Swedish forced marriage laws 'not strong enough'

Published: 17 Feb 11 17:40 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/32114/20110217/

Swedish laws against forced marriages and child marriages are not effective, the country's migration board stated in a report to the government on Wednesday.

Sweden's Equality Minister Nyamko Sabuni agrees with Sweden's National Migration Board's (Migrationsverket) assessment, saying that new laws are needed.

The board's director general Dan Eliasson compiled data on forced and child marriages for the first time at the request of the government.

After examining the number of forced, child and proxy marriages that occurred from September to December last year, the agency has observed a number of shortcomings.

For example, it is evident that current legislation does not specify that a person who wants to come to Sweden to marry or cohabitate with a partner must be at least 18.

"The results of the report very much confirms what I have feared," Sabuni told news agency TT on Thursday.

She pointed out that this is the first time that the Migration Board has undertaken this kind of survey.

"I think that it is important to continue to work in this area to get more and better knowledge about how honour culture-based relationships affect individuals," said Sabuni.

For example, the board sees a risk that under current practices, underage girls who are pregnant can obtain residence permits through a loophole in the law, creating a situation "where young girls are forced to become pregnant."

In the last four months of 2010, the board handled two applications for permanent residency from individuals who were involved in forced marriages with Swedish residents, five cases concerning child marriage, two of which were forced, and 29 so-called proxy marriages.

In total, the board dealt with 53 cases of cases concerning marriages with minors, forced marriages and proxy marriages. There were 19 arranged marriages, of which five were also proxies and two involved minors.

"One cannot say whether they have increased in recent years, but the statistics confirm the picture we have had that there is a problem there," Johan Rahm, the board's press director, told the Siren News Agency on Wednesday.

The applications also involved both overseas men seeking residency with women or girls resident in Sweden. In addition to Swedes, the citizenships of those highlighted in the report included countries in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America and eastern Europe as well as stateless and unknown individuals.

The Migration Board is also calling for new rules on forced marriages. Under current rules, it can be difficult for the board to reject an application for a residence permit even though the sponsor does not want the spouse to come to Sweden.

"We cannot reject an application and not tell the applicant why. It has become such a catch-22 situation, we wonder how the government wants to handle it," said Rahm.

Dilemma.

On one hand, the most peaceful and moral religion in the world representatives are buying themselves a child slave that they could rape and beat without her ever opening her mouth.

On the other hand, perhaps some of these girls are escaping a certain death or a short life as prostitute in the place she was born and refusing her immigration would be practically shooting her in the head.

Especially if officially she is already married by the highly ethical imams. Hell, Mohammad himself was married to a 6 y/o (although officially he got her when she reached the ripe age of 9).

As usual, any decision here is to harm the victims or to harm the victims to which a long term solution would be to close the borders for the MEN out of these wonderful countries first of all.

Are you needing information so you can try it? Good luck.
09:26 February 18, 2011 by loudasthunder
Well, it seems there are some laws being broken here.

Is the female under age, and is the man over the age limit to be prosecuted for unlawful sex with a minor. That's one loop- hole solved.

At least the Swedish government is admiting there is a problem with at least this part of the immigrantion policy. Now they need to address the rest of the issues, that being better security screening on possible, more than likely Terrorist...

Spot-on comment : )

@ Boyfriend

Well, a lot of Scandinavian women take in muslim men,( I use the word 'men' in place of 'Dog' ), marry them, have kids with them and then divorce them. Then they are allowed to stay in Sweden to send for their 'real' wife and kids in the middle east. Now the whole family is here to take advantage of the Swedish welfare system. Just like You are...

Your Not Welcomed in Sweden, ask around, an honest Scandinavian will agree that Your type of immigrant is inconveinent to the civilized world.

@Loudasthunder

First i do not think you are from Sweden and second Sweden is enjoying of all these immigrants by giving no JOB and using them all as Practicant which means most of 90% of them work for free. If you ever come to Sweden you would notice it.

I Know you are hurt because I am against these kind of marriages.

Well Mr civilized I hope you and your other so called "civilized" guys stop importing Thai and Russian young girls and if you do that is ok, but do not torture them that would make you civilized LOL

Most European men who look for girlfriends or wives, that are not European ("white"), fall into three categories:

1)Well off, confident, age mid-50's; has possibly never been married, looking for a woman with an actual body and dark skin (melanin); many of these men marry younger South American women or women from Russia. Dislikes the European female attitude. Usually not Swedish male

2)Average income, not so confident, possibly has been married a few times, looking for a meek woman who has been taught to idealize European culture; Asian woman (China, Taiwan, or Thailand )are his main target group, although he is know to search for Eastern European women also. The women these men select or make themselves available to them, usually resemble men with hair; little sexual dimorphism is necessary.

3)European male loser in his own culture, age 30-60, possible pedophile, can not attract the average Swedish woman. Preys on Asian woman who are one decade out of prostitution or he may have bought her services in her home country and decided to bring her back to Sweden

Categories 2 and 3 are prominent in Sweden.

A bigger problem would be the "utlanka Hallickar" (foreign Pimp's) in Sweden. For example, let's imagine a young, rich, lonely and sexually frustrated Swedish woman who travels to New York for companionship and meets a young tall Black "player" who turns her out. This same Black male then comes to Sweden after she pleads with him (since he will not marry her so that she can become an American citizen and stay) but he later marries a Black woman from America, after he acquires dual citizenship.

Although, the Swedish woman usually does not feel used, indeed, she is grateful for the experience. I still see this as a growing problem.

Unfortunately Sabuni is up against a leftwinb cabal of liberals, socialists, misguided lefty rabble rousers twisting themselves into hypocritical pretzels, and scheming islamists who, in their false wisdom, think that by allowing forced marriages you're doing a service to Swedish society or are taking steps to turn Sweden in to a Nordic kaliphate. These people from the religion of perpetual outrage are using the ineffective laws as nothing less than a trojan horse for muslimn tripumphalism. Change the laws now!! Deport those who are unwilling to comply.

@Boyfriend

I Live here in Sweden, The only negative thing is having to breath the same air as the 'FAKE' asylum seekers looking to start up terrorist cell groups, as we all experienced back in december in Stockholm. This will continue as long as Sweden keeps a blind eye and allows yet more into Sweden.

I meant the Swedish Migration NEEDS to Send the Muslim Terrorists back to where they came from !!!
15:03 February 18, 2011 by Syftfel
@Methven: You are revealing your true colors by going after my spelling mistakes instead of the real issues. Remember in this forum we critize ideas, not individual contributors. I can only assume that you are embarrased over what I write, and that it hit a tender spot. It is your kind of attack on ancillary issues that signals that you kind of do not like what I had to say, and which is so typical of the leftist riff-raff and others with ulterior agendas. I rest my case.
15:25 February 18, 2011 by Rick Methven
@Syftfel

"I rest my case"

What case?

You, like the rest of your ilk on the local who spout verbal diarrhoea, just string together loads of words such as your

"leftwinb cabal of liberals, socialists, misguided lefty rabble rousers"

in an attempt to be insulting.

All it does is to confirm to any reader, with a modicum of intelligence, that you and the rest of the SD supporters around here have a combined IQ of 2
16:28 February 18, 2011 by Syftfel
Well Metheven, the readers can make up their own minds. Or do you prefer that they didn't? Maybe you wish to TELL them how they should think? There is nothing wrong with 'verbal" diarreah. That's all for the good in an open democracy. Your diarreah however, is of an enitirely different kind, and probably something you should keep in private a small room behind a locked door. Don't forget to flush!
