Örebro rapist sentenced to 12 years in prison

A 24-year-old man considered to be Sweden's worst serial rapist was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday for attacking 13 women in the central Swedish town of Örebro.

In April, Niklas Eliasson, known in the press as the “Örebro rapist”, was found guilty by the Örebro District Court of 14 of the 18 assaults on women for which he had been charged.

After going through a psychiatric examination he had been found not to suffer from any serious psychiatric disorder and could therefore be sent to prison according to Swedish sentencing guidelines.

In addition to the prison sentence, Eliasson was ordered to pay 732,000 kronor ($115,000) to the victims, as well as 50,000 kronor to the Swedish crime victims' fund (Brottsoffermyndigheten).

The arrest of 24-year-old Eliasson last autumn was a relief for many Örebro residents who had lived in fear as police continued their search for the man behind a series of brutal rapes, which had been carried out over a period of several years.

The charges against the Eliasson included eight cases of attempted rape or aggravated rape, three charges of aggravated rape, two cases of assault, two cases of sexual molestation, one charge of robbery and one relating to weapons offences.

All of the offences were committed in Örebro in eastern Sweden between 2005-2010. Eliasson admitted to all the crimes, but has found it hard to explain why he committed them.

During interviews with investigators, Eliasson said he planned on killing several people before taking his own life.

He also told police that he started "stalking" people when he was only 13-years-old, explaining that his behaviour was a way to pass the time and that it began after his parents got divorced.

Eliasson also said that he had trouble fitting in school and, unable to find friends, he instead spent most of his free time on his computer and exploring cyberspace.

Surfing the internet for porn became one of his biggest hobbies, he told investigators.

Jesus, 12 years?? Is that it?? For a man to commit all those rapes AND admit that he was planning to murder?? Unbelievable!!
12:59 June 15, 2011 by Stickeroo
What a great message it sends...go ahead, rape as you please, you'll get less than a year per case. Just sick...I'm not gonna say they should have given him life in prison, BUT they should at least remove his man parts! Actually, great choice if you ask me....either you do life in prison, or have your junk cut off. Too bad there are no lobbyists in Sweden...or we could present a bill!

He does not look like an immigrant to me, watch how the usual blame it on immigrant brigade avoid the thread like the plague, just goes to show, no race has a monopoly on crime!!!
13:58 June 15, 2011 by Syftfel
Djmarko is of course correct here. No race, religion or ethnicity has a monoply on crime. But to quote Orwell, "Some Are More Equal Than Others".

Wow, not even a year for each victim. Amazing.
14:48 June 15, 2011 by KungsholmenGuy
This fine system with trivial fines such as 200,000 SEK for murder (or whatever the number is) can work in more ways than one. Perhaps the community where the victims are from should consider collecting donations and then, as a group, dispose of this individual once and for all.

Its good to know if anyone wants to go batshit crazy and start murdering and raping, Sweden is the best place to do it! *sarcasm on*

kungsholmenGuy, fines for murder? Not really.....
18:24 June 15, 2011 by burlison
Awful. 12 years? And the guy probably has better benefits in prison than your average working person in another country. Even if you added a few zeros onto the end of what he has to pay to the victims, it wouldn't be enough. And this guy will probably never pay one crown of the money.

Hey, I've got an idea. Exile.

12 years for 14 victims....he got a couple of freebies.
21:39 June 15, 2011 by conboy
Why are all of the serial murderers and rapists in Sweden, Swedish men between the ages of eighteen and seventy? Is it not time to carry out an investigation?
21:59 June 15, 2011 by ironman294
12 years? An Outrage! Why should his life suffer so much! Sweden is mean and evil. Making him serve 12 years will not erase the rapes, so why make him suffer. This is a travesty of justice, the ppor guy, i hope he gets his sentence reduced. Considering Sweden, they will probably pay him to work at a women's center for recovering rape victims.
22:16 June 15, 2011 by technoviking
He'll be 36 when he gets out. Still in his prime raping years.

An of course he will be fully rehabilitated after some time in the comfy Swedish prison.

Good work once again Swedish justice system.

this is plan crazy. death is what he want.

As for avoiding this tread because he is swedish and not muslim is also crazy. if anyone does rape it should be a swede since it is his country. right? look it is very basic and works this way in every country. the crime stats should equal the percentage of that race. hence sweden is say 90% white then ALL the crimes should be around this number. rape 90% white, murder 90% white, lighting cars on fire 90% white. do you get it? it is when a certin group is only like 5% but take up 50% of the crime is when it is wrong.

here is a great link about norway and some of sweden rapes. there is a youtube clip also with english subtitles when the oslo cheif of police talks about 100% of all rapes were done by non westeners.

Who is going to watch this guy when he gets out before the age of 36????
22:57 June 15, 2011 by Ivan Juric
Wow! If Assange is found guilty and sentenced on a comparison scale to this guy it will mean he will serve five minutes in prison.
00:15 June 16, 2011 by GLO
Just wait till he gets out at 36 and he is pissed off!!!! Sweden justice is a joke...
03:13 June 16, 2011 by cutthecrap
The rapist is sick, and the Swedish justice system is even sicker. These degenerate lib sentences are an invitation to rape and murder at will. With no tangible punishment or deterrent in place, Swedish women are in greater danger of abuse than a lot of so called third world countries.
03:25 June 16, 2011 by cashman57
I can only hope that rapists in prison in Sweden are treated with the same respect as in an American prison. They are only slightly above child molesters and are raped often.

The number of years seems low but perhaps the quality of those years will make up for it.

Maybe I have lived in the South too long, but reading about Vermin like this makes me think a mob, a tree and a rope would probably be the best sentence.
