"BANG!!!! BANG!!!! BANG!!! In the midst of the Stanley Cup’s Eastern Conference semifinals series, every Bostonian knows it is all about Bruins ice hockey. Oh right. I am in Sweden, home of the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation GOLD Champions. And there is certainly no doubt ice hockey fever has taken over Sweden. A lot of Swedes,..." READ »

So how does this relatively uneducated person think that increasing taxes would benefit the country? It didn't work before did it?
And yes, the socialist policies did work well before the 1990s, in fact far too well!!!
The rest of it is the usual dogma twice rejected by the electorate. If this is the best Juholt can do, the Moderates are laughing all the way to a third succesive election victory in 2014 . Come on the Social Democrats, change, or Sweden is going to revert to a one-party state.
Punishing employers and successful entrepreneurs is most certainly the way to create jobs.
Or perhaps to force them to leave.
Yeah redefine the property tax so that only the very rich can afford to by somewhere to live.
Abolish the Monarchy & watch tourism drop by 50%, but then they have another excuse to raise taxes.
Sweden are still paying the price of Palme's politics.
Yes, this Juholt fellow would do well to rethink his views on raising taxes. A "rich" tax may be fine, because how many people would actually be affected by that? A minority, and it has a populist attraction to it (and give me a break with the Ayn Rand drivel...most rich people are not "job creators," they're parasites living off shielded investments or inheritances)...all the other crap though forget it. The math doesn't add up if you're going to have a liberal immigration policy, with increasing unemployment because of unskilled workers entering the country, but then a generous public welfare program. It's noble and commendable, but also naive and unworkable in the long run. Swedes will/have begun demanding more control over their finances because they're seeing a decrease in their quality of life.
The times they are a changin'...
I am the first to establish myself as an idiot, for even to speak of this subject, but how long can a country slip & slide of EMU, like some goddamn piece of swedish summer soap?
I mean, even Estonia finally got the EURO-currency.
There must be some higher, good doing purpose for common good to all EURO-area about letting Sweden go on with their own currency (NOT!)
Can you be specific? Just out of curiousity, as I worked in software dev back in the US but am currently "taking it easy" here in Sweden doing freelance work here and there. What is it like working in the industry here?
Bush got elected twice. You never know...
Sometimes the idiot you underestimate has the last laugh.
We are guests, not here to conquer your culture or replace you in your home, if you want the US Citizens out have your government tell the nearest US Embassy and the US Marines will chopper them out to the Fleet.
As to SD physically attacking US Citizens, I don't think they have a problem with us, besides when a Mutt goes out into the world, thereare two two things he is prepared for to be kicked at by snobs and to defend himself. My Dogs are more than capable of defending themselves, if it comes to that.
Software developers in Sweden, expats earn substantially more than locally employed.
Show us the statistics behind that claim, please.
So , the next question should be : is his position the same as that of the party that he leads ? Does the Social Democtric party think that the monarchy should be abolished or not ?
If yes , why have they not suggested so all the years they have been in power
If not , what kind of relationship will there be between Prime Minister Juholt`s government and the King who happens to be the Head Of State ?
Surely , Juholt will not be ready to work under a Head Of State whose institution he does not respect .
The Social Democratic`s secretariet needs to come out with a clarification on this one .
If monarchy draws tourists, how do you explain that France, which guillotined its royals over two centuries ago, draws more tourists by far than any other European nation?
I'm retired and live in Minnesota and for years I had the Sweden/Switzerland identity mixup. We are taught little geography here so we have to learn it on our own. I finally learned it. The Swedes have a lot of blonds, so do the Swiss and maybe that's part of it.
(Line 5 is a lie.)
For most of you paying taxes is painfull lke a kick in the balls coz you say they're gonna pay lazy people's biills, but if it's for supportng a lazy royalty then it's fine.... why? They are the same lazy or even more..... even worse, they are also extravagant.
The faxt that a country's economy is OK doesn't always mean that people are ok .... people = you and I.
Think a bit before writing.
