A Swedish citizen nicknamed "Stallion" faced a US court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring to supply weapons to Colombian guerillas in exchange for cocaine.

US prosecutors claim Paul Mardirossian is an international arms and drug dealer who agreed to supply weapons to the Marxist rebel group FARC with the knowledge that they would be used for an assault on the US military in Colombia.

Mardirossian, 42, was extradited from Panama to the United States on Friday. He was arraigned Monday in a federal court in New York and was being held without bail.

In February 2010, Mardirossian met with undercover operatives of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) whom he believed to be representatives of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), prosecutors said.

Mardirossian allegedly agreed to supply FARC with rocket-propelled grenade launchers and assault rifles, in exchange for "large quantities of cocaine," prosecutors said in a statement.

At a meeting in January, Mardirossian allegedly was told by a second DEA undercover operative that the weapons "were needed to attack a US military
base that was currently under construction," the statement added.

Mardirossian allegedly inspected cocaine supplies at a location outside Panama City and later made plans to ship cocaine to New York.

He was arrested April 27 in Panama City shortly after coordinating the delivery of a weapons sample -- a grenade launcher and AK-47 assault rifle -- to an undercover officer in Copenhagen, Denmark, prosecutors said.

Mardirossian faces life in prison if convicted on charges including conspiracy to engage in narco-terrorism, conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, attempted cocaine smuggling, and money laundering.

Guns from Europe exchanged for Cocaine in Colombia to be shipped to NY....damn....sounds like a grand plan. Lord of War eat your heart out!
09:18 May 10, 2011 by wenddiver
@Stickeroo-I hope part of the plan was what to do when your violently raped, because MCC (Metroploitan Correctional Center) New YorK is one of the most assaultive/ violent Federal Prisons ever built. It is the real star of the Movie Escape from New York, with Kurt Russel where in the future the institution covers all of Manhattan.

Knowing how funny New Yorker's think terrorism is after 911, I wouldn't make any travel plans for the next 400 years, but maybe he can make a deal with the Federal Prosecuters to get sentenced between 35 to Life for giving up everybody in the conspiracy.

No matter how awful your life is, it's better than his.

The guy is not an arm dealer. He is a salesman for BOFORS. You have to learn to read in between lines.
11:47 May 10, 2011 by johnny1939
..and to be used to attack American bases....yea, yea rot in jail. I do hope that you never get back to Sweden we do not need the likes of you!!! Whatever he gets in jail he deserves at least for being stupid and greedy. Whatever you might think of the US this behavior is out of line.

I do not believe that Bofors need agents like this one and I believe that the US owns big parts of Bofors anyway.

Mardirossian sounds like he's an Armnenian. It is also not possible for a true Swede to provide aid to anthing marxist, although I suppose a certain O. Palme was the exception. I'm glad this faux-swede is in court in the US. For this type of crime in the US, he will not see the light of day until he's 92. Sayonara honey!
14:54 May 10, 2011 by goober
He's not an arms dealer or a terrorist or anything........he is a failed restaurant owner. I guess you could call this a career move. He was a small time goon and I am sure will most likely spend the rest of his life in jail.

Mind you, on the bright side, we tax payers will not have to foot the cost.

heh the Americans are very welcome to him. One criminal less around Stureplan!!

I hear that they call him the Stallion because he's hung like a horsefly.

@ jostein

Most likely a "Swede". Nowadays we're calling everyone a Swede as soon as he/she has crossed our borders - a Swedish citizenship not needed; "nysvenskar" instead of "invandrare/flyktingar". It's incredibly ridiculous!

The guy gets provoked by DEA, shows interest, and this is enough evidence to put him in jail for life? Amazing! Cases like this beat Josef Stalin's justice anytime. USA slides toward police totalitarian society full speed.
