Blizzards ahead for much of Sweden

Heavy snowfall is expected throughout Sweden today and on Friday, and a Class 1 weather warning, the lowest on a three-grade scale, has now been issued for large parts of the country by SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological Institute.

A Class 1 warning indicates weather that may present certain risks to the public, with some disruption.

Southern Sweden is expected to receive around a decimeter of snow, and in central parts of the country, as much as 15 centimeters of snow may fall today.

SMHI also warns that all areas north of Jämtland, a region in the north of Sweden will be hit by strong winds, with rain and drifting snow.

The meteorological institute has issued a Class 2 weather warning, indicating possible danger to the public, for the region of Västernorrland, in the north of Sweden, where heavy snowfall is expected to cause snow drifts.

With all of this cold weather, is there anyone in Sweden that still believes the myth of human-caused global warming or climate change?

Global warming message cooked

Editorials

By John Coward

Posted 16 hours ago

As winters get harsher and the snow piles up, more and more scientists are now warning of global cooling. That's the message that more and more scientists want to get out as the global warming message slowly disappears from the mainstream media stage.

On his website "NoTricksZone" Peter Gosselin lays out a list of 31 international scientists in the fields of climate and meteorology who disagree with AGW science (man-caused global warming) and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change forecasts, and are projecting much cooler weather for the next one to three decades.

"Expect global cooling for the next two to three decades that will be far more damaging than global warming would have been," says Don Easterbrook, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Geology, Western Washington University. Easterbrook points out that 30-year cooling trends in the past including 1945-1977, 1880-1915 and 1790-1820 are similar to trends that the earth could face in the next 30 years.

Dr. Noel Keenlyside from the Leibniz Institute says a new computer model developed by German researchers, reported in the journal Nature, suggests the cooling will counter greenhouse warming.

Dr. Alexander Frolov, Head of Russia's state meteorological service Rosgidromet said that, "From the scientific point of view, in terms of large scale climate cycles, we are in a period of cooling. The last three years of low temperatures in Siberia, the Arctic and number of Russia mountainous regions prove that, as does the recovery of ice in the Arctic Ocean and the absence of warming signs in Siberia."

As more global warming sceptics emerge with data that contradicts the IPCC's claim that CO2 is the culprit causing global warming, media coverage of the "devastating effects of greenhouse gases" on everything from floods to famine is waning. No longer are we seeing the daily doom-and-gloom scenarios coming from the media that the oceans are rising, the Arctic sea ice disappearing, glaciers melting or the sky is falling.

An analysis of DailyClimate.org's archive of global media coverage showed that "journalists published 23,156 climate-related stories in English last year — a 30 per cent drop from '09's tally."

Those stories came from 8,710 different reporters, columnists and editorial writers at 1,552 different media outlets. Last year, according to the website's database, more than 11,000 reporters tackled the subject — a 22 per cent drop for 2010.

Robert Brulle from Drexel University has been analysing network news coverage on climate change since 1980 says the cycle of media interest in climate change has run its course, and "this story is no longer considered newsworthy."

Since the frenzy following the leaked emails from the University of East Anglia in England during the Copenhagen Conference the media is increasingly avoiding the topic. The most recent gab fest in Cancun, Mexico drew limited media interest. Maybe its just the cold weather that's keeping them away.

Please don't confuse me facts.. Good news, I am becoming more and more efficient at shovelling snow..

I read some years ago about the next cooling period, and the coming next Ice Age.

Whether CO2 is a factor in the heat-related events in the past decade or so is immaterial in the face of a thirty-year cooling period that precedes a New Ice Age.

I prefer cold to hot, and dry to muggy, and snow in the winter for skiing, hiking, and mountain climbing, so a thirty-year cooling cycle is fine with me.

Haven't you heard? Global cooling is caused by global warming, according to the environmentalist sect.

Don't confuse them with facts.

You global warming deniers really mystify me. You seem to all be cut from the same cloth of ignoramuses who absolutely knew that the sun goes around the earth (it's so obvious, just look at the sky!). Unfortunately, your ignorance carries a bigger penalty this go around.

"Direct observations find that CO2 is rising sharply due to human activity. Satellite and surface measurements find less energy is escaping to space at CO2 absorption wavelengths. Ocean and surface temperature measurements find the planet continues to accumulate heat. This gives a line of empirical evidence that human CO2 emissions are causing global warming."
