Why bother with SVT when Sky are committed to covering the wedding from every conceivable angle with local British commentary from London all day long.
BBC World's slightly more restrained coverage is split into two, starting at 9.30 am and 15.10 respectively.
Personally I think our brat of a British ambassador in Stockholm - Andrew Mitchell - could have earned his salary for once by throwing the embassy's doors open to all British passport holders in Stockholm for a free party, but then again if he was decent enough to think like that he wouldn't be the elitist tosser he is.
- Don't watch, good tip.
The lower echelon of guests to the Abbey will have to be there 3 hours before the wedding starts. wooden seats means a lot of numb bums!!
Or it can be vacuous fluff.
I suppose it all depends upon the Brit.
If the brits royal family wedding has a global audience of 2 billion people - the few people with negative comments on these pages surely must recognise they are a totally insignificant minority that no-one really wants to listen to.
- the royals would never reciprocate your admiration, nor do they care about you. They will never believe that you or I are anything other than their servants, and that you and I are deemed 'beneath' them is well and proper to them, but if you're ok with that, watch their antics till you can't I guess.
Victoria & Daniel where there but did not stay for the late night party as they had to come back for her fathers 65th today.
IMO I have much more respect for William than the rest of them. He is clearly another young man who just wants to get on with his life. Nobody forced anybody to watch the wedding.
The posts of yourself & Njal just come over as the bitch of a couple of loosers
Have you ever said to yourself "please god me keep my big mouth shut". If you read correctly Njal you will see that I am neither a believer nor non believer, and said neither of the sorts. But you made judgement before you could think (understandable). All I said was don't listen to you, which I suppose others are doing.
- lol! bit touchy this morning Great Scott, is it because you weren't invited to the wedding (they must have forgot), or that you were called out as a fake Scot?
@ Rick Methven
- IMO William has no respect for you, and could care less as to whether you have any respect for him or not. Nobody was forced to watch wedding' you're correct, but as I've said before, lots of people get married, and the fact that you want to watch it says that you are the 'looser' ( or is that loser Rick, how far away is your dictionary mate?) and a servile sycophant at that.
A Yank like yourself ought to know better, your country was largely founded as a rejection of these @$$holes.
Keep lapping it up tho'
Where do I start with people like you, maybe start with the pros and cons. Let's say we start with just the British royal family, pros - they bring in £millions in tourism to the UK every year - they provide the UK with so much pageantry, something the rest of the world admires especially the US - they are neutral in politics so can host formal occasions. - they contribute to the UK's history in a very big way. - People of the UK can always turn to them when a big occasion comes along and feel some form of comfort, especially when the UK has a right wing government that depresses them.
So what are the cons? Maybe cost of security, which any state person has to have.
The UK royal family do not get as much as most people think from the state, they generate a lot of income (which they pay tax on) from their own sources, they received many things such as cars as gifts. The royals just don't sit at home with their feet up, e.g. Prince William is in the RAF severing as a helicopter pilot rescuing people's lives, Prince Harry is serving in the army.
They do not live the lavish life style you think they do, in fact most senior politicians live better. They work many more hours than you and I do, and are often under pressure something that you and I can walk away from.
So what gains are there for abolishing royalty? What harm are they doing you?
It's Sweden's king's birthday today are you opposing that.
It's time to start thinking, move on and deal with your problem.
PS What is all this rubbish about Scott, are trying to tell me I don't know my own name.
Please read carefully: No one has the right to be so elevated above their fellow human, not because of birth and certainly not because of money; which you list as a pro in 1 paragraph and a con the next. Money is not a good or just reason to maintain this stupid ancient practice. I believe the money issue has been pointed out before, not all of us are motivated by such things.
"they provide the UK with so much pageantry"
- this is a fancy word for 'tinsel' Scott, for the easily impressed. There are many counries within the Commonwealth where there are people starving/facing gross injustices, what do you imagine their desire for 'Pageantry' is?
"they contribute to the UK's history in a very big way."
- agreed, tho' perhaps not in the way you think. There can be both good AND bad 'vestiges' of the past, yes?
" The royals just don't sit at home with their feet up"
- did Hello magazine tell you so? I was in the army myself once, and there are plenty of people out there saving lives. While I would not criticize 'Bill' for doing the right thing, I wouldn't give him any special points for it either, especially given his position.
"So what gains are there for abolishing royalty?
- no more tedious listening to people sermonizing about the bloody royals for one, a happier world for another.
"It's Sweden's king's birthday today are you opposing that."
- dunno, that's up to the Swedes, I live in the Commonwealth.
"It's time to start thinking"
- agreed, please start.
"deal with your problem."
- you mean the royals, I thought I was
"are trying to tell me I don't know my own name."
- based on your previous misconceptions possibly.
have a nice day ;)
