New asylum policies pave way for boost in forced deportations

Forced deportations of rejected asylum seekers are expected to increase by 30 percent compared to last year due in part to Sweden's new asylum policies.

Earlier this year, the centre-right Alliance government and the Green Party reached an agreement to overhaul Sweden's immigration and asylum policies.

One of the key elements of the agreement was a promise to ensure that asylum seekers who had their applications rejected would leave the country quickly.

In an effort to come up with new ways to carry out deportation orders more quickly, police in Skåne have implemented a special surveillance team to track down rejected asylum seekers, the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper reports.

The squads—sometimes acting on tips from members of the public—carry out inspections at workplaces and detain those who lack residence permits.

"Those who lack residence permits often work for very low wages. I can imagine that customers should realise that something isn't right if it costs only 50 kronor ($8) to have your tires changed," Petra Stenkula, head of the Skåne border police, told DN.

The more active method has shown results. Between January and March, authorities in Skåne carried out 115 deportations compared to 81 during the same period in 2010.

The latest forecasts project that 3,200 people will be forcibly deported from Sweden this year, a roughly 30 percent increase from the 2,500 people who were forcibly deported last year, DN reports.

A continued bottleneck in Sweden's efforts to deport rejected asylum seekers is a lack of holding facilities.

Currently, there are only 230 spots in the entire country which often results in frustration on the part of police who locate people who are avoiding deportation orders only to discover there is no place to put them.

"When politicians now say that returning is important it feels strange that there aren't more places," said Filippa Nordfelt, a section head with the Migration Board (Migrationsverket), to DN.

"We probably need 500 spots. But that's expensive. At the same time, our goal is to reduce the time people spend in detention."

A consultant report which helped motivate the Skåne police to look at new methods for dealing with the issue, also proposed that more people who have been handed deportation orders should be kept under observation rather than placed in detention.

Hitler politics. All people are born equal and they should be able to live and work where they want but fascist politicians created inequality between us.

Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah!

It's the beginning of an end of an era, and it's nice to see them go back faster.

And, the even better part, is they get a thrashing if they resist getting the boot.

I'd say sorry to see these fake asylum seekers of a religion of peace leave, but that would be a lie : )

Have a nice plane ride back to the desert!

i think is only show of, people is still coming and human trafficker is still living in Sweden and even working for migrationsverket, if some one give border police tip of than there answer is thy do not have time to catch illegal person and excuse is that our government do not worry about the these illegal persons in Sweden , i think they play double game here. it is volition of legal persons who live here in Sweden with the permission of migrationsverket why they should go through all the process to get the resident permit to stay in Sweden, why some people working in border police do not care about illegal person holding someone apartment?

why there is no plenty or fine if someone hide or bring illegal person in Sweden?

with getting away with this crime they bring the peoples from the other countries and take the money from them to bring them here in Sweden. Sweden policies and laws not tough or authorities do not force the laws about illegal migration and human traffickers doing there busines under the nose of migrationsverket and border police

Still think that persons awaiting deportation should be put in detention otherwise they will just disappear. I also think that more serious checking of everybody's papers should be done now they barely glance at them when I come from the States or UK.

This has to be considered an absolute necessity. After the immigration destruction caused by social dems and its lefty ilk, it can not come soon enough. And if building more prisons is what it takes, so be it! For twiceshy above to invoke the 'reduction-ad-hitlerum' invective is indicative of something other than fact and reality or the best interests fo Sweden. Her comment is indicative of an open borders philosophy for the explicit purpose of saturating Sweden with islamists, Hizb al-Ithwan Al-Musmin, so as to destroy from within and create a nodic kaliphate. Sweden must not allow this to happen. Increase deportations now! Build more detention facilities now~! And the money to build these detention facilities should be taken from the social welfare budget. No need to increase taxes.

@TheOriginalBlackMan I think that the true asylum seekers are allowed to stay for the most part, if they have a legitimate reason for coming such as fleeing a war-torn region. The problem mostly lie with the false ones who try to come under the ptretense of asylum seekers but are criminals instead. What worries me are the victims of modern-day slave market. These people fall prey to organizaed crime. There should be some way to try to identify these people so they don't suffer the consequences for the crimes of others.
