Sweden deported family to wrong country

A family deported to Uzbekistan after Sweden rejected their application for asylum is set to return to Sweden after Uzbek authorities concluded that they were not from the central Asian country.

The family were flown to Uzbekistan in a specially chartered plane on Friday, but are set to arrive back in Halland in western Sweden already on Monday.

"They are not Uzbeks, according to the Uzbek authorities," said Marianne Paulsson at Halland police to the TT news agency.

The family will now undergo a new investigation into their application for asylum.

The case gained attention after Falkenberg municipal executive board urged the Migration Board (Migrationsverket) to reconsider its decision to deport the family.

But despite the appeal, the deportation was carried out on Friday in a plane carrying a number of other families.

"The Uzbek authorities have conducted a very thorough investigation and concluded that the family are definitely not from Uzbekistan and are not Uzbeks," Marianne Paulsson said.

Paulsson explained that the identification documents held by the family were fakes and former places of residence given by them have been shown to be fabrications.

The Migration Court has previously ruled that the family is from Uzbekistan although the Migration Board has said that it believes the family could originate from Uzbekistan, Azerbajdzjan, Turkey, Georgia or elsewhere, Paulsson told TT.

The family will be returned to the Migration Board's reception unit on their return to Sweden.

Deported people return to Sweden from time to time.

The Local reported in December 2010 on the case of a 52-year-old Iranian man after he was sent to neighbouring Iraq by mistake.

Syftfel, I'm curious as to how you extricated yourself from the car window incident. Please finish the story!

migrationboard & migration court made their initial mistakes....now, give the family benefit of the doubt which is PUT (permament uppehållstillstånd)
16:11 April 11, 2011 by martiancat
permament uppehållstillstånd for lying their asses off about where they come from? I don't think so.
16:43 April 11, 2011 by bramblebush
Who cares what country they were deported to. Just as long as they were deported..
16:55 April 11, 2011 by Rick Methven
@Syftfelis

"By the way, why does this story not reveal that it was Roma who were deported, not just plain vanilla Uzbeks?"

Perhaps because they are NOT Roma
17:17 April 11, 2011 by Syftfel
@Valdemaratterdag: There were four of us in the car, and when were beginning to get sourrounded by screaming romas, we stepped on the gas and sped off, while being pursued by howling romas.

@methven; I'm basing my conclusions on anecdotal evidence. Uzbek immigration denied them entry. They had been deported from Europe. Those two facts send one's suspicion in a certain direction. The story left out the ethnicity of the deportees. It is unlikely they were ethnic Uzbeks since ethnic Uzbeks for the most part have little reason to illegally enter Europe. They would normally go to Turkey. I will leave a small option open for the fact that they might have been something else. But the signs are there. But it is such a great shame that media sees fit to give us incomplete stories for their own PC reasons. Swedish media has created this morass of uncertianties and vaguaries. What's left but to guess?

"the family could originate from Uzbekistan, Azerbajdzjan, Turkey, Georgia or elsewhere"

That cuts it down... Could be from elsewhere!!! Genius.

I remember when I was once in the middle east how most people fantasize living in Sweden, they would go with their broken Enlgish and the habit to repeat words like "Sweden Sweden.. money money.. good life" lol

But you NEVER hear them saying lets work hard and do our best to have a food life like Swedish people did! All they want is to go to countries like Sweden and enjoy the results of hard work.

Sweden and all countries like Sweden need to grow some balls.
18:24 April 11, 2011 by wenddiver
@Heilnizar- I lived in Iran as a boy and there were hard working people who were also decent people, but the Shah had a real problem on his hands, because being a beggar or a cheat did not seem to be socially obnoxious in the Middle east. He spent a fortune on Trade training for the beggars, but society itself seemed to encourage begging and looking mangy to beg as part of the religion.

I don't blame the Iranian people, many of them were educated and very nice. I think all of the Westerners foud General Kia (No idea how his last name was spelled) charming, I always thought that is what the Persian Kings of old were like, but Islam didn't just conquer Persia it destroyed it's very value system. Islam did to most of the Kingdoms of the Middle East what the Communists did to East Germany, it erased their National and cultural identity and substituted a violent and backwards ideology that never improves, because if criticized or change is suggested they kill or imprision you.

