Colon cleansing course fined for toilet shortage

Published: 5 Apr 11 10:34 CET | Print version

The arrangers of a Hawaiian colon cleansing course in northern Sweden that worked a little too well have been fined for not having enough toilets.

One of the course's female participants reported the company that arranged the course after she was forced to empty her bowels outside in front of other participants, according to local media reports.

According to the woman, the fact there were more participants than toilets forced participants to employ a "first come, first served" policy, much to the detriment of those for whom the treatment worked less urgently.

The course in Hawaiian colonic cleansing was organised at a residential study centre in Ångermanland in northern Sweden.

The centre has now been ordered to refund 1,000 kronor ($158) to the woman after she complained that not only did the toilet facilities not meet demand, the course was too short and too expensive.

"The board assumes that the vast majority would prefer, and even take for granted, the possibility to defecate in private, unless otherwise apparent from the event's information," the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden - ARN) wrote in its decision.

Hawaiian colon cleansing is a process developed by the island nation's Kahunas - taken to mean variously expert, sorcerer, magician or minister - for the radical purging of bowel plaque and acids.

The cleansing process is completed by drinking large quantities of lightly-salted water and herbal concoctions over the course of several days.

This sounds like the preparation you are forced to do before a colonoscopy(I know I cannot spell it). I lived on Oahu for 25 yrs and I have never heard of such fun. Darn it!! But I have done it for the procedure and can tell you it is no fun.

If Colon cleansing was held in El Salvador it would be robbery.

The national currency is called the Colon

People do this for fun ?

It seems very unlikely that there are any health benefits - was a medical claim made and was any evidence offered.

Directions for Hawaiin colon cleansing:

1. Swallow one pineapple, whole

2. Take 1/2 box of Ex Lax

3. Wait 6 hours. If you can pass the pineapple, your colon will be clean

These people are idiots. I can't imagine what that bathroom must have smelled like. The cleaning staff deserve hazardous duty pay.

THis is not just a problem of not having enough toilets on the course is it !

This is a Swedish problem in general.

Just try and find a toilet on the streets of Stockholm (IMPOSSIBLE)

And just be prepared to hold it in ,or pee your pants ,when waiting for a train.

God help you if you are busting ,even when the train pulls up,Because the government thinks, a journey as long as 40 extra minutes is no problem.

Why do we need toilets on trains .This City is very uncivilised in this inhumane way.Imagine this in England,People would not put up with it.

There are few worse feelings in the world than the sudden urgent need to empty your bowels, but having no proper depository facility available.

Perhaps a few boxes of this colon cleaner could be sent to Mona Sahlin.
19:01 April 5, 2011 by eZee.se
@Tanskalainen,

A kind of good idea to send it to nearly all the politicians,

The reason I say "kind of" is because once they do go to the toilet they will have even less brains...
21:04 April 5, 2011 by bramblebush
Just imagine the fun they could have all had if they all had to go at the same time. They could have ruined the carpet, for sure...

What surprised me most about my visit to Stockholm was that if I could find a toilet I would need a 5k coin to use it and most of the toilets were as clean as a third world toilet.

I still don't get it. is it real news?

@Zeero: EXACTLY my question... WTH... is this a news?

What kind of sick F**ks would want to watch this poor woman in this state of distress? This is not even funny.
11:25 April 6, 2011 by johnny1939
Maybe I am not a nice person but if you pay good money to cleanse your innards w/ saltwater you take your chances. The organizers of this "crap" are practicing medicin w/o a license. Makes me recall the heat tents in Arizona where 3 people died.
23:46 April 9, 2011 by Wireless.Phil
Not in American news anyway!

We can laugh because it wasn't us.

Can't believe people actually pay for this! Gees, go to K-Mart/WalMart/Target or a drug store and buy a Fleet Enema, it is a saline laxative for under $5!

"The "Hawaiian Colon Cleanse" has nothing to do with the reputed benefits of the Noni berries (Hawaii's answer to the Brazilian Acai berries) and is really just a more aggressive version of the SWF or Salt Water Flush."
05:18 April 13, 2011 by wenddiver
Hey, got great idea for taking white man for a ride, Hawaiian Colon Cleanse! We will sell him his own Salt Water in Sweden! Will be lots of fun, will tell him Hawaii is a Nation not a State, will appeal to White Liberals who want to tell feel superior to other intollerant white men. I will call myself the big Kahuna, just like in the Hawaian Punch Soft Drink commercials, it will be funny.

Don't they know native Hawaians have one of the highest obeseity rates on the planet due to their love of such things as SPAMM, Hawaian Bar-b-Qued Pork, Potatoe Chips and chewing tobacoo.

No the whites are stupid, it should be funny.

Line up for the one toilet class, ha, ha,ha, ha, you so funny.
