Green Party support declines: poll

Sweden's Green Party dropped almost 3 percent in the latest Sifo opinion poll published on Sunday, although the gap between the blocs declined somewhat.

The party, one of the major success stories at the September general election, fell back 2.6 percentage points to poll 7.7 percent in Sifo's voter barometer for February, published in the Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) daily on Sunday.

"Some Green Party voters have probably gone to the Social Democrats and some into the uncertain category. Over the past month the party has been invisible in the debate and they are also about to change spokespersons," said Toivo Sjörén at Sifo to SvD.

The Social Democrats increased by 2.4 percentage points to 30.2 percent, but the change is not statistically significant. For other parties, the changes are small.

Alliance parties get together 49.3 percent and the Red-Green 43.3. Alliance lead shrinks thus from 7.7 percentage points to 6.

For the remainder of the parties in Sweden, the polls reflected few changes with the the Sweden Democrats falling back 0.5 percent and the Christian Democrats and Centre parties remaining below their election results.

Sifo poll results, February 2011 (changes from January 2011 in parentheses)

Government
Moderate Party 33.4 (-0.5)
Centre Party 5.1 (+0.4)
Liberal Party 6.5 (-0.6)
Christian Democrats 4.3 (-0.1)

Total: 51.7 (Election 2006: 48.2)

Opposition
Social Democrats 30.2 (+2.4)
Left Party 5.4 (+1.1)
Green Party 7.7 (-2.6)

Total: 42.0 (Election 2006: 46.1)

Sweden Democrats 6.4 (-0.5)
Others 1.2 (+0.6)

Sifo asked 1917 people which party they would vote for if the election were held today. Interviews were conducted on February 7th to 17th.

This is a party that supports unlimited immigration from Africa and the middle east at the same time we have a welfare state (fri invandring), they support amnesty for illegal immigrants, they support higher petrol taxes, they want to abolish our nuclear power plants (that produce 50% of all our electricity), they want positive discrimination for immigrants (discrimination against swedes) and have written in ads that they want the western heterosexual male to "step aside from power" in Sweden.

This party also wants to abolish prison as a form of punishment for criminals and only use "rehabilitation". Only a crazy person would vote for this party, the only reason people vote for this party is because it has the word "Miljö" (environment) in its name.

This party is the opposite of the Sweden democrats party, most of the voters of this party are ignorant of how extremist this party is. Most of their voters are naive women in big cities who knows nothing of the world other then what they have read in universities.

This party is typical of swedes ingnorance to reality.

The numbers in support dropping for this party is a good sign for preserving this country from unwanted mass immigration : )

Well, I don't know anyting about politics here. I guess most commenters on The Local think I don't know of anything about anything. So. I guess I'll mane one of the usual flippant comments:

The picture? Seems like he's trying not to stare! The color white got my immediate attention.

UScitizen: Same here, what a delightful pair. If only the guy weren't in the picture.

I have only recently come to Sweden, but it seems to me that Swedish politics isn't much more functional than U.S. politics, and that's saying something. True, over here they actually do get to choose from a range of parties with differences that might really matter, but political correctness apparently has so stifled debate, media, and population that it's nearly impossible to represent a good part of the political spectrum.

I am certain this 2.6% drop had absolutely nothing to do with the Green's announcement last month they would widen imigration into Sweden to include family members, whether they could be financially supported or not.

Sad really as the Greens do highlight some valid concerns but they have no real affective solution and I feel they are somewhat detached from reality. If they get themselves down from the clouds to the real world they would represent our best hope for the future.

I'm quite fine with green, so long as the brown get's flushed!

Yes, those in the white are a nice huge pair, looks like more than a handful : )
