The boss of the Swedish Postcode Lottery (Postkodlotteriet) earned close to three million kronor ($450,000) more in wages and bonuses than was previously declared, it was revealed on Monday.

According to the lotto company, a large portion of this money came from previous years' bonuses.

Postcode Lottery CEO Niclas Kjellström-Matseke made 5.7 million kronor ($850,000) in 2009; three million kronor ($450,000) more than the company had previously announced according to the Dagen Industri newspaper.

The company refuted claims that they had misled the public over the CEO's wage packet.

"It has been suggested that we have hidden the facts, which isn't the case. We have year on year accounting for the money received by our CEO," Fredrik Skärheden, the lotto's press secretary told the TT news agency.

He pointed out that bonuses are given retrospectively and are paid out at the beginning of the following year.

The Swedish Postcode Lottery has received criticism that despite the business model of being a market driven charity, less than half of their proceeds go to charity.

Scam. Shut it down.

Is there not some type of law in Sweden where a charitable organization has to donate a minimum amount/percentage of their total earnings to charity? Because "less than half of their proceeds go to charity" well that seems a bit ridiculous, if the company is claiming they are a charitable business operation. And in Sweden do charitable organizations/business, do they get tax breaks?

what do u expect with any kind of gambling!? there will be scams where they can get away with it!

but is there no government "watch dog" to police these sort of activities?

What's most surprising is that a Swedish company has given a decent job to a black man. Sweden is not really know for its equality in this regard unless the job is cleaning the streets or toilets. And the fact that he is overpaid makes it even more eye-opening.

Is Sweden finally joining the 21st Century after years of bigotry? I do hope so.

This guy is no different to the rest of the other fat cat scum running around telling everyone they are raising funds to give to the misfortunate. These people do everything they can to dig their greedy little fingers into other people's money.

Scams like this should be boycotted.

The real charity workers who give up their free time to help others and really make a difference, get nothing!

@ Fredlocks

Are you living Sweden? Obviously it's going to be easier if you are 3rd/4th generation (possibly 2nd) immigrant, but there are several non-ethnic Swedes that I know holding key business organisational positions.

Apart from the obvious Trolls on here (with the suspiciously pro-Israel, Sweden-hating views) - there seems to be a lot of double standards about judging Sweden and naivety about the realities of going to a new country, with it's own language and expecting instant career success.

Anyone here actually read about the company before posting comments? http://www.postkodlotteriet.se/

A rough standard is that between 80-85% of the proceeds a charity receives should be provided to the charities it supports!

Less than 50% suggests, in the very least, a poorly run operation, and expenses that far exceed what is generally acceptable.

Doesn't Sweden require that the all of its charities file annual reports that provide transparency into ALL their expenses, salaries and other expenses?

..."Doesn't Sweden require that the all of its charities file annual reports that provide transparency into ALL their expenses, salaries and other expenses?"...

How do you think the discussion started regarding his salary and bonuses? The latest accounts have been filed - with full transparency.

If you visit their website - you can read all about the organisation, the profit and non-profit structure and how they operate.

From what I see there is an association and a commercial arm - which is a full commercial entity, an AB.

The site specifically say, "PostkodLotteriet är inte: en välgörenhetsorganisation..."

The postcode lottery is not: a charitable organisation.

Faktum är, jag är en invandrare.

With a real foreign background and a real CV with real foreign qualifications and jobs overseas and in Sweden.

Frankly if your Swedish is as bad as your English - I can fully see where your problems are.If it is so bad, an sfi course or even google translate might be a good start.
