Swedish supermodel in 'age-bullying' lawsuit

A Swedish model is suing beauty giant Estée Lauder for 12 million kronor ($1.93 million), after the cosmetics company portrayed her as old and wrinkly in an advert, according to Swedish daily Aftonbladet.

Forsling has been working in the modeling business for over a decade.

During her lucrative career she has featured on the industry's major magazine covers, as well as on the runway of the most prestigious fashion houses.

Currently, however, Forsling is in the midst of a heated feud with former employers Estée Lauder, a battle which now looks to be headed all the way to the courthouse.

The cosmetics company used a photo of the model without makeup in an advert for Plantscription, an anti-aging cream aimed at 45 to 60 year-old women, without informing her about it.

Forsling, 35 years old, was not amused and claims the unflattering photograph was taken prior to the start of a completely different photo shoot with Estée Lauder, before she had her make up applied or been styled.

She claims that she was not informed the photo would be used for anything, and has no connection to the anti-aging cream.

"Forsling has never used Plantscription. She did not participate in Defendants' study - indeed, she would not have been eligible to participate because she is significantly younger than 45," the lawsuit stated.

According to Aftonbladet, she is now suing the company for 12 million kronor ($1.93 million) for what the newspaper describes as "age bullying".

I don't think Estée Lauder is that far off. I chanced up on Caroline not so long a go and she looked a bit wilted. Many Scandinavian women tend to wrinkle like an old schmatta after the age of 35. Too much light in the summer and no light at all in the winter couple with the lack of smile can turn the most radian 25 year old beauty in a 45 year old Hilda in no time.

Stupid clothes horse! It is lucky she didn't have to use her brain to make a living.

Didn't she realise she was being paid to fulfil an art director's fantasy in order to advertise a product? Or did she think the aim of the shoot was to make her look good?

I bet she didn't complain when her wrinkles have been retouched in the past.

Are you always so stupid or is today a special occasion?

While the irony of vanity is always a chuckle, Forsling has two valid points (provided her contract reads as the Local seems to indicate):

1. They used her image for a purpose other than she had agreed to in a marketing campaign. Breach of contract.

2. Her image is her value. It has an expiry date for use as a model. If her image is degraded/prematurely expired it will cost her a fortune. No one will hire her (except several commenters on the Local and I don't know if she will take beer caps as payment for modelling....). If her career has been damaged then she has a right to damages accordingly.

Ibet her passport photo looks the same as the unedited and unairbrushed image she has a problem with and that is a legal document of her true likeness Show that to the judge and see what the answer is

Money making scheme to finance her meth habit no doubt!

I've heard that it's common practice for the companies to own the images they take of the model and that can use them in any way they wish. Maybe she has something in her contract that says she has to approve the photos they use, but I doubt it.

I wouldn't be too happy with them either though, being shown as old in the modeling business can kill a career.

"I wouldn't be too happy with them either though, being shown as old in the modeling business can kill a career."

Uhh...being shown to be over 24 can kill a career. It's a miracle she's still getting any work at all.

I have to agree with an earlier comment. So many beautiful swedish women here...when they're young. Maybe it's too much time at the solarium, but swedish women do not tend to age well. It's a shame too. That brown leathery look isn't so attractive anyway, but then to have it suck away decades worth of possibly good skin years is just a waste.

i think why Swedish women age fast is that they start using makeup at a very early age and on top of that they smoke cigarette.

Glad someone knew her first name. The Local didn't deem it necessary to inform us.

I think Swedish women are very beautiful full stop. Other nationalities dont have to worry about getting old fat and ugly as they are usually born that way from the start. This lady is beautiful 25,35,45, 55 doesent matter if she looks this good now. I'll take beautiful up to 45 and settle for not so beautiful after that rather than living with plain Jane with her wrinkle free skin all her life.
