The explosion at a post terminal in Borlänge in central Sweden on Wednesday morning was caused by a fire extinguisher, Dalarna police have confirmed.

The explosion caused a the terminal to fill with smoke and left several people covered in white dust. Around 30 affected staff were given treatment to counter anthrax, but the whole episode turned out to be a false alarm caused by a power extinguisher.

"The best thing is that it all turn out for the good," said Dalarna police spokesperson Sven Åke Petters to reporters.

"There were eight people in the premises to begin with, but before the police arrived and the location was sealed off there were several more who had arrived, including emergency personnel," said deputy county medical officer Astrid Danielsson.

Police received an alarm over the explosion at 8.20am on Wednesday morning. The premises filled with smoke and the white powder filled the air, Petters told The Local earlier on Wednesday.

Dalarna police led the investigation into the explosion although the Security Service followed developments after having been informed of the incident.

Borlänge post terminal is operated by Posten, formerly Sweden's postal monopoly, and serves the county of Dalarna. The terminal was evacuated after the incident to allow for police forensics to conduct an examination.

@ Truthgate

Haha....lets wait and see. I am surprised the comments have not come pouring in here. Our noble whip lash tongues are not awake yet.

It's pretty telling that even those on the left are suspecting it's part of the asylum seeker/refugee crew, isn't it?
11:07 February 2, 2011 by mir81
And once again Immigrants and Muslim will be the main culprit of this event .......

Now be ready to face the blame guys :D
11:44 February 2, 2011 by big5
It could just as well be organized crime/ motorcycle gangs.
12:38 February 2, 2011 by calebian22
It might be the toothfairy as well, but I doubt it.
12:39 February 2, 2011 by Huh?!!
No, I'm sure it's just some disgruntled customer who had to return some product on their own expense, couldn't get a refund or new replacement & just sending it back with a "up yours"!! LOL!
12:45 February 2, 2011 by big5
@calebian22

Organized crime is a likely explanation. Just as islamic extremism is a likely explanation. Assuming that it really was a parcel bomb.
12:47 February 2, 2011 by kenny8076
you people are so wierd.......and i guarantee WILL NOT be back here writing when they do find out it was immigrants. Let me ask you people this. Swedes are believed by the rest of the world to be extremely peaceful, relaxed, trust worthy people.........The majority immigrants and asylum seekers are from torn middle eastern country's with string ties to extremism. Their signature trade mark is blowing stuff up.

LOL you people get on here........ and try to suggest the first reaction shouldn't be when theres an explosion that it comes from immigrants?!?!

@TRUTHGATE i hope its NOT the immigrants AS USUAL.
12:53 February 2, 2011 by UScitizen
@truthgate & @silver

I thought the same thing.... if the media doesn't blame the immigrants, the usual batch of Local readers will. So let's put a funny spin on it.... if people here can laugh at themselves : I thought Swedes were used to getting bombed. Or is that just on the weekends?
14:11 February 2, 2011 by Syftfel
I agree we should not blame the immigrants. It is however a good speculative bet, based on history, that it has to do with islam. I don't know of any other group who would be in the habit of resorting to such actions. - Wait! It could be the samis.
14:32 February 2, 2011 by Swedesmith
Probably just some over-ripe surströmming.
14:35 February 2, 2011 by calebian22
Big5,

Indeed it could be. However, the smart money is on one that Säpo didn't count in the 200 known extremists in Sweden before Christmas. 201.
15:04 February 2, 2011 by Åskar
@Swedesmith

No, it was a fire extinguisher.
15:07 February 2, 2011 by Juan Harry Bush
Yep, This was expected. What next?
19:14 February 2, 2011 by Zala Russe
Forget Anthrax. The 'white dust' was quite clearly heroin, designed to enslave its recipients into mindless obesience to the Will of Allah. Today I saw an immigrant sneeze. Proof positive that we are under attack from germ warfare.

Well, for me it is always fun to read the comments more than the local news :P

Even though governments represent the nation, still, I just pray, that the governments of every nation aren't stupid as the nation itself.

Otherwise, considering the "WISE" people representing the two sides (for immigrants, against immigrants) here in TheLocal, I guess Sweden would have been going through political crisis, internal wars etc. right now!
04:57 February 3, 2011 by NoVaseline
ok...a moslem or a nigga was smoking a joint and then he left it there without putting off. soon after....a big bang! Some of you think this is what has happened?
07:59 February 3, 2011 by big5
Quoting myself from post #8 "Assuming that it really was a parcel bomb."

And as it turns out, it wasn't. Fire extinguisher, accidental discharge.
08:07 February 3, 2011 by calebian22
What caused the fire extinguisher to "explode?" Or was it fika gone bad with someone playing, look at my exploding hose? Either way, it seems odd that this was initially reported as an "explosion."
09:02 February 3, 2011 by big5
Journalists love a story.
09:30 February 3, 2011 by Rick Methven
Absolutely wonderful!!

Yet again we have the usual suspects going off half cocked on their blame it on immigrants tirades, without a shadow of proof.

And what was the explosion?

A faulty fire dry powder fire extinguisher that exploded with a big bang showering a few people with its powder.

Ravioli and his mates must be hoping that subsequent investigation is going to prove that the man who made the extinguisher was an immigrant - Muslim of course who deliberately sabotaged it during its production.

My money is on metal fatigue. The extinguisher was most probably past its use by date and Posten's local building inspector is going to get into trouble for not spotting it.

My on-topic comment deleted but Rick Muslim's comment stays. Hilarious.
