Olofsson faces new 'step down' calls

Maud Olofsson has been leader of the Centre Party (Centerpartiet) for a decade. According to the Centre Party's local division in Kristianstad, in southern Sweden, it's high time to step down.
The Centre Party needs a leader capable of rejuvenating the party, group leader Sven Nilsson told Norra Skåne.
"We need someone else who can take on this responsibility," he says.
Maud Olofsson took over after previous Centre Party leader Lennart Daléus just over ten years ago. Since her succession the party has enjoyed high results. In the 2006 election the Centre Party became the third largest in Sweden, and formed a government with the three other conservative parties.
Support has dwindled since then however, and following the latest election, the Centre Party is only the fifth largest party.
This isn't the first time voices are heard demanding Olofsson's resignation. MP Fredrik Federley and the Centre Party's youth organisation are among those who have suggested it earlier.
However, this is the first time such a demand is made from a united municipality department.
"We may be the first, but we know that many others are watching us, and agree with this," says Sven Nilsson.

Some good and valid points, however these centre party people are weak and are open to some form of right wing corruption, either by position or financial gain just as the lib dems in the UK. These people such as olofsson, are parasites ridding on the backs of others at a country's expense.
You know olofsson, was heard saying on TV when she was given a place in government, "Now I can be RICH"!
Absolutely, the endless pursuit of power and money would drive anyone to corruption and to a total betrayal of their principles. When politics is no longer about ideology or a desire to build a better society (as is unfortunately the case for most politicians in Sweden today) the only thing that matters is ingratiating themselves with the rich and powerful at the expense of the interests of both their voters and of the country as a whole.
It wasn't always like that though. Back in the 70s the Centre Party actually had some principles with its leader Thorbjörn Fälldin pulling out of government over the nuclear power issue. There's a really good article (in Swedish) about how the party has changed in recent years, moving from a kind of rural and environmentally-conscious radicalism to a full embracing of neoliberal capitalism and the urban bourgeoisie. As the article points out they've got plenty of money now but have lost most of their supporters. There's clearly no point for them existing if they're just going to be an exact copy of Reinfeldt and his right-wing Moderate Party.
