Pal, nobody's denying that some non-etnic Swedes are guilty of rape, but the vast majority of rapes are still committed by people that the suspect has some sort of relationship with, and the majority of those are committed by white ethnic Swedes.

The attacks against the Sweden Democrats on this site are so vicious that one cannot but be appalled. My reaction is, of course, to double my support for this party.

How is it possible to blame a political party for a conviction (being appealed) by one of its members, a local councilman? And why don't we hear even one word of praise for his honourable act of resigning his post?

The SD rise is a result of the recession and protest voting, the same phenomenon that occurred in the early to mid-90s in the case of a very similar party, the New Democrats. Once the economy improved the party folded.

SD polled, what?..5% of the vote? Hardly a popular movement. And the hard core of SD ARE bigots and ex-Nazis. Some of their gullible voters may not be.

The vast majority of SD voters don't come into contact with any immigrants at all in their daily lives, ungrateful or otherwise, as I do every day of the week. And I can tell you in the mixed area that I live there is no ethnic tension whatsoever and the immigrants contribute just as much as the Swedes. The same applies to the vast majority of Sweden.

This story is manna from heaven for all socialists and other lefty riff-raff looking for any shred of a misstep spewing venom over SD. Relevant or not. A pattern seems to be emerging.

In the run up to the election, the party hierarchy kept the members under strict control so as not to blow their election chances. Now there are a growing number that are showing their true spots, resulting in the party having to do continuous damage control and expel members. In most parties it is normally those in elected positions that have to 'control' the rank and file. In the case of SD it is those elected officials who need controlling

If the SDs show that their true colors are facist, racist and other ists, then I would hope that they would not be re-elected. Most Swedes that I know are pretty level headed. However, I do believe that there is room for discussion on the issue of immigration and that is what (I hope) the SD party brings to the table.

I agree that the question of immigration needs to be discussed, the question is, are the SD capable of discussing it rationally? Their sole platform is hate that is not based on rationality and only make demands rather than open discussion. Any rational person can see that throwing out all immigrants from a particular region or religion is never going to happen, which makes any discussing with SD a non starter as that s their demand and the basis that they got into parliament.

What is needed is for the mainstream parties to take their heads from the sand and open the discussion. Once they do that, the SD will become superfluous to requirements and like all their ilk fade away.

Why is it that Swedish politicians are held to such Puritanical standards of morality? They are people too. They make mistakes. They drink, copulate, and fight like everyone. Look at Berlesconi's Caliguan court and hell, about half the folks there still love him and their is no talk of expelling him from his party. Even when Clinton's enemies came after him (not cause they are Puritans but just pure politics) his party never spoke of expelling him. How the hell would want to stick his neck out here and be a politician knowing how little loyalty you get from your party? No wonder the politicians here are a bunch of do gooders.

@Swedesmith: Can we condemn the ideology of the party? SD's ideology is mostly driven by xenophobic and ultra-nationalist sentiment. It's divisive and certainly not promoting humanistic values.

Without SD, there would be no immigration conversation. The Sweden Democrats may be a bit simplistic in their approach, but what other party in power is discussing the elephant in the room? Ignore them today, fine. Don't cry when they reach non-ignorable percentages in 2014. 10-15% will be a king maker.

As for you, Scambaiter, so your anectodal evidence trumps mine? Your experience is very different than mine has been. The friendliest Swedes to me since I arrived have been Sweden Democrats. Wonderful liberals were willing to hire me for non paying internships (slavery) but an SD hired me as if I was a Swede. Most of the refugee types I have met are wastes of space with massive chips on their shoulders. Sweden has given them so much in their time of need and they still complain.

As for well rooted traditions, just as trees with roots, they can be uprooted if the force is strong enough. SD is attempting to preserve the lifestyle that to this point has made Sweden so attractive to immigrants and refugees. Integration is not an equal two way street. The newcomers must change a lot more than the hosts. Most of the newcomers like you don't agree.

There is no perfect political party. Consequently I'm not here to confirm nor condemn the SD party. But immigration is having an enormous impact on Europe as a whole and it needs to be discussed. Policies need to be put in place so that immigration can be positive and not destroy the very countries that are gracious enough to take others in. The SDs seem to be the only party willing to take this task on at this point. Perhaps, as Rick says, the other parties will take their cue from the SDs (and the public that voted them in) and start dialogue.

Please provide evidence for your accusations: quote from the party's platform or statements made by party officials, or equivalent. And for your own credibility, refrain from ad hominem comments such as those hurled at me above: they may convince 5-year old EUrabians, but is that your audience?
