Nursing home hushed sex abuse claims

Despite repeat reports from employees that an elderly patient suffering from Alzheimer's was the victim of sexual abuse by another patient, the head of a nursing home in northern Sweden declined to inform the police, according to a report by Sveriges Television (SVT).

It took up to five days after the abuse came to light before a report was filed and relatives were informed, according to SVT's Uppdrag Granskning programme broadcast on Wednesday evening.

The man accused of perpetrating the abuse is in his eighties and faced a court in Luleå in northern Sweden on Wednesday charge with abuse.

The elderly man denied the crimes.

The court ruled that he undergo a so-called Section 7-examination before the trial concludes. Section 7 refers to a personal examination by psychiatrists.

After finally having been informed of the abuse, the spouse of the female victim asked that she move accommodation but was told that it was not necessary.

"No, she said a manager. He would not be able to do anything," her husband told Uppdrag Granskning.

According to SVT, the nursing home has neither informed her husband nor her family that the man accused of perpetrating the abuse is still resident in the same department as the woman.

The head of the nursing home explained that it was not possible to divulge the information:

"No, not as it is two customers who are staying with us and there is a privacy issue. But we must ensure that this does not occur."

The responsible nurse at the home is also in agreement that the home is not at liberty to tell.

"We can not violate the Official Secrets Act."

Wooooooooooow an 80year ol' Swedish man still feels the urge of doing that to a ''HOSTEL MATE'' and the victim is even reluctant to move to another apartment. It means someone is enjoying something in that facility ahahahah wonders shall never end in Sweden and amongst Swedish.

Sounds like a lot of people need to be fired from there jobs and jailed.

The English in this is terrible "The accused man, who is in her 80's" simple read through maybe?

how come no one has made any ignorant racist comments yet about how this perv must definitely not be a 'REAL swede' - he must be a muslim immigrant from somewhere? haha, only after reading thelocal for a good few months did i realize that the (white) people who migrate to sweden are about 20 times more racist than real swedes...i suppose it makes sense, they come to see only white people and get annoyed by any sense of multiculturalism - as opposed to 'real' swedes who more often than not embrace it. why make the world a worse place than it already is people?
16:05 May 12, 2011 by Swedesmith
@nyh2o I'm confused, this story isn't about racism...where are you coming up with that angle? I mean, do you go out of your way to come up with some reason to feel abused?
16:51 May 12, 2011 by nyh2o
many stories on the local, particularly those about rape or sexual abuse or some horrible deed like that, is not about racism but thelocal's readers take the time to draw it in and talk about how sweden is going to the dogs because of immigrants who arnt white. how mälmö was a heaven before it turned all multiracial on them etc etc. im not offended in this case swedesmith - but i was surprised that none of the usual readers have yet come up with 'oh i am sure this man must be from (insert name of muslim country with refugees in sweden) - he must be muslim - destroying this country i tell you, it used to be a white heaven.'. you've read the comments as well - im sure you know what i am talking about. its absolutely disgusting that people born in developed countries with opportunities to know and learn about so much in this world, turn out to be so very ignorant.

Well, as I am sure you know, there are good and bad people everywhere and from every race and culture.

He should be charged with "assault with a dead weapon."
22:55 May 15, 2011 by Da Goat
This is a tricky case !

maybe the sex was consensual and the old girl can't remember with Alzheimer's

or maybe the old guy wants to be charged with something so he can upgrade his accommodation to the Kings's Hotel

any how I say good luck to them both! if you are old you should be thankful for what you can get and waste nothing!

There was nothing in this report to justify if what happened is good or bad!

What is wrong with you? You make fun out of a serious crime. An elderly woman, struck with Alzheimers have been the victim of a sexual attack performed by an elderly man. And you make fun of it all?!? What if it had been your mother? Would you still crack jokes about Swedish men's abilities to get it up and how grateful your mother should be that someone still finds her attractive? You should be ashamed, but you're not intelligent enough for that!
