Female caregiver suspected of selling sex to elderly patient

Published: 29 Jun 11 10:36 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/34632/20110629/

A female caregiver is suspected of having sold sex to an 85-year-old man, who was known to the authorities for having shown a large appetite for sex, according to a report in the local Borås Tidning (BT) daily.

The illicit sexual encounters are suspected to have continued over several years and involved large sums of money.

Borås municipality has subsequently opened an investigation in accordance with Lex Sarah, a law obliging staff in the care industry to report instances of mistreatment to social services.

The 85-year-old, who is a long-term client of the municipal home-help service, was known to the authorities for having shown a significant interest in sex. With this in mind, the municipality has deliberately avoided sending female caregivers alone to the man's home.

But it has come to light that the woman got to know the elderly man and that she is now suspected of having received several hundred thousand kronor (tens of thousands of US dollars), rumoured to be payment for sexual services rendered.

"If this is the case then it is very tragic occurrence for all those involved. And if it is shown to be mere rumour then that is also tragic," a representative for the local municipality told BT.

From July 1st the law governing Lex Sarah will be expanded from care for the elderly and disabled to cover all social services.

Furthermore municipalities will also be required to report all case of mistreatment to the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen), replacing the previous requirement for only the most serious cases to be reported.

Good to see investigations using the public media to to help morally judge a situation that may not even be correct since no case has been presented or charges made.

Seriously, what sort of Pyongyang state is it when propaganda is used to help the state enforce judgments that haven't shown any proof, just speculation.

The guy is 85 and probably doesn't have long to live. If he wants to get his rocks off, what's the harm. He's happy, she's happy....seeing no negative yet. On the plus side, she's more than likely equipped and trained to help him if he has any health concerns or emergencies during the 'service'.

It is a very close and superb caretaking technique that shouldn't be included in the caretaking servise course.
11:45 June 29, 2011 by johnny1939
Would not call this situation "mistreatment" he is lucky to get it up. This is nobody's biz except....maybe his children do not want daddykins to waste their inheritance. If they take this away from him he will probably die...maybe this is what they want. BRRRRR!

Questions:

(1) Was this not an agreement between consenting adults?

(2) Who was harmed?

(3) Isn't this interference with a legally binding contract between two consenting adults?

(4) Why is it a crime for an 85 y/o man to have sex?

(5) Given that this is an 85 y/o man, and that he has a large sexual appetitte for an 85 y/o man, isn't this still a misdemeanor?
12:23 June 29, 2011 by stenhuggaren
It is a crime in Sweden to buy sex.

It is considered mistreatment if a carer uses their position to exploit the weakness of a patient.

Consider this fact - the article mentions several hundred thousand kronor. If the carer charged the old man say 20,000 per occasion, would you consider this to be extortion/abuse of one's position?
13:11 June 29, 2011 by Lostaussie
Given this is Sweden why hasn't the guy been arrested and locked up for purchasing sex?
13:53 June 29, 2011 by Swedesmith
How old does a guy need to be to quallify for a caregiver?
13:55 June 29, 2011 by Stickeroo
Heeeeeellllllll no! When I'm 85 and on my death bed...I would consider it a god send to have a caregiver who will also ******* me, even if it costs 50K a round. What the heck r u gonna do with your money? You're dying! Might as well spend it on a "special" sponge bath! This should be a legal service offered to the elderly. Not punished...good on her to put a smile on an old man's face!

I call the action of the lady in question "holistic care". The guy has certainly enjoyed the encounter and will not be amused by the action of the authorities.
14:21 June 29, 2011 by Nemesis
The guy was enjoying his old age. What is the harm in that?

At that age if he gets a bit of enjoyment, good luck to him.
15:18 June 29, 2011 by soultraveler3
Let the old man enjoy the rest of his time on this earth.

They're not hurting anyone and both seem to be happy with their ongoing arrangement, so leave them alone.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a bigger push to legalize the sale of sex, given the potential it has to bring in big big tax money. Perhaps the real "crime" is that there was a business exchange which the State didn't regulate and make money on. How dare a woman trade sexual favours without giving her pimp a cut of the earnings?

00:03 June 30, 2011 by CarlBlack
stenhuggaren: It definitely is abuse of one's position, which is possible only due to Swedish laws. If there was not the stupid law against buying sex, he would just call an escort service and not rely on overpriced service of caretaker...
03:37 June 30, 2011 by antimultikulti
Selling sex is perfectly legal in Sweden. So, what's the point?

And why Lex Sarah is mentioned? The old chap surely received high-standard care. There's nothing tragic in this, someone seems to be just being envious.
06:29 June 30, 2011 by Marc the Texan
What bothers me is that the unnamed representative described this as tragic. How is this tragic? They're both consenting adults engaging in an arrangement that has a satisfying outcome both of them. They both got what they wanted and it sounds like there were many happy returns of the day. Again where is the tragedy? Why is it that sex paid for with drinks and text messages is OK, yet sex paid for with cash is a crime? Seriously, what is the dang problem? Do they think he paid too much?
09:19 June 30, 2011 by luke123
I thought selling sex was totally legal ?
13:45 June 30, 2011 by Hagrid
The man is 85 years old, can still get it up, and has a voracious apetite for sex. Good for him! And his caretaker gave him exactly what he needs. What is wrong or "tragic" with that? How else would he spend his money, on endless heaps of Jel-O? Might as well enjoy your last days as much as possible. I know I would probably do the same if I were in his position...

What is wrong in Sweden today?
21:35 June 30, 2011 by luke123
"The Femo nazis will not give up until all men are neutered at birth."

How did a crazy hate group like the radfems manage to get taken seriously in the first place in Sweden ? Did they blackmail politicians? Surely it can't be on the merits of their sex-phobic ideology.

Good for him, from one old fart to another.

I'm going to have to put aside as few bucks for when i'm in need for a caregiver.

Why do you think old white men go to the Far East? There are MILLIONS of horny old men who are, despite being ugly and unappealing to the opposite sex at home, are not so unattractive in the Far East waving a few dollars, where money is king and a day's salary could earn them quite a few rounds on a young 20 something.

I feel sorry for any future partners of this Swedish female caregiver though... imagine having to make screw someone who's just had a zombie pump them...

Lucky Bastard. What a terrific idea... why didn't think of doing that instead of waiting for akassa?
