Swedish police called to fight beaver invasion

Police were called to help a homeowner deal with a wayward Swedish beaver that had found its way into the caller's garage.

Whether the beaver took a wrong turn somewhere remains a mystery, but the curious animal's journey nevertheless ended in a garage on Grindstugevägen in Nässjö in central Sweden.

The homeowner stumbled upon the beaver on Monday morning, according to a statement from Jönköping County police.

Police have since contacted local hunters and animal consultants who plan to "return the beaver to freedom" later on Monday.

The incident is the second time in recent weeks that Swedish police have been called to help lost beavers.

Back in April, police near Köping in central Sweden were called after an ambulance reported seeing a beaver lumbering down Glasgatan, the local Arboga Tidning newspaper reported.

While the beaver wasn't in need of any medical assistance or suspected of any crime, police were called to help escort the beaver back to a nearby stream.

Rather than put the animal in the back of the patrol car, however, police decided instead to simply point the beaver in the right direction.

How come, why they have to call the police, quite wonder that they don't know how to trap it.

When people are not sure what to do and suspect it could be dagerous or might hurt the animal while trying to help, they usually call the police. I think it's a sensible thing to do.

I still have my Beaver Patrol merit badge from cub scouts.

That homeowner is such a wuss. We are the kings of this jungle yet I am still amazed how many people will panic to the extent of hyperventilating by the sight of a rat or beaver. Yet, they will go out on a Saturday night and bring a perfect stranger into their beds.

This happened in my wife's home town.

What we can not work out, how the hell a beaver who lives on/near water got that far. There are 2 lakes ( more like large ponds( in the town, neither of which has the trees near the water that beavers need. speaking to my brother-in-law there, he says that the nearest beaver dam is about 15km away. local speculation is that it was put there as a prank.

@Rishonim you would be very wise to give a beaver, especially a cornered one, a wide berth. Those teeth that can shred a tree in minutes could take your hand off.

A cornered beaver is a dangerous beast.

This is nothing, I find Alligators in my Pound in front of my house in the US. Even if you shot it, the bodies are so big you need help to drag it away.

I heard the best way to get rid of unwanted animals is to leave a blood soaked mattress for them to chew on...

Well, some might consider wayward Swedish beaver a problem...others might see it as a Dear Penthouse letter. I'm more than happy to accommodate any swedish beaver that needs tending to btw.
