As to India buying all that old Soviet junk that hasn't won a war for thirty years, I would guess that probably has more to do with bribes and kick-backs than any real military needs of the Nuclear armed India.
The west has created problems in the region and then sell their weapons. Sweden sold Bofors artilery to India and then stopped selling its ammunication when they were used against Pakistan. As a result, India had to buy the artilery shells 10 times more expensive from black-market.
Based on what? It has the second biggest military budget in the world which is increasing exponentially from year to year. 7.5% increase from 2009 to 2010 and 12.7% from 2010 to 2011 (avg 10% every year for the last 15 years). It has 1.6 million soldiers.
It has eleven armored brigades with about 10 thousand tanks. It has nuclear weapons and missiles that can deliver them all over the world except South America. It has anti-satellite weaponry and it has invested into 5th generation fighter jet.
All of this in the name of defense of China?
Who is nuts enough to attack China with their unlimited reserves and nuclear weapons? What do they require such an enormous army for? Economical benefit? This is a cash and resource sucking monster.
And the problems between Pakistan, India and China are relevant long before the "west" got off the trees. So I would not hang THIS on the west as well.
Ever heard of US?
During cold war US and USSR had stocked nuclear weapons enough to destroy world many thousands times over and over again (I dont care to find the exact number of times it can be blown up) and they called it minimum deterrence. And what we have is peanuts compared to that, ofcourse because our enemies are of lesser capabilities and we are not that retarted YET! SO roll over and die and rot.
@ Fernandis
China has already invaded India in the 60's, Use wikipedia.
and Indian lost. why? mainly due to incompetence of the commanders. more weapon will not prevail against good strategy and better trained soldiers.
the money that so called developed countries invest in their arm industry, if they have invested it for the world peace,it could have been a better choice.
The lost due an array of reasons but merely bad commanders. Can you prove that the commanders or strategy are no better than they were in 60's.
"One of the most basic policies for the new Indian government was that of maintaining cordial relations with China, reviving its ancient friendly ties. India was among the first nations to grant diplomatic recognition to the newly-created PRC.[23]"
"Arguably, the main lesson India learned from the war was the need to strengthen its own defences and a shift from Nehru's foreign policy with China based on his stated concept of "brotherhood" "
The present defence budget is simply in relation to direct threats we face.
The mess which will be western by western forces after leaving afghanistan.
increasingly unstable pak.
more and more aggressive china in its conflicts related to a bunch of islands to its east towards many countries, including japan.
We are not over doing it by increasing our defence spending.
I totally agree with u man....
and as we lost the war with China, the then Prime Minister decided to increase our military strength and even that incident made us to develop nuclear weapons...and we achieved it through Pokran 1 and 2....first non-permanent UN security council country to do that:):)
but with the help of some anti-Indian countries like US and China even Pakis developed nuclear weapons...I bet they didnt not develop, they GOT it from someone...so we need many advanced weapons to protect us....
he is talking about misleading their own public???? hahaha what about the millions of book bought off by pak military under his rule and burnt?
"The Myth of 1965 Victory",[69] allegedly exposed Pakistani fabrications about the war, but all copies of the book were bought by Pakistan Army to prevent publication because the topic was "too sensitive".[70][71]"
Musharaff is probably the last person who should talk about peace:
"From May to July 1999, Pakistan and India were involved in the Kargil Conflict, an armed conflict between the two countries in the Kargil district of Kashmir. It was planned and executed during General Musharraf's term as the Pakistani Army Chief of Staff under Prime Minister Sharif.
Sharif has claimed that Musharraf was solely responsible for the Kargil attacks"
and of course it failed!
and his involvement in siachen fiasco doesnt help either:
"He later admitted that he "broke down and wept"[3] when he heard the "disgusting" news of Pakistan's unconditional surrender to India.[10][11] Later he commanded regiments of artillery, an Artillery Brigade and then an infantry division. In September 1987, he was instrumental in giving orders to a newly formed SSG at Khapalu base (Kashmir), which launched an assault and successfully captured two intermediate posts, Bilafond La in Siachen Glacier, before being pushed back.[12]"
His is not talking to an expert, just some useless journalist who didnt do his homework.
Besides we trusted more than once to be back stabbed again and again
Joshe, ofcourse that is the best thing to do, a lot of constructive things can be done if we are able to focus our energies. What I am trying to say is that India is simple being forced to be what it is now.
