Three people in Sweden were charged with credit card fraud in Borås, in western Sweden, on Wednesday after using skimmed credit cards to buy everything from snacks to jewellery and clothes for a value up to 500,000 kronor ($77,000).

“In one clothes shop they made so many purchases that they were asked to pose for a photo as ‘VIP customers’ when they returned to buy some more. Which they also did, although reluctantly,” said prosecutor Håkan Johansson to news agency TT.

The three people, of which two were based full time in Borås and one in the UK, were using skimmed cards that belonged to people in Egypt, the US, Australia and other countries far from Sweden.

Skimming is the theft of credit card information in an otherwise legitimate transaction.

The thief steals the victim’s credit card number by photocopying receipts or using more advanced methods like swiping and storing hundreds of victims’ credit card numbers using a small electronic device called a “skimmer”.

The card details are then used in transactions somewhere else in the world, generally far away from where they were stolen.

With the card details the gang bought products for a value up to half a million kronor and tried for even more. There was also some contact with the criminal world as some of the products were sold for cash.

But according to Johansson, the perpetrators also used the hi-jacked card details to carry out everyday purchases such as filling up their cars with petrol and eating out in fast food outlets or Chinese restaurants.

“And the shop trolleys were always full; with five types of salmon, diapers and baby formula,” said Johansson to TT.

here we go again, noting going to happen to them, there are people here in Sweden doing same thing but the are free. walking on our streets and waiting for try again.the are living in Sweden with fake passport and id. and the authorities here in Sweden looks like very slow to response or do nothing at all. all over the world this is a big crime but in Sweden looks like it is nothing.and worst of all the people with fake passports they are working in restaurants. easy way to skim the credit cards. and the guy who bought and receive the goods and clothing from skim credit cards is living freely in Sweden.

"Three people in Sweden" is not the same as "three Swedes". If this story had bothered to tell the truth, and the whole story, it would have revealed the fact the the "three" were iranians. But Truth is something Swedish mainstream media has great difficulty with these days. Why is this so difficult for media to say? And why is it "insensitive" to say it? Media would rather hush facts and delete anything which does not neatly fold into the PC edicts. - Surely there must be some social dem or liberal out there who can help me put this in perspective. Where am I wrong? Yes. It's true! They are iranians!

Does it matter where they come from?

"The three people, of which two were based full time in Borås and one in the UK, were using skimmed cards that belonged to people in Egypt, the US, Australia and other countries far from Sweden"

It is just across border crime. They have been caught in Sweden because it is here that they chose to use the skimmed cards.

When are you going to realise that the 'truth' as you see it is only in your addled brain. and nobody is trying to hush up anything.

Maybe it doesn't matter where they came from. But my position is that media owe us the full story, then the readers can decide for themselves. To selectively exclude relevant facts is offensive in a democratic society, and rings of the old, media oppressed, socialist dictatorships east of Sweden.

You have no interest is facts all you want is start your usual racist rant.

Until the defendants have been tried in a court of law found guilty and sentenced, they have the right to anonymity. That is the law in most democratic societies. And as for readers deciding, you seem to want to be the judge jury and executioner. Sorry sunny Jim, but that is not going to happen.
