Police in Scotland have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the suicide bombing in Stockholm in December.

A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly after 6am on Tuesday as part of an operation that began in Sweden, according to Strathclyde police.

"The arrest in Scotland is a result of the Scottish police investigation and a cooperation between Scotland and Sweden within the framework for international legal assistance, as well as a good cooperation between prosecutors and the police authorities," Swedish intelligence agency Säpo said in a statement.

"The investigation so far shows that there may be a connection between the arrested person and the terror crime in Stockholm on December 11th, something
the continued investigative work in Scotland will have to show," the statement
added.

Strathclyde police confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the man was arrested at 6.05am in the Whiteinch area of Glasgow, adding that he was not a UK citizen.

"This has resulted in a 30-year-old foreign national being arrested under the Terrorism Act. The operation centres on a previous incident in Sweden."

A police spokesperson confirmed that the arrest was made after intelligence gathering which indicated that he had been involved in assisting terror activities outside of Scotland.

There was no direct threat against Scotland, the police confirmed.

Taimour Abdulwahab, a Swedish citizen who lived in the British town of Luton with his wife and three children, narrowly missed wreaking carnage among Christmas shoppers when he blew himself up next to Stockholm's busiest pedestrian street on December 11th.

He was carrying a cocktail of explosives and is believed to have mistakenly set off a small explosion that killed him before he could carry out what appears to have been a mission to kill "as many people as possible," a Swedish prosecutor said days after the attack.

An Islamist website, Shumukh al-Islam, posted a purported will by Abdulwahab which said he was fulfilling a threat by Al-Qaeda in Iraq to attack Sweden.

Shortly before the explosions, Säpo and the TT news agency received an email with audio files in which Abdulwahab is heard telling "all hidden mujahedeen in Europe, and especially in Sweden, it is now the time to fight back."

Please Scotland Yard and UK authorities; I am pleading with you as a resident of Sweden to please keep that piece of filth over there and don't extradite him to Sweden. We want him to spend the rest of his life in prison and the most he will get in Sweden is a welfare check and a hero welcome.

@Rishomim Amen, Amen

@Rishomim

Totally agree!

Don'y you think we have enough of this filth already in prison here? The polce and security services are unable to watch the rubbish on the streets with a known terrorist empathy and willingness to murder civilians.

Sadly, this filth have a wonderful time in prison here. In fact, even the news media have suggested that the criminals can survive on the UK state pension, while pensioners can have a better life in an open prison. That, then is the state of play here in the UK

The UK welcomes all the filth from all over the world to settle here. Even when the law is seriously broken, these morons live on fantastic welfare benefits, that I as a pensioner can only dream of. And, they are not sent back to the shitlands they came from.

Welcome to Eurabia, or is it Eurislam I can't remember. It's my age you see.

How much longer is Sweden going to talk about "Stockholm suicide bomb"? Everyday people die in Afghanistan and all those towel-heads countries, why not bug us about them too? Or they are not humans enough yet?!
18:08 March 8, 2011 by jbat
That Abdul wahab is surely a fake scam muslim...

100% agree with Rishomim.. keep this man in jail forever if he really have any connection with the bombing.. Again, if he really did it.. he is also purely fake scam muslim like his leader Osama the devil laden...

@Rishonim, He is being held in Scotland so he wouldn't be sent back to Sweden for a hero's welcome. Scotland sends its terrorists back to the ME or North Africa for a hero's welcome.

@ motti

True words have never been more precise.

I especially agree 1000% on the confusion of what this countries new name will be once they take over, which could be very soon. No thanks to the current Swedish government : )

Couldn't some of you guys wait to see if this man is actually guilty before calling him "filth" and bundling him off to prison for the rest of his life?

Every one of you would demand a trial and conviction before you were punished. How about you all show this man the same courtesy you would expect yourselves?

Courtesy.......my but!!!!!!

Neil Hazar,

people never forget terrorist acts and you shouldn't ask or expect them to.

Look at the reaction to a proposal to build a mosque some blocks away from World Trade Center. Most likely it will not be built in our lifetime.

Terrorists often think short term with these things, but people never forgive and never forget. The same with wars. All the generations that experienced it, will never forget or forgive, and you shouldn't expect or ask them to.

What's important is for Muslims to actively protest terrorism carried out in their name against their wishes so these terrorists can stop pretending to be Muslims.

I hear Islam does not allow Muslims to "judge" another person's Islam or something like that, but you can stand up and shout that this is not how you yourself practice Islam. And if a lot of Muslims do this together in large gatherings, it might reduce the ability of these terrorists to claim Islam - they will probably start their own sect, but it would not really be Islam and people would be able to tell the difference.