Fernandis can you repost what you wanted to say,,, there are no comments.
"Ever heard of US?"
Ever heard that US has such an army budget precisely for the benefit of invading other countries? What China has it for?
As it has been said, China has enough nuclear and chemical weapons to make the 80% of world population drown in it's own puke and blood for the last 3 minutes of their lives.
At the same time - conventionally, China can win against US on its own turf even if every Chinese soldier would have a fork for a weapon. There are more males available for military service there than the entire population of the US.
Why does it need 10 thousand tanks, 2500 fighter jets, antisattelite systems and the second biggest military budget in the world, if not for future possible "restoration of historical justice" against India, that has the same amount of population, more advanced weaponry and nuclear force?
I mean, how commie one have to be to assume that USA is ALWAYS the bad guy and dictatorships with territorial and resources claims are the good guys that are only trying to defend themselves from the diabolic west? Even when they attack others, the left wing here somehow finds the fault of the west, because a white person dared to pass in the place 200 years a go. Iraq, Somalia, Serbia, North Korea, Syria - all attacked OTHERS. But how fast do we forget that? How easily do we throw it on the western puppet master?
Isn't it tiresome?
"how commie one have to be to assume that USA is ALWAYS the bad guy and dictatorships with territorial and resources claims are the good guys "
I don't assume who's the bad guy and who's the good guy. It's all about the balance of international superpowers. Having only one superpower doesn't give you any balance. The way you can't have one heavy weight to balance a scale.
"China has enough nuclear and chemical weapons to ...."
Nuclear weapons stay put in their silos. Having them is a requirement of reaching a status quo in the balance of terror. The real WMD who killed countless men, women and children are still guns swords and arrows.
"onventionally, China can win against US on its own turf even if every Chinese soldier would have a fork for a weapon. There are more males available for military service there than the entire population of the US."
If your logic holds, Iraq with their 31 million population should've defeated the invading US force with ease, because Iraq got more males available for military service than the entire US detachment sent to mideast. Sadly, battles today are not fought with numbers.
"Why does it need 10 thousand tanks, 2500 fighter jets, antisattelite systems and the second biggest military budget in the world, if not for future possible "restoration of historical justice" against India, that has the same amount of population, more advanced weaponry and nuclear force?"
So your logic is: if China got weapons, then China must use them on India. Have you heard about the border conflicts China had with Russia, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and even Taiwan? Ever heard about the US carrier parked outside China's doorstep? Not mentioning how many of the neighboring nations are the allies of US? Geopolitically, China is almost surrounded already.
The story with antisatellite weapon is: US made one first, and refused to talk with UN about the ban on space weapons. Then China successfully made their own. this time US came back to the negotiations.
Better to starve than be raped.
What fine academic institution produced You???
For the record the Chinese Communists have accomplished the following aggresions-
-At home-Attacked the Chinese Nationalist government when it was in the middle of trying to prevent the Genocide of the Chinese people by the Japanese in World War II.
In the North Border Skirmishing with the Former Soviet Union, and conquest of Mongolia.
-In the South-Attacked the United Nations forces in Korea and continues to support one of the most evil Dictatorships in the World, directly responsible for supporting international terror,Genocide on millions of it's own people, hundreds of attacks on South Korea and Incursions into Japanese territorial water, and the clandestine kidnapping of Foreign Nationals.
-Also to the South- They attacked their former Allies the Peoples Republic of Vietnam, with a full scale military invasion.
-In the West-The unprovoked conquest, occupation and attempted destuction of the Country of Tibet and it's people.
-In the West-Attacked India.
-In the East- Repeated assaults against the Republic of Taiwan and her shipping.
Also in the East-aggressions against Japan in International waters, based upon submerged rocks they claim are Chinese Islands.
At home attacked the peaceful Tinamen demonstators with tanks, harrasses Religouse leaders, blocks internet access without censorship, forced abortions of women, and don't forget my personal favorite considers Chaiman Mao the Greatest Mass Murderer in the history of the world "their National Heroe"!
Kind of makes their support of their proxie regime, the Genocidal mass murder Pol Pott and the Killing Fields of Cambodia, seem insignificant.
-Attempted through espionage to overthrow the Governments of South Korea, Viet nam, the Philipines, Malaysia, Burma, Thailand, Mongolia, etc., etc.
