not yet consulted her former bandmates about the possibility of reuniting with the group, she said in a lengthy interview with M Magazine.

However, she wants to meet with former husband Björn Ulvaeus and former couple Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Reuß von Plauen to discuss the possibility of performing together again, Expressen reported on Sunday.

"A reunion, an occasional opportunity, maybe in connection with a charity event, I believe we could consider it," she told M Magazine, according to Expressen.

"We would not reunite for a tour like the Rolling Stones and other old bands do now. However, I could see us doing something together in the future. It is just a feeling I have that it would be fun to get together, talk a bit about the past and maybe perform together," Fältskog told the magazine.

The group split in 1983, three years after Fältskog and Ulvaeus finalised their divorce.

Benny Andersson, commenting the prospect of a reunion in March, clearly stated that a reunion was out of the question.

Fältskog said that she is not in contact with the other band members, but the group members have stepped out together in recent years.

In July 2008, the four members stood together on the balcony of Stockholm's Rival Theatre, which is owned by Andersson, for the Swedish premiere of the movie Mamma Mia! Fältskog arrived with Reuss, formerly known as Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and movie star Meryl Streep.

The occasion marked the first time all four members were photographed together in 22 years.

Separately, for the launch of the Abba World exhibition in Australia, Fältskog recorded an opening film with Andersson in June. In addition, Fältskog appeared at the opening of the Mamma Mia! musical in Copenhagen with Ulvaeus in October.

The group last worked in 1982 to record six songs intended for a new album that was never completed.

This would be a Very Positive thing for not only fans, but for Sverige as well.

A Charity or Benefit concert would be a Very Nice gesture.

Just a thought, but Perhaps like the remaining Beatles did a few years ago, they could finish up those uncompleted tracks and release a "Special" Limited Edition release of the Unreleased album from 1983 : - )

I think a one time charity event would be awesome. I am hoping she will think about doing one more cd maybe even a song or two with Frida now that would be awesome as well.

I like you Agnetha

If this lovely lady's special voice is in good shape; why not? It has been missed and many would enjoy hearing it again in some way. (The same for Anni-Frid...)

What a nice thing to look forward to. Let's hope it comes about :)

But what has happened to her face? She used to be much prettier in the early 70s.

I bet you did too!

Its called ageing

I'm for it if they write and perfom some new stuff suitable for their age; master song writers like Alveus and Andersson will always write something interesting.

If they are just going to rehash their seventies material, or worse sing the old stuff exactly as it was; then no. We have a thousand cover bands to do that, and some of them are really good.

Still looks bloody good for her age

I know that when they get back togeather and perform that it will be wonderful, the "Magic in a Song" will be back; especially since no one has ever been able to duplicate what they did. I would love so very much to be at thier reunion performance. Thier music touched everyone's hearts all over the world. I love Agnetha's idea about reviewing thier memories togeather and where they are now and singing again. "Thank You for the Music" again and "I Have a Dream" once more.

I agree with #10; one or two new songs for charity or nothing at all. I'd bet their life experiences to this point and the abilities that they all have as artists would make a couple of incredible new tunes that wouldn't tarnish the memory of what they've already done.

Who wants to see or hear a bunch of old farts......
22:12 December 28, 2010 by dizzymoe33
@Glo, I would because they are talented individuals not like the Diva's of today who don't know how to handle themselves properly.

What a great re- union it would be if their voices are still in good shape. Agnetha is still so unbelievably beautiful.
06:01 December 29, 2010 by JoeSwede
It would be nice for acharity. Hopefully they'll film it.
07:24 December 29, 2010 by marshins
If they got back together they would have to have new material appropriate for their age. I say BRING IT ON!!!! Have a look at other bands and how much worse off they look, (the rolling stones) as one example and how they keep rehashing their old songs.
09:50 December 29, 2010 by philster61
Not sure what to think about a reunion. As Bjorn and Benny said. We were young then. Now we are older. People might want to remember us as we were. Although on the other hand its not as if we don't know what they look like today. If the music is tight and they can pull it off. Why not? What would be sad if one of them passed away before it happened.

"Who wants to see a bunch of old farts"

Same people who see the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney etc. who by the way are the highest grossing live acts as well as legends.

Now a-days music is just plain bad, with bad lyrics. They just dont make music

like they use too in the good ol days. (GO ABBA)

I'd love to see the four of them back up on stage again. I still have a special fondness for Agnetha that developed about 35 years ago. Anyone know if she's currently married?

I think it would be awesome for abba to do some music again. I was listening to abba during the most important years of my life here in california. We were young at the same time and going through the same things like love and loss. So I totally relate to abba. The abba sound is awesome. And I still am in love with Agnetha. Wow. She is still beautiful. Agnetha probably does not know how she has effected so many in such a good way. Her beauty and innocence prevails. Please make music again Agnetha. You are so awesome.

You can search by names or locations to find old photos and documents relating to whatever you’re interested in. This image is from a 1960’s short film called “Ditt Stockholm” (“Your Stockholm”).
