An inebriated 29-year-old man attacked a group of teenagers playing football in Hässelby in western Stockholm on Monday night, leaving an 18-year-old dead from stab wounds.

The friends' kick-about was interrupted suddenly at around 9pm on Monday as the bleeding 18-year-old fled for his life from the man who was brandishing a knife. While he evaded further attack, the teenager later died of his injuries.

The tragedy occurred at 9pm on Monday evening in Hässelby gård in western Stockholm. Aside from the 18-year-old, two other teenagers sustained knife wounds in the attack.

There were several witnesses to the drama and several recognised the attacker and knew where he lived.

The man was arrested soon after in his apartment, on suspicion of murder. He had not been interviewed by Tuesday morning as he was inebriated at the time of his arrest, according to the police.

The background to the sudden attack is as yet unknown.

"It is probably something which has gone awry in connection with the alcohol or something similar," said Marie-Louise Nilsson at Stockholm police to the TT news agency.

The police have not connected the incident to any criminal operations. Neither the attacker nor the football-playing friends are previously known to the police.

what a tragedy. may the soul of the 18 year old rest in peace. as for the attacker, may he rot in jail. it's sad how onlookers in Sweden never come to the aid of persons under attack. this kind of crappy behavior does not occur in other parts of the world. when you see someone being attacked, please intervene and save a life.

Very tragic. It sounds like a psychotic from the erratic behaviour of the murderer. Possibly racist motivated together with drugs and psychological problems. At least thats what flashback is saying at the moment.

@eddie123

Several of these youngsters had stabwounds according to the article which might imply they tried to help their friend. And when you are suddenly attacked by a violent psychotic knifeman when you are just enjoying life with your friends, how well would anyone react?

@eddie123

may be you are right, but it could be a possibility that it happened so suddenly and in few seconds. For many people, it takes some time to actually realise what is happening. So we can generalize this comment without knowing the clear details.

Sad. Let's hope the 29-year-old is facing a long prison sentence

yup, take away or blame guns and what happens...... people run around with knives!! if this was a gun case this article would be flooded with irrational anti-gun people...... Im starting my own Anti-Knife campaign because this is just outrageous!!!

@kenny8076

Its already illegal to wear a knife in sweden unless you are a craftsman.

several people saw...and no one jumped him and stabbed him instead why ?!

Sweden is no longer the quiet and secure country, nowadays is better to have a loaded gun under the coat.

Sounds a very dangerous place to be these days. Such a shame, it used to be a lovely country to live with a very safe environment. Something seems to have gone terribly wrong.

'probably racist motivation'.

Exactly - there is a murder, it is assumed the guy must be a racist.

So common is the proof that Sweden is an irrational, hateful communist state.

Or shall I say it was 'probably an immigrant', but that wouldn't be fair would it? By your garbage liberal double-standards.

@jomamas

Just reporting the discussion on flashback :)

Seems the victim was a kurd and the perpetrator mongolian. Wether there was racism or ethnic scuffles behind this is not yet known, just that the perpetrator was intoxicated in some way. What is reported so far the victim was a nice young man and staying out of trouble and reported as a calm personality so it is very sad.

And you should learn to qoute properly if you want anyone to take you seriously. POSSIBLY and PROBABLY are two very different things.