That's why the ones who want to live off the Welfare state go to Sweden and the ones who want to become Srgeons and become Millionaires go to California.

My dentist is Iranian and is very good - he is a Muslim too and hated the Shah because he like the rest of the middle East despots was so far up the backside of the US of A

Sweden should stop draining resources of the poor Uzbekistan by sending there refugees of unknown origin. Just accept those poor people and give them uppehållstillstånd and citizenship eventually.

I'm not sure Syftfel has ever left a comment that is not completely bereft of any sense or logic.

by the way - Azerbaijan - this is the correct way of writing the country's name. your google.translator could not translate 'Azerbajdzjan' into english?
04:28 April 12, 2011 by Da Goat
what a clever ruse arrive from nowhere so that they can't send you back, if it was not so dishonest you would have to pay that one!

we had a guy who arrived here and his passport expired/lost so we could not deport him easily as anyone without a passport is automatically sent back no questions asked!

so if you can get in with bad papers you are home and hosed! (as long as you don't wish to travel anywhere ever)

It always seems that a few bad apples ruin the bushel. Having said that, since moving to Sweden, I've met quite a few great middle eastern people. I haven't really met any Roma people except a few that broke into my friends machine shop, but not saying they're all bad, just hadn't met them yet.

When I studied at SFI, I met some great Iranian people. I did meet a few that looked at Sweden as a stepping stone to the West. They were quite surprized when I said I was from Canada, and said they wanted to go there or the US. They said they'd stay as long as it takes to get a Swedish passport, because it'll be easier than using their original.
08:41 April 12, 2011 by Just_Kidding
Hey Decedo, I don't know about US, but those Iranians will come back to Sweden (or go back to Iran) after living in Canada for a while and knowing it. Been there, done that.
11:07 April 12, 2011 by HeilNizar
@wenddiver

I couldn't put that better, well said about how Islam/Muhammad destroyed nations with his so called ideology forever, while in fact he was just a pedophile, but..

That doesn't mean that people from Islam-infected countries should keep running away from the problem, what does Sweden or the west in general have to do with it?! If you are aware of your problem then it's the first step towards the solution, even though it sounds impossible to re-brain wash all those Muslims I still believe its possible as Islam and all other religions are falling apart right now.
13:19 April 12, 2011 by flintis
Send'em back to whence they came, far too many leaches on the social in Sweden.
14:44 April 12, 2011 by Syftfel
@Methven, iraniboy and now also indignerad: You seem to be in the habit of critizing me as a person, as opposed to my ideas. This is of course a classic tactic of the dictatorial, palmeistic, left. If you can't meet the argument, attack the person! It's considered very rude in a forum like this to go on personal attack, and is often also a sure way to get your posting privileges banned. Hence going forward, let's talk about ideas and politics and not whether I am "bereft of logic", or a "pathetic pea brain". You can attack any politician(Let's face we pay their salaries), but not the posters themselves in these forums. Let's talk about ideas, not personality traits. OK kids? Good, you're learning.

@Decedo. I agree with you 100%. I met some very sweet Iraqui, Somalian, Albanian, etc., people at SFI (I was the only white, English speaking person in my entire school). I run into many of them in my town often and we say hello and talk about how our Swedish is coming along. They were all very curious about why the heck I was in Sweden when America is the best. Why on Earth would I be here in this miserable cold country with it's equally cold people? They ALL had plans to some day make it to the US. One guy even admitted the first day of class that (to the whole class, when we were asked to discuss our goals) he was in Sweden strictly to get an education then he would be moving to another country as soon as he milked Sweden for what he wanted.

At first this was such a big surprise, I came to Sweden because of my husband's family connection and fell in love the beauty and traditions of Sweden. I naively assumed the other foreigners did too. I was wrong and though I liked my friends at SFI, the experience there has jaded me on what the motives of foreigners are and I now fear for Sweden, its people and traditions. My children are half Swedish and will probably never see the beauty that once existed here when their Gammel Farfar and Farmors grew up--especially in about 10-15 years from now....:(
