Police out in force for mosque protests

Police say they are ready for Saturday's planned demonstrations for and against the nearly completed mosque on Hisingen in Gothenburg, reports news agency TT.

Many are worried about violence and police are planning on implementing a low tolerance level. “The resources are in relation to the threat,” Martin Fredman, Police task force commander, told TT.
Three different groups have been given permission to gather and march towards the mosque. Two of the groups, Gothenburg against racism and the Left party, support the construction of the mosque. The third group, organized by the National Democrats and a group called the Swedish Defense League, are against its construction.
The greatest risk of fighting is expected near Ramberget on Hisingen where the mosque will soon be inaugurated. Police believe 2,000 to 3,000 demonstrators will attend the pro and anti protests and the area is under close watch.
An older demonstrator told TT that she was scared of Islam. The demonstrator later joined a group of protestors gathering near a gas station a half kilometer away from the mosque at around 10 am Saturday morning.
There are many cordons and fences around the building that police have been erecting during the past few days.
“Full scale fences are set up and there will be a no man's land erected between the various groups,” Fredman told TT. The demonstrators will be separated so that they can not throw items at each other. Fredman says the protestors will also be kept farther than throwing distance away from the mosque.
Special police personnel from Stockholm and Skåne will participate in the containment efforts. These police officers are specially trained police who have undergone training in how to confront challenges and confrontations with demonstrators.
The mosque is built by the Swedish Muslim Foundation.
In addtion to the protests, large parts of Gothenburg will also be clogged up with more than 60,000 runners in a race called Göteborgsvarvet, the Gothenburg round.

Second, anyone opposing this mosque now that it has been built and all that is left is for the crescent moon to be added to the spire is a real fool. If you wanted to protest, how about protesting prior to the sale of land or the beginning of the construction. It does absolutely nothing, except make you look foolish, to protest after it's built.
Third, ALL religions want to control people. One wonders what the pagans must've thought when the invading christians came and imposed their ideology and strange belief systems on the native inhabitants. But if you call yourself a so-called citizen of the free world, then you cannot oppose the building of a mosque and then welcome the building of a christian church. Fundamentalism in any religion is bad but don't try to claim that Islam is the only religion which has a problem. You get fundamentalist Christians killing and persecuting gay people in Africa and murdering doctors in the USA and you get fundamentalist Jews murdering and persecuting the Palestinians and stealing their land. Do you have any evidence that this specific mosque is likely to spread fundamentalist or extremist beliefs? I know that the Saudis have certainly played a negative role in terms of financing and propagating more extreme forms of Islam and I would like to see the Swedish state challenging this by providing help and assistance to more moderate and reform-minded Islamic organisations within Sweden. It is clear though that those protesting against the mosque are not interested in engaging constructively with the Muslim community, rather they want rid of all Muslims and are using this as yet another excuse to spout their hateful, racist garbage. If I lived in Göteborg I would likely be joining the anti-racist counter-demonstration.
However, the problem to be concerned about comes from a sick mind regardless of location or religion! So, relax and take your time guys...
Maybe you can answer my question that Iraniboy ignores. What muslim country is tolerant and accepting (as equals) of other religions and atheists? Your liberal acceptance of an exclusionary religion is short sighted and flies in the face of all examples of Muslim countries in the world today. Why would the West ignore a threat such as Islam? You can say it is a peaceful religion that just wants to worship their god and the extremists are the ones who are the danger. If that is so, why are there no tolerant Muslim countries?

Islamic is not one big monolithic religion and to say it's practised in exactly the same way in Tunisia or Senegal as it is in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan is absurd. You want to know what majority Muslim countries are tolerant of other religions, well there are quite a few: in Lebanon and Syria for example Christian minorities enjoy a strong and, in some cases, almost privileged position. In many majority Muslim countries in Africa various religions exist peacefully side by side and even in Iran recognised religions other than Islam enjoy some protection under the law. So I'm afraid your claims are quite inaccurate and based on unfair and bigoted generalisations.

You are wrong. Syria and Lebanon have lip service freedom for other religions but violence against Christians, to use your example, are not equal to Sunni Islam amongst the masses. Syria for example, has religious freedom for minority religions but attacks on Christians and churches are a higher percentage than attacks on muslims and mosques. It doesn't matter what the law is in Syria. The reality on the ground is what matters. Additionally, the Christian churches in Syria fear the democracy wave in the middle East, because the haters on the ground, will be in representative government. I may not be Swedish, but I live in Sweden, so I guess I am dangerous? My "xenophobic" attitude was built by watching muslims in my SFI, Gruv and Samhållskunskap classes upon my arrival. Any Swede that wants to know what they are importing into Sweden should sit in on a few of those classes to see the separatist mentality. All one has to do is mention Lars Vilks, and the true colors of the new Swedes in question will blossom to the surface.
Anyway, check out this article from the Local, circa 2006. Look what the Swedish Muslim Foundation chairman wrote in an open letter to Sweden's political parties. This is the same Swedish Muslim Foundation that is behind this mosque. The mentality of separate, special and superior is something to be feared in Sweden. But since this was 2006, I am sure alot has changed. No more extremists within the Swedish Muslim Foundation, right?

Now you are expressing a view that can be discussed. What your friends were writing in previous posts were not 'view' rather than pure slander and hate.
Your observations in SFI ad other classes in not unique. First of all, all of us have seen that. So have all Swedes. They see the same thing as you see but they conclude differently. This is the difference. The input is the same. We all see some immigrants who may misbehave but we know that we don't know their religion, we don't know their background, we don't know if they have even learnt during their life if what they do is actually wrong! We don't know if they have been given any possibility to learn to behave etc. This is what most Swedes think when they see the same thing as you see. I have also had many observations in the streets of Europe and the US about white drunk people who were ruining everything on their way. I have seen many non-Islamic organisations which spread their hate about other groups but it hardly change my mind about non-Muslims because I avoid this gross generalization and I'd rather to understand those specific circumstances instead.

The problem I have is that the muslims that I have been exposed to at school on the surface would identify themselves as moderate muslims. On the surface, they seem to integrate. They dress liberally, slutty. They don't pray five times a day. However, when you bring up Lars Vilks, the oddest thing happens. They get extremely agitated. They demand respect for Mohammed. They demand justice against Vilks. When asked, they don't demand death for Vilks, but do you honestly think that if an extremist Muslim killed Vilks, they would be upset about it? I sincerely doubt it. "Moderate" muslims are the problem, because they don't condemn violence and in fact tacitly approve of it, by their silence. As for my hypocrisy, since I identify with the Sweden Democrats and their Swedish feelings, I live quite comfortably within the borders of my ideals.

Anyways, there are 2 things that everyone is failing to understand.

Second, don't believe me? Well, the British television show, Dispatches recently went undercover into London's largest and most popular mosque. Can you guess what was being taught in there? Here's a teaser. The documentary opens with film of the teacher saying, "The one who changes his religion..what are we going to do? We kill him. Kill." You tube search "Dispatches Undercover Mosque The Return."
That is what will happen in the Ramberget mosque as well. Sweden will be an Islamic state within 30 years if things don't change.
