The number of Swedish “dollar” millionaires reached a staggering 60,900 last year, signifying an increase in Sweden by 26 percent, according to the annual World Wealth Report, carried out by companies Cap Gemini and Merrill Lynch.

The figure places Sweden in fifth position on the world list of countries with a growing community of dollar millionaires.

At the top of the list is Hong Kong, followed by Vietnam and Poland. In Sweden the growth is explained to be due to positive market developments, the increase in the country’s GNP, and an increase in public saving.

The number of dollar millionaires is at a record high worldwide, according to the report, which listed 10.9 million people globally boasting wealth worth more than one million US dollars.

The last record was from 2007 when the figure was 10.1 million.

According to the report, the US, Japan and Germany are still home to the highest number of wealthy people.

Although women and younger people are making great strides among the rich, 73 percent of the world’s dollar millionaires (83 percent in Europe) are still men.

The majority is between 46 and 65 years of age.

To be called a dollar millionaire a person has to own the equivalent of a million dollar in investable funds, excluding the value of property and collectibles.

Don't tell the Socialists. They will want to increase taxes, because if you have over 1.5million sek...you used to be liable for wealth tax. So having over 6 million sek will mean you are evil and must have got the money through greed, crime, tax avoidance etc.

Then afterwards you find the same people who regard the rich as evil are themselves swimming in money and living the wealthy lifestyle they supposedly despise. I absolutley hate HYPOCRITES! They are the leeches of life. It's as if they see more rich people as competition and degrades their own status within Sweden.

A floating dollar and inflated property and stock prices puts many people over the mark. Nothing to get too excited about with the value of a dollar reduced to a fraction of what it should be. Many thanks to Pres. Obama and Sr. Ben Bernanke. Another slide in global markets today. Sometimes you need to ask yourself, "Who are you really working for?"...

Is n't this because the dollar is headed down the toilet owing to the credit crunch caused by the bizaare lending policies and slack regulation in the early 2000s??

But where do all these wealthy Swedes live? I bet it is not in Sweden. They may have property here but they have resident permits in somewhere like Monaco!! Who in their right minds is going to pay over 50% tax when you are earning a million Swedish a year?? It would be pointless!!

Dont get too excited, with the Fed churning out Dollars like its going out of style, the number of "dollar millionaires" is bound to go up. Over the past couple years the USD/SEK pair has declined (from highest peak) roughly 18%, so that obviously would account for several of the millionaires holding their wealth in SEK. The pair appreciated significantly in and after 2008 and is back at the 2008 level, but with the US's policies I dont see it reversing the trend any time soon.

I doubt they would have become millionaires if they were resident in Sweden. They tax the money out of them. They are smart enough not to live here. I might do the same when i am close to my millions

"Is n't this because the dollar is headed down the toilet owing to the credit crunch caused by the bizaare lending policies and slack regulation in the early 2000s?"

According to the U.S. Treasury, the federal debt increased by $3,646,116,554,704.36 between Jan. 20, 2009, when Obama was inaugurated, and April 13, 2011

So, US, Japan, Germany, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Poland are above Sweden....? But Sweden is 5th? Bad wording or bad math. :)

@swedeb, they mentioned first the ranking regarding growth rate in the number of millionaires where Sweden is 5th. The another ranking they mentioned is about the total number of millionaires where US, Japan and Germany are leading.

There is no doubt a fairly accurate formula that reveals how many lose jobs or work for reduced pay to accomodate these so-called millionaires, who are usually from a privileged class which does not neccessarily follow the same laws as the rest of us, or have to account to them.

As such, this state of affairs indicates not more upward mobility in general, but more privilege for the already privileged.

Break out the beams and the nails. We gotta crucify these rich people before they destroy society.
