Swedish court: okay to get high in Denmark

A Swedish court has acquitted a woman of minor drugs offences after she claimed she had ingested the amphetamines in Denmark, where doing so is not a crime.

Subsequent test revealed she had both methamphetamine and amphetamines in her system, resulting in charges for minor drugs offences, the local Hallandsposten (HP) newspaper reported.
During her trial, which was held on Wednesday in the Halland District Court, the woman admitted to ingesting the drugs, but explained that she had taken them in Denmark, where the drugs she used are not illegal.
As prosecutors were unable to prove the woman was lying about when she took the drugs, the court ruled that the charges be dropped.
"The crime happens the second you take the drug. The fact that she still had it in her blood when arriving to Sweden doesn’t mean she has committed a crime in Sweden," lead judge Jenny Hayden told the newspaper.
However, the court's ruling didn't sit well with police officer Ulf Bejrum.
"This means that practically every person in the south of Sweden could say, 'I've just come back from Denmark,' and get away with taking drugs," he told HP.
Bejrum added that he hopes that laws will be amended as a result of the verdict in order to prevent other suspected drug offenders of using the "Denmark defence".

the pigs have more problems with alcohol on any given weekend than they ever do with the odd doper sucking on some grass.
I've seen plenty of 60+ year old's who can't handle their alcohol. Alcohol is a drug, a very dangerous one at that, and yet most everyone here is quick to judge as soon as someone ingests any kind of drug that doesn't come from a bottle with a fancy sticker.
The stupidity in this country will end when the hypocrisy ends. When we rely on scientific facts rather than the emotional propaganda proposed by the barons of the war on drugs.
Many of the drugs that are illegal in Sweden are much less harmful to the body and brain than alcohol. The world is starting to open up its eyes to this, so why can't Sweden?
Don't be sad, if anything this is the right direction for our beloved, silly little country.
I agree that alcohol is the worst of them all but, but it is legal and the other drugs are not. Maybe not fair but there we are at this present time. Any kind that makes you go out of your mind is bad news whatever label is on it.
Thats like EU Citizens being arrested in Sweden for paying for sex with prostitutes outside of Sweden (lets use Germany or Holland as an example where it is legal).

Since when is Meth considered a soft drug? There is almost nothing natural in the ingredients. I don't necessarily disagree with you on something that grows naturally in the wild, per se, but if you need to fill up a cart at Cheapy in order to reach your mind altering state, then no.
You don't go to jail for testing positive in a THC test, but you're summoned to court and fined. Depending on your residency status, you may see your permit revoked.
@Playmaker: Your neighbor cop lied to you (or didn't know better!). There's precedent for the "Amsterdam defense" when caught with THC in your system. All you need to do is provide proof (receipts, plane ticket, etc.) to be in the clear.
Legalize it already!!! Prohibition only feeds organized criminals and useless state departments. Adults should be allowed to put whatever they want into their bodies. And don't give me the "healthcare cost" silly argument, because candy, sodas, cigarettes, alcohol and pastries are responsible for 99.99% of non-work related admissions to hospitals.
