Johan Elmander headed to Turkey

Bolton Wanderers' Swedish striker Johan Elmander has signed a tentative deal with Galatasaray, the Turkish club announced on Friday without giving details of the agreement.

The 29-year-old, who is the Swedish national team's striker, scored 10 goals this season with Bolton Wanderers where he has played since 2008 after two seasons with French first division side Toulouse.
Elmander's contract with the Bolton Wanderers runs out after this season. Newspaper Dagens Nyheterna reports that clubs in several countries had been interested in getting him on board via an open transfer.
Galatasaray is currently struggling ninth in the championship, lagging 36
points behind leaders and arch-rivals Fenerbahce.
Galatasaray will be Elmanders seventh professional club after Feyenoord, Breda, Bröndby, Toulouse, and Bolton.
Aftonbladet is also reporting that Galatasaray is interested in acquiring Swedish midfielder Kim Källström from French club Lyon.

like Anelka?
Second and third tier teams in the UK, Spain etc are out of money. Many of them can't match with what Turkish giants (Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Galatasaray) offer nowadays.
Elmander is not a star player or anything and Galatasaray will be his last chance to play in an European cup competition. Not a bad move at all. He will just need to play good football or he will be sitting in the bench like how Linderoth used to and end his career miserably.
And I would have agreed with you about Turkish league being a dead end for good players until a decade ago. Anelka is not an exception. There are many other players like him, like John Carew and Franck Ribery. All these players struggled in European clubs, played in Turkish league in a season or two (and played well), then transferred to a top tier European club.
I guess many of those top players have the perception of Turkish League being a lower quality competition. They realize that its not after they transfer to Turkey. Media is tough, chairmans, boards and supporters are extremely impatient. Its not uncommon to see a team changing its manager four times in a season. If they survive that environment, then they do well in their next team. But many of them fail since they come unprepared.
Elmander's been at a number of clubs in his career, but I reckon that, certainly English clubs, have been very happy with their Swedish players' commitment and loyalty. Ljungberg stayed at Arsenal for many seasons, Mellberg, the same, for Aston Villa.
Is it money talking? Or are Swedish players generally more settled sorts of guys?
